Well said.

Even when the list was active I personally did not find it very helpful at all.

But this is getting fucking ridiculous.

I have tried everything and I can't seem to unsubscribe.

Receiving. Multiple. Emails. Is no fun at all!

Frankly you should be ashamed of yourself Mr Gordon.

Blatantly spamming people's email addresses with this nonsense.

Not respecting or listening to people's requests to be removed from this stupid
list.

Messages bouncing when I ask to be removed.

A horrendous web interface.

To be honest there are far better alternatives available to Mac-access.

For the last time please remove me from this sorry excuse for a list.

Just a couple of points.

1.

I tried the suggestion made by Ms Ann no dice.

2.

As another list member has pointed out a simple email informing people that
they are back online would have sufficed.

Please don't make excuses for Gordon's incompetence.

Simply harvesting everyone's email address and receiving multiple copies of
every email that is sent to the server clattering up once inbox is absolutely
unacceptable!

I have tried numerous things including trying to contact these administrators
via Skype.

They either don't want to take my call or they keep going off line.

For those who don't know, the eyes-free list is for Android users.
It gets at least 200 messages a day, and it is unmoderated.
My ISP had just switched to using the gMail server when I subscribed, so my
eMail went in as my user name at gMail.com.
Then I tried to unsubscribe and the unsubscribe commands did not recognize me
because my eMails going to the list showed up as from my ISP, @cableone.net
When I complained to the list, someone there was able to set me up so I could
not post to the list, but I was still getting the messages.
For a couple years, I just filtered them to my trash.
Then my ISP came back with providing their own eMail server, and I was put
into IMAP, and my filters no longer worked.
Their web interface was AJAX, rather than standard HTML, by default, which
made it unusable by a Blind user.
So after all that, I feel like the folks complaining here have little to
 complain about.

They even have a link for an accessible version of the site.
Admittedly, the accessible version seeks to make things simpler by
removing (some) functionality, but it works well enough.
They have an Iphone/Ipad app which is completely accessible as well,
even giving you the ability to play music, and read pdf files directly
from their app without having to download said files first unlike
other backup services such as sugar sync).
They give 10GB free, and there's various options for more if you need
it, and being able to share folders makes for a nice place to drop
those large files you want others to be able to access.
Their web interface is pretty good, even without the accessible version.

Using the Mac and VoiceOver with WordPress.com.

2014-01-22 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Hi all,

I believe there are some list members who use the WordPress.com standard to
manage their blogs.

I've tested the below website which is in my signature with 3 of the other
screen readers.

My questions are:

1.

How is one use social plug-ins with the WordPress.com standard?

2.

When I use the WordPress.com mobile application to try to view my posts I get
the message cannot load posts please check your credentials.

This is despite the fact that I have logged in to the mobile application using
the correct credentials for my domain.

Quite befuddled with this one.

I'm happy to connect on Skype with anyone who can give assistance just to keep
list traffic to a minimum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Media fire accessibility.

2014-01-21 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Greetings and salutations to all,

Just wondering if anyone can comment on the accessibility of this application?

Media fire is a cloud service somewhat similar to dropbox, sugar sink, Google
Drive etc.

Totally unusable on the desktop.

The iTunes link is below:

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/mediafire/id555646196?mt=8.

If someone could test accessibility and get back to the list with their
findings? I'd be most appreciative.

Thanks guys. This list has grown in valuable as I continue to push the
boundaries of my Apple products both professionally and personally.

Thank you.

Re: Looking to buy a mac

2013-04-08 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Hi Matt,

You could try Apple's refurbished section

They often have pretty good prices depending on the model of Mac that you are
interested in buying.

As far as running Windows a lot of us use Fusion Which works wonderfully.

Good luck.

Hi David and Anne,

thanks for your individual responses to my issue it's most appreciated.

Said documents were created on a Pc Pages comes up with the following error
when ever I tried to open the file:

Pages can not open the document import error the file extension is incorrect.

The strange thing is this is happing to only one document all other types of
files created using Microsoft word 2010 work find with Pages.

