Are you sure the manual mentions \includeonly (as opposed to \include)?

The wiki can be fixed by everyone, click the Edit button/link.

For the manual, you can write to the documentation list or file a bug report

\includeonly is currently not supported. If you are using a temp-dir
(the default), file names are mangled and \includeonly will fail.
(It *might* work if all the included files are in the same dir.)

In older versions, you could disable the temp-dir feature, maybe setting the
path to the empty string or so will still do this...

It works, if you have all the sub-documents in the same directory.

You can also try to disable the use temporary directory option (this
was in pre 1.6 maybe you get this by leaving the DocumentSettingsPaths:
Temp setting empty now.)

You could search in the temporary dir (/tmp/lyx_tmpdir*/ on my Debian
system) for the given filename. But this is likely to change with every
re-opening of LyX.

Otherwise you really need to process the whole document and then select
the appropriate pages in the viewer.

Last but not least: File an enhancement request to bugzilla or vote for
it if it is already there.

2008-10-16 Thread Guenter Milde
Dear LyX users,

I have a large document that is split into separate chapters, all in their
own directories (with lyx and eps and graphic source files).

The main.lyx file includes e.g.

Einleitung/einleitung.lyx
Thermisch/thermisch.lyx
MTF/mtf.lyx

Now I want to use \includeonly{} in the preamble, but none of e.g.

\includeonly{thermisch}

or

\includeonly{Thermisch/thermisch}

seems to work.

Is there some kind of filename mangling when the tex files are generated in
the temporary dir?
Is this reproducible?
Should I rather put all *lyx files in one common dir?

The reason is that LyX copies the files to the temp dir and mangles the file
names to something unique (this seems to be necessary for several reasons).
So the files that are processed by LyX have different names than those in
your \includeonly statement.

I don't see an easy solution besides implementing native includeonly support

\includeonly NOT WORKING in LyX 1.5.2

I am using LyX version 1.5.2 and I haven't been able to make the command
\includeonly{file1.lyx,file2.lyx,...} placed in the preamble work.

I use it to make LyX only to include some of the chapter files of a master
document with entries \include{*.lyx}.

Can anybody tell me if it SHOULD or SHOULD NOT work?
It works fine in LaTeX. It is a pitty not working with LyX. However in the help
documentation it is said it is one of the available capabilities of LyX.

It should work, I think. Export to LaTeX, or just View Source, and you
may be able to see what the problem is. It may be that the files aren't
being found, because LyX does everything from a temporary directory. If
so, trying including the full paths to the files.

How do I include the full path? Something like this: c:/path/dir/file.lyx?
Not working.

Yes, that was my idea, but if it's not working, then I don't know what
the problem is. Try exporting to LaTeX and looking at the source.

In my opinion, since includeonly is a LaTeX command it isn't processed
by LyX, so if you put LyX files, it can't work.
I noticed that when you include a LyX file, the \include LaTeX command
don't show the .lyx extension.
I suppose it use the converted LaTeX file ... so try to suppress the
extensions in your includeonly command.
