Converter settings in LyX should be automatically set up. It looks

reconfigure LyX (LyX Reconfigure), relaunch LyX, and it should work.

Try setting the 'Viewer' for pdflatex (if that's what you're using to
generate a pdf) under Tools-Preferences-File Formats and then PDF
(pdflatex) to 'pdfview'. That's what I have on my machine. Once you
change the Viewer be sure to select 'Modify' and then you can apply or
save the changes.

Set the cursor in front of the image and use the paragraph settings menu (Edit

That URLs can exceed the page margin is a know problem that will be fixed for the next major LyX
release. For now you can use a workaround that is described in the URL section of the
EmbeddedObjects manual.

For tables it's up to you to set their width so that they fit into the page margins. The
EmbeddedObjects manual explains you in the table chapter different ways to customize your tables.

Adding space to end of sentence adds spaces inside character styles

2008-03-07 Thread Steve Litt
Hi all,

I just had a situation with two character style insets inside a sentence. When
I add spaces or other characters at the end of the sentence, spaces or other
characters are added inside the insets. I'm using 1.5.3.

You can see this behavior with the attached spacebug.lyx. Place the cursor
after the final period in the file, and press the space bar multiple times.
If it works the same on your machine/lyx as mine, you'll see the insets grow.
Waving the mousepointer above the insets gets rid of the spaces, but it's
still distracting.

The attached example uses character styles not in the Book document class.
However, even with a (custom made) document class defining those character
styles, the behavior is the same.

If versions later than 1.5.3 display this behavior, the developers might
consider changing it, as it's very unexpected and somewhat disturbing.

Thanks

Re: lyxfun to goto line in source

2008-03-07 Thread Pavel Sanda
I wonder, whether there is a lyx function that can be used to place the
 cursor in the relevant line.

one possibility would be use paragraph-goto but it will be quite tricky
to get the right number of paragraph. not every indexing number here has its
own counter part in visible document etc...

(There is a function called server-goto-file-row, however, I did not find
out what exactly it is supposed to do or what arguments it expects.)

purpose of this function is to set the cursor based on the given TeX source row.
so other possibility would be to do your grep over generated tex file and pass
the result via this function.

No to my knowledge. (There might be a way of re-defining the internally used
command that sets the font size to change the font as well, but this will
have unwanted side-effects.)

OTOH, in most formulas you will need both, italic and roman indices, as
the usual convention (e.g. IUAPAP document U.I.P 20 "Symbols, units and
nomenclature in physics") is to use italic for indices that derive from
symbols and roman for indices that derive from names and abbreviations.

So, if the k in S_k is an abbreviation for "kool", say, it should be
upright, if it is a running index or stands for the wave vector, it
should be italic.

Seems like there is something in your longer files that interferes with the
\textregistered.

This is "natural", as the complete document combines all files, so the
interfering code is in there of course.

It looks like you use a math box to get the (R) in the upper index position,
right?

Maybe you use

  Document>Settings>Math: use AMS auto

and the AMS package has problems here?

Try

  Document>Settings>Math: use AMS always

for a consistent behaviour. (Well, this might in the first place be "no (R)
index in any file.)

Try Text in Math: (Ctrl-M for a math-box, ^ for upper index, Ctrl-M for
text-in math)

If all fails, provide a minimal example.

In Lyx 1.5, whenever I try to create a PDF, I get an error message saying "Windows cannot find 'PDFViewWin'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again."

It seems that your installation wasn't complete. It should work when you ininstall LyX completely
(you can leave MiKTeX) and reinstall it using the small version of the alternative installer:

Thanks

I believe this display bug has been fixed in 1.5.4.

Confirmed. I opened the spacebug.lyx put my cursor after the last
period in the document pressed the spacebar and it only allowed one
space and nothing moved.

LyX 1.5.4 on XP. I can check LyX 1.5.4 on Slackware when I get home.

Just for confirmation sake. I had the same behavior on Slackware with
LyX 1.5.4. It even gave a warning 'You cannot type two spaces this
way. Please read the Tutorial.'

one possibility would be use paragraph-goto but it will be quite tricky
to get the right number of paragraph. not every indexing number here has its
own counter part in visible document etc...

purpose of this function is to set the cursor based on the given TeX source row.
so other possibility would be to do your grep over generated tex file and pass
the result via this function.
