RE: Pro Tools 8.0.4 is finally out
Hi. basicly to use pro tools, you need either a piece of avid hardware. Either digidesign or m audio. (Digidesign is now avid although the stock currently being sold by dealers still has the digidesign brand name.) You can buy a USB interface, like the m box mini, m box 2, m audio fast track, or, for better performance, a firewire interface, like the m box pro, 003 rack, eleven rack, m audio firewire solo, m audio pro fire 26, etc, or, for the most flexibility and hands on control at this level, a control surface/audio/midi interface combo like the digi 003 or the m audio project mix. Some of the Mackie onyx mixers have a pro tools plug in for their firewire interface cards as well... however, keep in mind that these are mixers, not control surfaces. If you buy an m audio interface, you'll want to buy a copy of pro tools m powered. If you buy any of the digi interfaces, you'll get a copy of pro tools le included. For specs, check the avid site, or, sites like sweetwater, musicians friend, etc. Cameron. -Original Message- From: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com [mailto:macvisionar...@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of M. SOS!!! Help!!! Voice Over has gone mad and can't authorize JAWS on windows 7 upgrade
Hello Folks: I am beyond frustrated at this point. Maybe it's just coincidence, but we have had computer problems galore this past few days. My husband's windows laptop has a short in the electrical plug jack and is very difficult to get charged up. No, it's not the cord. We've tried several that work on other machines just fine. Since become a Mac user in December, I decided to be generous and give him my windows machine, but wanted to do the windows 7 upgrade first. I did, and now can't get Jaws to authorize. I'm trying to research this problem on the net, and Safari has gone around the bend on me, freaking out just as I find some information that might be helpful in solving the windows computer's authorization problem. I know someone on this list knows how to get past the windows and Jaws authorization problem. I would be ever indebted to whomever would be so kind as to let me in on the secret of how this is done. I'll dance at your wedding, give you my first born, whatever it takes. LOL I haven't read all my E-mail yet, but please tell me there is a fix for this Safari issue. For me, it goes far beyond the Audible site. I'm running into trouble all over the place. I've tried Web Kit, clicktoflash, repaired permissions, reset Safari and Web Kit, and many other suggestions. I'm about ready to reinstall OSX on the Mac so I can go back to the old Safari until this is fixed. I guess that would work If anyone can help, I would greatly appreciate it, and if you can't, thanks for reading my rant. :) -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Audible.com site with safari 5
Hi Chris: Could you be so kind as to give me a push in the right direction where it comes to reinstalling the OS? Re: Audible.com site with safari 5
I don't remember everything I did, but it seems pretty simple. I think all I did was put the cd in the drive, click install, and then make sure the hard drive was selected. I think I could have done an optional install and just reinstalled safari, but I hadn't done anything with the mac really yet so decided to do a full reinstallation. Maybe someone else can shed some light on this. I was surprised it didn't totally whipe the machine, but all my mail and ichat accounts and things were still there. Something to try for those who like me want to downgrade. as a new mac user this is very disappointing. Has this happened with safari before? Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems
Hi, It doesn't solve the problem. It fixes it so that refreshing the page works 80% of the time. There is something else that I've been doing and it has worked every time for me. When you go to audible.com, shut down vo, refresh the page, and wait for several seconds. Then restart vo and find the html content. I've found this to be very reliable. Hope this helps. Re: apple power adapters to sell
Hi Erik, You don't actually need to use a separate Apple travel adapter for your MacBook's power brick -- any of the standard travel adapters can be plugged onto the end of your regular plug. However, the travel adaptor kit is convenient, if a bit expensive. My Apple Store put a few of these on sale for $10 off about five years ago and I picked one up. I may take one of these plugs along if I travel, but mostly I make do with the regular travel plug adapters. Thank you Cameron, This is extremely useful. Mark Sent: Friday, June 11, 2010 9:34 AM To: macvisionaries@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Pro Tools 8.0.4 is finally out Hi. basicly to use pro tools, you need either a piece of avid hardware. VoiceOver podcasts, links, and other useful information at Vision Australia