Very baffling indeed.

Was a bit disappointed that Apple couldn't help as it's clearly a software
issue.

oh well.

Anymore suggestions/troubleshooting tips?

2013-03-09 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Hi David,

The extension is .doc. The other one is .docx.

Unfortunately I am not able to email these files as they contain sensitive
information.

I'm sure you understand.

Suffice it to say I've tried changing the file extensions Of both documents
and nothing has worked so far.

Thanks for the suggestions though.

Locate the file in Finder and press enter on it. Then copy all the filename

 Hi David and Anne,

thanks for your individual responses to my issue it's most appreciated.

Said documents were created on a Pc Pages comes up with the following error
when ever I tried to open the file:

Pages can not open the document import error the file extension is
 incorrect.

The strange thing is this is happing to only one document all other types of
files created using Microsoft word 2010 work find with Pages.

 Very baffling indeed.

Was a bit disappointed that Apple couldn't help as it's clearly a software
 issue.

 oh well.

 Anymore suggestions/troubleshooting tips?

2013-03-09 Thread Sadam ahmed
Hi Anne and all,

I now have managed to open one of the documents the .doc. File however I am
still struggling to open the .docx document.

As Anne points out clearly Pages can work with these file formats despite what
AppleCare tell me which I frankly find extraordinary that the software can't
handle such a simple feature.

Looks like i'll be spending my weekend messing around trying to get this to
work.

What a way to spend ones Sunday.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my question I find this list to be more
and more invaluable as I push the limits of my Apple products.

Or are you talking about Pages on IOS? I wouldn't use that for serious work

Hi,

You might want to consider AccessNote from American foundation for the blind.

For your convenience here is the direct URL:

https://itunes.apple.com/au/app/accessnote/id591287188?mt=8.

It's around $19 the app works with bluetooth refreshable braille displays and

Hope this info helps.

Hi

Nothing has been announced by Apple Officially. But as the fourth-generation
Intel processors will be released in July of this year it's a safe bet to
assume the refresh is imminent.

But with this company you never know.

If you have the cash right now feel free to purchase.

Re: The iPad mini reviewed.

2012-11-23 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Hi sir,

Thanks for your opinion.

I always love to spark good discussion on these things.

Actually my concern which I didn't point out in the review is that this device
runs an older CPU.

I wonder what will this mean for software upgrades?

Most likely the iPad 2 will be retired by Apple next year.

If you match Google's tablet with Apple's tablet on price alone there is no
doubt that Google's tablet wins.

I just think this device is too expensive.

This is coming from a guy that owns a 13-inch Macbook Pro, the iPhone 4S, the
iPad 2, the fourth-generation iPod touch, and fifth-generation touch.

But each to his own.

Kind regards,

Mr Sadam ahmed.

I have to slightly disagree with your review. The contrast on the iPad mini
display is excellent, and far superior to the iPad 2. The dots per inch
(DPI) is higher than you quoted, it is actually 166 as the resolution of the
display is the same as the iPad 2, but the same pixel density is squeezed
into a smaller display which means it is slightly sharper than the iPad 2.
To be fair, nobody complained about the iPad 2 display before March this year
when the retina iPad was finally launched.

As for the Nexus, yes it has a higher resolution display, but the apps have
not been designed to take advantage of that. They are just stretched phone
apps. The only thing which is sharper is video and text. As for usability,
I still think Jellybean lags behind ios. Talkback is buggy and less
responsive than voiceover in my opinion and lacks many of the features
voiceover has. The only advantage talkback has over voiceover in my opinion
is the ability to choose your own TTS.

I can say this from experience, my Nexus 7 mainly sits in the drawer and
since getting my iPad mini, it is my device of choice and saves me running
down the battery on my iPhone.

Yes it would have been nice to have a retina display and an A6 CPU, but at
this stage it might have been difficult to cram all that into the thin and
light iPad mini. The Nexus 7's build quality just can't compete with the
iPad mini, and the wider screen on the iPad mini is far superior for reading
books and web pages, compared to the slim 16:9 display of the Nexus.

