Re: Updating TexLive2016

2016-07-11 Thread Michael Berger

Hola Miguel,
I have TL2016 installed in /usr/local/texlive/2016/bin/x96_64-linux
and I could open TL GUI as user with 'tlmgr gui' but had no right to
update or edit it in any other way. One should think that sudo would
help, but it did not.
It was only than that I extended the permissions of 'tlpkg' in
/usr/local/texlive/2016/tlpkg

which solved my problem.
Meanwhile you might have seen my complete e-mail (sorry!) and IMHO it
shows proof that my action was necessary and correct.

Gracias y saludos!
Michael

Hi Michael:

You've tried to do it as root?. If the folder /usr does not have
permissions will leave not write anything. I have the 2016 TexLive
manager as root and have no problem.

What was the exact command you used to try updating? Did you get an
error?

Updating TexLive2016

2016-07-11 Thread Michael Berger

Hi Kornel, hallo Jürgen,
I have TL2016 installed and could call GUI in a console as user.
However, I could not edit, update etc. because I had no write permission
for /usr/local/texlive/2016/tlpkg.
I was advised to call tlmgr as administrator but didn't find out how to
do that (su, sudo, xsudo etc. did NOT work!).
So, I eventually changed the permissions to rwx and informed Kornel
about it. He found this weird and frankly, so did I.

https://www.tug.org/texlive/pkgupdat deals with updating packages in TeX
Live.
It says there that one needs "... a writable TL source tree..."with
emphasis on the word writable.

Is this not exactly what I did?

Thanks and cheers,
Michael
