MacGroup: printing question
I am running 10.1.5 on the desktop machne and 9.2.2 on the laptop My computers are connected through a LinkSys router; there is NO USB hub. MacGroup: SCSI 1, 2, 3
Hey Nelson, Call Macwarehouse for the adapters. MacTown may have them too. You may want to describe your needs differently i.e. describe the connector. SCSI 1 or SCSI 2 could be a DB-25 connector or a 50-pin centronics. Which one? Other valid descriptions for these standards would be mini-50 pin, 68-pin wide, or 80-pin wide. Referencing the gender would be helpful too i.e. male or female. So you would request for example an adapter that would go from your G4 built-in mini 50-pin port to a DB-25 connector that you could hang your zip drive off of. Hi George, No. It?s not normal. However, this could occur if you have set your software update system preference to automatic and it periodically installs some software updates that require a restart. Still, that scenario doesn?t make much sense either as most software installs that require a restart would also require you to enter your password prior to the install. Are you actually sitting in front of your Mac when you see the message appear? Ward Oldham On 11/6/2002 4:10 PM, George H. This is not normal. Have you tried to update to 10.2.1 to see if that helps? OS-X is designed to go for long stretches of time without restarting, but without knowing more of what you are running and things like that it is very hard to say what the problem is. If you have a DSL or high speed it may have automatically downloaded the update to 10.2.1... or installed some security fix as there were some holes in 10.2.0. Either way... go to software update and get the 10.2.1 update and it may fix that problem. I had it for a while until I updated everything. Allen - Original Message - From: George H. MacGroup: Restart
Some do and some don't. The ones that will are those that muck around with the kernal software (the main part of the OS). While technically it IS possible to upgrade and not restart, doing so would involve on the fly shutdowns and restarts of so many things that you don't see running behind the scenes, it is just as well accomplished by a global restart. This though is a different type of restart than the one being described (there hasn't that many updates and they haven't been released on a weekly basis. But I do think Apple should do a better job at explaining about why system updates usually need a restart.