Before I get slammed by all the Android lovers, this is just my opinion of
 owning both products.

you move VO focus to it and then press enter to bring it up.

Strange behaviour with money reader.

2012-01-19 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Hi all, today I downloaded the money reader app on my iPhone 4S. Unfortunately
when I run the app all I'm getting from voice-over is money reader running. All
efforts to get information by taking a picture of a $20 Australian bill have
failed. Is there something I'm missing here. Maybe someone can give me a hand
with this one? Thank you kind regards.

Hi there, it's easier than you are making it.

All you have to do is, in a well lighted place, launch the app and position
the back camera over the bill. Wait a few seconds and it will announce the
denomination. Taking a picture is not necessary. It can take a second or two
and there is no indication from the phone that it is working.

Re: Using LookTel Money Reader for the first time [was Re: Strange behaviour with money reader.]

2012-01-19 Thread Sadam Ahmed
Thanks for those tips. :)

Sent from my iPhone

On 20/01/2012, at 3:11 AM, Esther mori...@mac.com wrote:

 Hello Sadam,

When LookTel Money Reader starts up, the camera on your iPhone is immediately
activated. There's maybe a 3 or 4 second pause before you hear Money Reader
Running. Once you get that message, any bills that are placed within view
of your iPhone camera, and in sufficient light, will automatically be
identified. I typically hold my iPhone 4 camera between 4 to 6 inches from
the bills, for all currency (including Australian dollars). On the iPhone 4,
and I believe this is also true for the iPhone 4S, the light on the camera
will automatically come on if there is insufficient light to identify the
bill. (This is not true for the iPhone 3GS -- you must first check that
 there is adequate lighting.)

If you have not had any success with using this app, try the following: Place
your bills in a flat stack in your left hand with the iPhone lying on top of
them. The iPhone is in the normal orientation for use if you picked it up --
the touch screen is toward you and the home button is at the bottom. The
long direction of the bills lies along the long direction of the iPhone, and
the width of the bills is only slightly wider than the iPhone. You can have
everything centered and lying flat on the palm of your hand. (If you are
left handed you can make the same arrangement with your right hand.)

Now, simply pick up the iPhone by gripping the sides of the device with your
other hand, and lift it straight up from the palm of your hand about 4 or 5
inches. You should hear the app announce the amount, e.g., 10 dollars.
VoiceOver will continue to repeat the denomination of the bill in the camera
view. You can also use the app on bills that are on a flat surface, but I
find it is easier to get a sense of the height and position if you first try
this by holding iPhone in one hand and the laying the bills flat in the palm
of your other hand. You can try moving the hand that holds the iPhone to
different heights, and feel what's most comfortable for you, and how quickly
the app responds to identifying the currency.

OCR apps work best when you hold the camera fairly steady, at whatever height
you raise it to, so when you experiment, first move to a position, then keep
your hand in that position while the app runs. LookTel Money Reader should be
able to identify currency regardless of which side of the bill is facing the
camera, and it works fairly fast (e.g. tenths of seconds), so it will do
pretty well even if you don't hold the iPhone camera steady. (However, you
shouldn't try to deliberately wave the camera around so that it is never able
to focus well on the money.)

Since the app reads whatever currency is in the camera view, it's best to
have only one bill visible at a time -- e.g. fanning out a number of bills
with different denominations will only confuse things. You could place a
stack of bills under the camera, then remove the top bill one by one, or you
could simply place a sequence single bills under the view of the camera.

Incidentally, LookTel money reader will read out currencies whether or not
VoiceOver is running. It uses different voices for the different currencies,
and they're just different from the VoiceOver voices. If you want to have
the bills identified by tones instead of announcement (for more privacy),
turn on the mute switch (along the left side of your iPhone, near the top --
it's the rectangular switch that you activate by pushing down.) You'll hear
tones with different pitches. One dollar will be a single, low tone. Five
dollars will be three low tones. Ten dollars is a single, high tone. Twenty
 is two high tones, etc.

 HTH. Cheers,

 Esther
