Wow, very clever architecture! That sounds like a perfect solution. (Now if my boss will only go for the $10/mo price tag...) Re: ARD alternate VNC server software
The same app serves as both client and server in that it can be used in either direction. The way "both ends" apps work is that when you set them up for "unattended access" on the server side (which means creating a private password), they start up when your Mac starts up and call into a central server with a permanent unique ID (which they show you when you set them up). You type this ID into the client at your end, it calls into the central server, communicates with your server machine, which asks you for your password, and you get in. These apps don't require port forwarding because the connection handshake is done in the developer's server, not via direct Internet protocols. Since "both sides call out" to the central server, no holes need to be poked in the router's NAT table. > On Aug 26, 2021, at 3:19 PM, Carl Hoefs > wrote: > > Interesting! Re: ARD alternate VNC server software
Interesting! By saying it does a "call out from both ends" you mean it's not just a client? In Sys Prefs --> Sharing, I will need to uncheck "Remote Management" on my target machine (the one I want to remote desktop into), and then port 5900 will be closed. How will AnyDesk interact with the host? Is there software to be installed on both ends? -Carl > On Aug 26, 2021, at 3:06 PM, Macs R We wrote: > > I've settled on AnyDesk for screen sharing. Re: ARD alternate VNC server software
I've settled on AnyDesk for screen sharing. It's a "call out from both ends" service, so no port opening or forwarding is needed. > On Aug 26, 2021, at 2:55 PM, Carl Hoefs > wrote: > > My workplace is cracking down on access to port 5900 (VNC), so I can't use > Apple Remote Desktop anymore. ARD alternate VNC server software
My workplace is cracking down on access to port 5900 (VNC), so I can't use Apple Remote Desktop anymore. ARD has to operate on port 5900, and can't be changed to use another port. Has anyone set up a Mac with alternate VNC server software? I tried X2go but I can't get it working. -Carl ___ MacOSX-talk mailing list MacOSX-talk@omnigroup.com https://www.omnigroup.com/mailman/listinfo/macosx-talk
