Re: copying text on an iPhone
Hi Glenn, Perhaps I'm not understanding your question. Assuming that the desired page is open in Safari on your IOS device, the procedure for placing an icon on the home screen is to double tap the utility button which is located on the bottom of the Safari window near the center. From the resulting dialog, one of the available buttons is labeled: add to home screen. Should you ever desire to copy the URL, you would have several options. From your email or text message, navigate to the link, and use the pass through gesture (double tap and hold). When you here the triple bonk noise, you can right flick to options such as copy. If the item is launched in Safari: 1. Navigate to the URL. 2. Double tap to edit. 3. Use the roter gesture to select edit. 4. Flick down to select all (I think select yields the identical result). 5. Select copy. . HTH. Re: Mac Switcher needs checkbook/financial software recommendation
Hi Gordon, Phil, and Others, The URL for Tables is: http://www.x-tables.eu/ This is the application VoiceOver users adopted for spreadsheet use before Numbers in the iWork suite of applications was made accessible, and there was user feedback to the developer about VO performance. Many do find this more intuitive to use in the way that cell positions are referenced. But the issue is not that Numbers is less accessible than Tables and can't be used so much as that you won't find the Numbers referencing scheme familiar to you if you're coming from Excel. Tables is fine if you don't use power user functions with pivot tables, etc. But I bet it hasn't been tested yet or updated for Mountain Lion. Just a reminder that this is something that may factor into your current choices. Phil and others, I also meant to add there is an online copy of the Help for Checkbook Pro that you can access and read at the developer's web page: http://www.splasm.com/support/CheckBook%20Pro%20Help/index.html This is probably more useful for people who want to learn more about the app without downloading the trial version. The back-to-school discount (20% off or $19.95) runs through September 16. You can purchase either through the Splasm web site or through the Mac App Store. The web site offers a Family Pack bundle (if you had multiple Macs with different user name accounts wanting to run the software), but otherwise you might find it more convenient to use the Mac App Store to purchase. CheckBook Pro is pretty good, but unfortunately there's no corresponding iOS app from Splasm. HTH. I don't know how to install Mac software, so I just VO spacebar'd on the desktop item and got a warning about opening it, and after proceeding, clicked on the checkbookPro.app entry and it opened. New iMac And Macbook Pro Coming
Hi folks! So with the release of OSX Mountain Lion I say Goodbye to my 2008 Macbook 13 inch though surprisingly OSX Mountain Lion seems quite at home on my 2007 iMac, also works well on my late 2009 Mac Mini. Anyway I just wouldn't be without my Macbook so I ordered a replacement Macbook Pro 13 inch and a replacement 21 and a half inch iMac thinking that my 2007 iMac model would be as useless as my old Macbook would be, expecting the 2 new machines early next week and I have to admit to feeling as I did when I was a child with the approach of Christmas smile. It is regretful than I couldn't purchase the I7 models and had to make do with the I5 but I'm sure they'll do me nicely, perhaps I'll upgrade my Mac Mini sometime next year to an I7, cross that bridge when I come to it smile. Anyway I'm just wondering if other list members could tell me what I can expect with my new machines, for example does the new iMac model's internal speakers sound any different from those of the 2007 iMac? Does the Macbook Pro sound any better or worse than the 2008 Macbook model? I'm looking forward to the use of the Trackpad on the new Macbook Pro, that's something I couldn't do with the older model thus I had to use a Magic Trackpad in its place. One tiny annoyance is the fact that my model of Macbook Pro doesn't have an audio input, just an audio output and I'm not even sure if its an optical digital output at that. Ah well, looks as though I may have to purchase a few more of those iMic sound devices from Grifen Technology or perhaps something else which will give me digital i/o. --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net You can find an archive of all messages postedto the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html or at the public Mail Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/. Re: copying text on an iPhone
Hi Jeff, The flaw in your directions is that if I double-tap a link, it opens safari to that page. The link is in a text, and I want to copy it, and paste it into a facebook app. I once got the edit option in the rotor list, but when I double-tapped it, it just went away. 5. Select copy. . HTH. The thing is, I cannot figure out how to copy the link after I select it. Thanks for any help. Dropbox install process not working
Hi Listers, I've followed the Dropbox tips carefully over the past discussions and used them successfully in the past. today I installed Mountain Lion on my Mini and dropbox is not sinking. it claims it does not have permission. I stopped the Dropbox process in Activity Monitor. I deleted the app completely from my mini and then ran the DMG of Dropbox from my desktop. Also later I repeated and ran it from my downloads. I tried both version 1.5 and 1.4. In all cases I got the dreaded Dropbox has no windows. I was never asked for my sign in criteria. I successfully followed this process and got Dropbox working on my Mac Book Pro. So I'm surprised the same process is not working on the mini. Tips would be greatly appreciated. eric Caron --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net You can find an archive of all messages postedto the Mac-Access forum at either the list's own dedicated web archive: http://mail.tft-bbs.co.uk/pipermail/mac-access/index.html or at the public Mail Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/. Mini and screen update
Listers, Well, it is definitely the case that a mini such as my September 2011 must have a monitor or the clever trick described earlier on this list, to work correctly. Here are some observations that happened once the display was hooked up. Voice Over came up talking at restart before I needed to press command F5 the finder worked correctly when Dropbox app was launched. When in iTunes I can now play music and also use Voice over to navigate iTunes. Before it was busy all the time when using iTunes with music playing. I'm sure there are more places that the mini will be working correctly with a monitor. This seems rather unfortunate for those of us that don't need a monitor. So though I've heard that some claim the mini is fine without a monitor at least I can say that this rather standard configuration 2.3 I 5 model must have a monitor or the equivalent device to trick it. Hi Glenn, At risk of being redundant, allow me to requote this passage from my initial post: Quote: From your email or text message, navigate to the link, and use the pass through gesture (double tap and hold). When you here the triple bonk noise, you can right flick to options such as copy. Unquote Please reread carefully and let me know if anything is unclear or is not working as expected at your end. Best regards.
