I am finding this thread interesting. I was under the impression as a Mac newbee that people did not fill up the Finder with icons but went to the Doc or to the Documents folder. Now am I missing out on something? Maybe you are referring to the Documents folders as Finder folders, please enlighten me! Re: [Mac-access]: Sorting finder with folders on top on mac?
Hello Eleanor, The Finder is the application that manages the storage of files and folders whatever the application that created them. On a Mac, it is a bad idea to put lots of icons on the desktop as they all get loaded into memory when the computer is booted and can therefore slow down the machine. The Dock contains aliases to applications which are in fact in the Applications folder. It can also contain pointers to folders stored anywhere on the Mac. Re: [Mac-access]: Sorting finder with folders on top on mac?
It’s best to use the Dock for aliases. Personally, I don’t bother with them as it’s so easy to locate any files or folders I want by using the first letter or two of the name. I’m really pretty organised when it comes to storing files. Also, don’t forget that it’s easy to reorganise the Dock so that your items are in alphabetical order. Just use Cmd-Option-Right or Left Arrow and you’ll hear where you’re putting the item you’re moving. Re: [Mac-access]: Searching A Folder
I am planning a Podcast on using Spotlight to search for files in Finder but essentially option command space will bring up a Finder search. There are other options and customisations for different types of search you can then do but I will go through these on the Podcast. Alternatively there is a free utility called Easy Find which also provides an easy access to a Mac search facility. I scrolled down and read another post regarding how to listen to an audio message. The first thing is you need to go into settings-messages-and to the audio recording heading. Make sure Raise to Listen is checked. This is a toggle, so double-tap on it to turn it on. Now, this is what I have read. To listen to a audio message, raise the phone to your ear. When you want to record a response, raise the phone to your ear again. Like I said, I haven't had a chance to send an audio message yet. HTH. Re: [Mac-access]: Outlook Express E-mails on Mac
The rumours are that the complete rewrite of Office for the Mac will indeed provide and interface and content that is more accessible to Voiceover. This is apparently because the rewrite is being done in more standard Apple Coco programming language but I am no expert in this. There is allegedly some evidence of this in as, I say, One Note and the new version of Outlook but apparently we have to wait until next year for the substantive rewrite of Office in terms of applications like Word and Excel. Still it will be a welcome development if it comes along. A fully featured and accessible version of Office on the Mac may well tip some more people into switching from Jaws etc to Voiceover on the Mac. [Mac-access]: work around for the voice over selection bug in pages?
Hello to all. I have 1 last pages question. I believe the work around that Ann posted was to fit to window or something for the voice over selecting bug. I do have that set in zoom but it does not work. I tried to find rap to window in the arrange tools but that area is totally not accessible. Nothing is labeled, radio buttons that I don't know what they do are not selectable for lack of a better term, nothing seems to work, plus most of the section even if you select all is grayed out. I just as of an hour ago emailed apple about this and gave them a screen cast of what happens. Over all to me this new version is a mess to work with. and I'm seeing this in the apple forums as well. At least my end notes still work though according to my prof. Anyway if someone can please remind me of what the work around was/is for the voice over selection bug I'd love to hear it. Re: [Mac-access]: Accented letters on a Mac
Hi Anne - Thanks for sending this again. I’m not sure what I’m getting when I do an options a; I want an a grave, but VO says something else I can’t quite make out. Thanks again - Andy Hello Andy, You get accented letters by using the Option key with various letters. Option-e - accute accent; Option-i - Circumflex; Option-u - diresis also known as umlaut; Option-Accent sign - grave accent; Option-q - OE diphthong. Do you need any others? Cheers, Anne On 4 Nov 2014, at 21:16, Andy Collins a...@recreation.plus.com wrote: Hi all - Some time back Anne was kind enough to tell me how to create letters with accents. Re: [Mac-access]: Accented letters on a Mac
Yikes! thanks for this. Is there a pneumonic device for this, or is this something we have to memorize. Just curious is all. Be blessed. Re: [Mac-access]: work around for the voice over selection bug in pages?
Oh growl! Yeah i did email apple about this and they keep saying they will look in to it, but I'm guessing not enough of us are emailing apple regarding this bug. or even calling them on it. Take care and be blessed. If anyone else has a work around of any kind besides turning off voice over and guessing how many lines I select then I'd love to hear this. I'd love to get this 2 page block moved up so I can continue with the flow of this not so wonderful magnum opus. Take care On Nov 4, 2014, at 1:16 PM, Anne Robertson a...@anarchie.org.uk wrote: Hello Sarah, That workaround was for TextEdit, not Pages. --- Mac Access At Mac Access Dot Net --- To reply to this post, please address your message to mac-access@mac-access.net You can find an archive of all messages postedto the Mac-Access forum at the list's public Mail Archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/mac-access@mac-access.net/. Re: [Mac-access]: opening apps
Just letting you know you wrote in the subject line. Try to pay attentioon to your anouncements. You can set what's called gate keeper. I have mine set very securely so I often when opening any app hit vo shift m on the app in question for the first time and hit open. I will then get a dialogue that I gthen hit open for and it remembers that I will let it through the gate so to speak.
