Re: magnifier?

2014-10-16 Thread David Griffith
Voiceover and Zoom work absolutely fine together but you may have to
change the convenient short cut keys to increase and decrease
magnification on the fly if you want this feature to work. From memory
Zoom uses by default some keys that Voiceover uses for hotspots. so you
will have to change the short cut keys to something else if you want to
increase or decrease magnification on the fly. If you always have
magnification set to the same level you will not have to worry about this.

2014-10-16 Thread Colin Matthews
Hi!
The conflict that is mentioned could be if you want to invert colours!
In keyboard shortcuts in Keyboard pref’s the default key stroke is the same as
describe item at hotspot 8 [VO+command+8] so if needed you can change that key
stroke to another of your choice [that of course does not conflict with another]
I just noticed under Keyboard pref’s under keyboard shortcuts, Accessibility
you can turn on the toggle to turn zoom on or off by checking the box and that
command is Option+command+8 when active!

Hello Ian,

When you set up your new MBA, did you enter your Apple ID? if so, as soon as
there is an update to these applications, they should be detected on your MBA
and then associated with your Apple ID. At least, I think that’s how it works!

Cheers,

Getting Yosemite

2014-10-16 Thread Matthew Chao
Hi, Folks. I want to upgrade to Yosemite, but not sure how. Will Software
Update do this, or do I go to the App Store and search for it? I tried to get
it through Software Update, but no success. I listened to the event today, and
it was mentioned that Yosemite would be released today. Thanks in advance.

Mac Mini 2012 Model

2014-10-16 Thread Dane Trethowan
I’m very fortunate indeed to now have one of these machines with the top specs,
3.10GHZ i7 Quad ore processor and 1TB Fusion drive etc.

The machine is faster than I could have ever imagined, its now the most
powerful machine in my possession.

I bought it so I could connect it directly to my Denon AVR2113 Surround-Sound
receiver.

The Mac Mini works well connected to the system though I did notice something
interesting, when you plug a device into the headphones jack of the Mac Mini
the HDMI mutes, that part is a little annoying as I had planned to output
Voiceover to a cheap set of computer speakers, oh well I’ll just have to think
of something else.

Re: Getting Yosemite

2014-10-16 Thread Mike Arrigo
Most likely you would get it from the app store. I plan on waiting
until at least the first major update before installing it, that's my
policy with any operating system, and it certainly was good advice when
it came to IOS 8. I may upgrade once IOS 8.1 is released assuming the
major issues are fixed.

Installing OS X Mavericks From Recovery Mode

2014-10-16 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

I'm sure you've seen my eMail regarding my new Mac Mini machine smile,
actually the machine isn't knew, I got it from a friend before the machine was
religated to paperweight status.

Unfortunately the previous owner of the machine didn't wipe it thus I could do
nothing myself with the machine until I got a password which I didn't get so
the only thing it seemed I could do was to perform a full OS X Mavericks
install from the Recovery mode.

Now here's where things got interesting, I was doubtful that I'd be able to
perform this type of install, I tried it once and couldn't sign into the iTunes
store however this time on the Mac Mini 2012 model I had no problems whatever
and the installation went without a hitch.

Even more surprising was the fact that the Machine remembered what the network
was it had been connected to before I performed the install which made things
incredibly easy.

So feeling byant I tried to perform a clean install of OS X Mavericks from my
iMac and it was doomed to failure from the stat, couldn't sign into the iTunes
store etc.

So why the difference, is it something to do with firmware in my 2011 iMac and
the 2012 Mac Mini machine?

Odd. I can get it to work all the time on my mac book air. I did this recently.
Just route your cursers and click. It should work. This is a known bug that has
been around for a while now. It was when I did the tutorial last year.

Take care.

Networking a Mac with a Windows network

2014-10-16 Thread Anna Byrne
My MacBook Pro sees our windows network just fine, even to
recognizing the folders that are shared. However, when I press enter
on the items, it says it can't find them. Documents is shared, and I
can access it from any of the lap tops. However, although the Mac
lists it as visible, it says it can't find it. Are there Mac
settings I need to tweak, or windows settings, or am I just barking
up the wrong treeview???

thanks,

Ann

Re: Installing OS X Mavericks From Recovery Mode

2014-10-16 Thread Dane Trethowan
Now this is interesting, I tried to do a clean reinstall of OSX Mavericks using
the recovery mode on my Macbook Pro 2012 model but can’t even access the
recovery boot option it seems, I start the computer holding down the option key
and wait for around 15 seconds then press the right arrow key and hit enter,
machine boots as it normally would and yes, I’ve tried hitting left arrow
instead of right, wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the
Macbook Pro had the FileVault enabled, its not enabled now but maybe I have to
wait a while before e\all the data is decrypted?

Status Of Jawbone Jambox

2014-10-16 Thread Dane Trethowan
Hi!

Its been a while since I owned one of these devices, at the time I rid myself
of the Jawbone Jambox I was less than impressed with it given that I’d found
better devices on the market.

The problem I had was the Jawbone Jambox was using an earlier standard of
Bluetooth which meant that conducting HD Voice Calls or FaceTime Calls with the
iPhone was out of the question if you wanted to enjoy the advantages in call
quality that both HD Voice and FaceTime offered.

So its been 3 years since I had one of these devices and I’ve just heard a
rumour that the Jawbone Jambox now uses a later version of Bluetooth so can
anyone on list confirm or deny this?

If the rumour is true then yes, I would consider buying another.

 Hi!

I'm sure you've seen my eMail regarding my new Mac Mini machine smile,
actually the machine isn't knew, I got it from a friend before the
machine was religated to paperweight status.

Unfortunately the previous owner of the machine didn't wipe it thus I
could do nothing myself with the machine until I got a password which I
didn't get so the only thing it seemed I could do was to perform a full
OS X Mavericks install from the Recovery mode.

Now here's where things got interesting, I was doubtful that I'd be able
to perform this type of install, I tried it once and couldn't sign into
the iTunes store however this time on the Mac Mini 2012 model I had no
problems whatever and the installation went without a hitch.

Even more surprising was the fact that the Machine remembered what the
network was it had been connected to before I performed the install
 which made things incredibly easy.

So feeling byant I tried to perform a clean install of OS X Mavericks
from my iMac and it was doomed to failure from the stat, couldn't sign
 into the iTunes store etc.

So why the difference, is it something to do with firmware in my 2011
iMac and the 2012 Mac Mini machine?
