Re: [Mac-access]: Nicknames in contacts

2015-02-09 Thread Colin Matthews
Hi!
Ok on the Mac when you’ve chose one of the Bob’s in contacts then select the
edit button and then go to the menu [control+f2 or VO+m]
Then press C to go to the card menu and arrow down to add field sub menu and
right arrow into there and you will find nickname or on the iPhone look for add
field after choosing edit and you can add a nickname field from there!

If I go to the task bar on my iPhone (double press of the home button) I see
a list of recently called phone contacts. this list includes just the first
name such as Bob. Unfortunately I phone two different people called bob
so I am not sure which Bob is which. Is it possible to add nicknames to my
contacts so that people with the same first name can be distinguished? Note
that I would not want the nickname to appear in any email I sent to that
 contact!

I had a look at contacts and could see no obvious way to do this but I
understand that Siri will let me say call mum where presumably 'mum' is a
 nick name.

 Many thanks.

Re: [Mac-access]: Merging files into a single file on the Mac

2015-02-09 Thread Travis Siegel
You can use just about any sound editing app for this. I know quicktime pro
works, because I've done this exact thing.
Simply highlight each file (command-a to select the whole file) switch to the
main window (or whatever one has the combined book you're working on) paste it
in, move to end of file, and repeat as necessary. After that, simply save as,
name the file whatever you like, and poof, instant combined book.
I'd imagine other sound editing apps would work similarly, though not having
tried those, I obviously can't comment on their usability/capabilities.

[Mac-access]: seeking Suggestions for recording sound from TV to my iMac

hey all,
i have a TV with a 3.5MM headphone jack witch i used to connect to the mike
port on my windows computer and record the sound.
on the mac i have run into some significant difficulties with this.
Obviously the Mac has no dedicated microphone jack witch can be overcome with
the iMike USB interface witch i have got. this has a mike jack so i thought i
would be fine.
The main problem that I am having is that on that and any other computer a lot
of USB recording devices including this one have an unpleasant buzzing sound. I
have found this problem over multiple systems and multiple USB devices. My
theory is that it is electrical interference between the computer and the USB
interface.
what i would like to know is this, is there a way to use the 3.5MM patching
cable connected to the headphone port on my television to somehow Connect to
the Mac without USB? because i'm not getting the best Sound with my current
configurations.
thanks for any help on this.

[Mac-access]: Nicknames in contacts

2015-02-09 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
i have an iPhone 5S running IOS 8.1.2 and an iMac running Mac OS 10.10.2.
Contacts are synced between the two.

If I go to the task bar on my iPhone (double press of the home button) I see a
list of recently called phone contacts. this list includes just the first name
such as Bob. Unfortunately I phone two different people called bob so I am
not sure which Bob is which. Is it possible to add nicknames to my contacts so
that people with the same first name can be distinguished? Note that I would
not want the nickname to appear in any email I sent to that contact!

I had a look at contacts and could see no obvious way to do this but I
understand that Siri will let me say call mum where presumably 'mum' is a
nick name.

Many thanks.

[Mac-access]: Strange thing regarding my mac hard drive and confused.

2015-02-09 Thread matthew dyer
Hi all.

Some time ago I had to reinstall the os on my 27 inch iMac which is now
running yosemity. My iMac has a 1 TB hard drive. How ever, I see that my
macintosh HD has a copasity of about 265 GB of space. Come to think of it I
remember it being larger than this before I reformated. I selected macintosh
HD to be the drive to be reached. I am wondering if something happened when
installing the os which at the time was mavericks I have since upgraded. Is
there a way I can resize the partition on the drive? I am low on space.

BTW. When looking at the main part of the drive not the macintosh HD, but the
main drive itself it show that it is infact 1 TB. Would someone be so kind as
to tell me why I only have 265 GB on the macintosh HD. Thanks.

Matthew

A preamp will boost a signle from an outside source. Yu need a way to record
the output of a sound card such as your iMic or what ever you hook the tv to. I
don't think a preamp is what you need or everytign will sound comptessed. They
have mic preamps but not sure if they have a usb sound card that will act as a
preamp. I'm quite behind on that technology.

to answer your question yes the game is totally accessible but I'll talk about

Try a small mixing board witha splitter. I have a board with tape in and

 hey all,
i have a TV with a 3.5MM headphone jack witch i used to connect to the
mike port on my windows computer and record the sound.
on the mac i have run into some significant difficulties with this.
Obviously the Mac has no dedicated microphone jack witch can be overcome
with the iMike USB interface witch i have got. this has a mike jack so i
 thought i would be fine.
The main problem that I am having is that on that and any other computer
a lot of USB recording devices including this one have an unpleasant
buzzing sound. I have found this problem over multiple systems and
multiple USB devices. My theory is that it is electrical interference
between the computer and the USB interface.
what i would like to know is this, is there a way to use the 3.5MM
patching cable connected to the headphone port on my television to
somehow Connect to the Mac without USB? because i'm not getting the best
 Sound with my current configurations.
thanks for any help on this.

Re: [Mac-access]: Nicknames in contacts

2015-02-09 Thread Esther
Hi Paul,

Colin has given you a way to add nicknames to your contacts from your Mac, but
from your example I presume you would prefer to do this from your iPhone. You
can easily add nicknames to your contacts on the iPhone. For example, on your
iPhone, you can tell Siri, Open contacts app for Bob. (You can also do this
by double tapping on the Phone app or and then double tapping on the Contacts
tab, or by double tapping on the Contacts app, and typing in Bob in the
search text field.).
1. Double tap on one of the two entries for Bob, flick to the Edit button
in the top right corner, and double tap.
2. Do a four-finger tap on the bottom half of the screen to move to the last
entry, which should be add field.
3. Flick left to the Insert add field button and double tap.
4. On the Add Field screen, flick right through the name field options
(Prefix, Phonetic First Name, Phonetic Last Name, Middle, and Suffix)
to Nickname and double tap.
5. Enter the nickname you want associated with this contact. (I assume you can
identify the individual from either the email or phone number information on
his contact page.)
6. Double tap the Done button in the top right corner of the Contact Info
screen.

You can now use the nickname in your Contacts entry to have Siri send mail or
text messages, or to phone either individual named Bob.

HTH,
Esther

If I go to the task bar on my iPhone (double press of the home button) I see
a list of recently called phone contacts. this list includes just the first
name such as Bob. Unfortunately I phone two different people called bob
so I am not sure which Bob is which. Is it possible to add nicknames to my
contacts so that people with the same first name can be distinguished? Note
that I would not want the nickname to appear in any email I sent to that
 contact

Re: [Mac-access]: Merging files into a single file on the Mac

2015-02-09 Thread David Griffith
I believe you can do this in Amadeus Pro but a free old Windows trick
that I used to use was to zip mp3 files together and then rename the
resulting zip extension to mp3. The result was a merged mp3 file. I
have not tried this on the Mac but you could give it a try as logically
it should work there as well. You need to check that filthe files are
all in the rightr oreder in the zip.David Griffith