We are hoping to get out a minimum of two demo's per week. end quote The page goes on to give links covering the following subjects: Mac audio demos using VoiceOver iPad audio demos using VoiceOver iBooks to get you started reading on the iPad Paid iPad apps to get you started Free iPad apps to get you started iPhone and iPod Touch audio demos using VoiceOver Free apps to get you started on the iPhone and iPod Touch Paid apps to get you started on the iPhone and iPod Touch Tip and manual docs for Mac, iPhone, and iPod Touch Evaluations of the Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, and Nano useful links for more information concerning the Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch and other Apple products Looks like they started assembling this material in late April, and there seem to be a lot of good demos. Can't find it, but this one should do: Verizon Likely to Follow ATT's Move to End Unlimited Data Pricing http://www.channelinsider.com/c/a/Messaging-and-Collaboration/Verizon-Likely-to-Follow-ATTs-Move-to-End-Unlimited-Data-Pricing-544452/ Probably, the only provider left with unlimited will be the ghetto data network of T-Mobile. Basically, they gave out unlimited, and didn't realize how much data people would actually use streaming movies and such. When you go to some areas of cities where a lot of smartphone users are located, it is difficult to access anything, because the network is so clogged. I guess they should upgrade capacity, but they've decided that people want data so badly, they'll pay, and having people pay will both bring in more money, and force people to cut back on their data use at the same time. People will gripe and whine, but if you want to use a smartphone, you'll pay, or else have no Internet. If you buy an m audio interface, you'll want to buy a copy of pro tools m powered. If you buy any of the digi interfaces, you'll get a copy of pro tools le included. Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems
For what it's worth, Safari has worked like a charm ever since I unchecked the web setting in VO utilities that says move the voiceover cursor to it when loading a web page. I've done no other modifications except resetting Safari, so I'm not sure how much of a factor that is. Teresa On Jun 11, 2010, at 10:12 AM, Barry Hadder wrote: Hi, It doesn't solve the problem. Re: Possible workaround to Safari5 Problems
Hi, Glad it's working for you. In my case, it seems to help, but it's still less than desirable. I have found however, that if I shut down vo, refresh the page, then what a few seconds before starting vo, I think I'm letting what ever loads to do whatever it's doing before I start trying to read the page. strange behavior in itunes when selecting multiple files
Hi all, there is a strange behavior when I select multiple files in itunes 9.1.1 and press command+i. After pressing command+i, I go to the options-tab and I find there something strange like: - a checkbox with the description part off collection and a combo box with the same description and the choice yes or no in the combo box. The same happens for: restore position, skip when shuffle is active, collected album I think that this makes no sense since the values of the checkbox and the combo box are both yes/no or on/off. What do you think about this? Thanx for your answer, best regards, William -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. New list for Pro Tools discussion [was Re: Pro Tools 8.0.4 is finally out]
Hi Bryan, Can you please set up the new list so that it is archived at the Mail Archive and searchable? Read the FAQ for how to do it: http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#newlist It only took about 10 minutes of fiddling back and forth to do this for the vimacaudio list, with none of us knowing how this worked. Since then, there's an extra step, so read the document. This will save people having to repeat and type in questions many times, as on the viphone list. And please change the anyone can join status before you get spammed by people looking to find Google groups they can join and post to for advertising --- that's what happened when the macvisionaries list started up, and it's why the list is not just open. Re: New list for Pro Tools discussion [was Re: Pro Tools 8.0.4 is finally out]
Hi Bryan, Searching the Mail Archive is really much easier than doing the Google Groups search. -- I can search what has been posted in the macvisionaries list faster than I can search mail on my own computer and get better results with less effort for a simple query than when I use a Google serach. It supports Boolean arguments, wild cards, date, ranges, etc. I don't even have to use most of these to get a good result. Even better, it supports access key command searches that let you read up and down the list by time or by thread. These work for any browser, if you substitute the correct access key, For Safari (with VoiceOver on), the access key is the Control key. That also means that if I find a match I can read up or down the thread with Control-N (for next post) or Control-P (for previous post). This cuts through a lot of extraneous material. On high volume lists, I can also read the list directly through the mail archive site when I'm traveling or away from my computer. The default mode is threaded, but I can switch to time ordered by using Control-I and then read through with Control-B (back to previous post by time) or Control-F (forward to next post by time). To go back to threaded mode by contents I use Control-C. This is really very powerful, and I'd say that my most effective use of the macvisionaries archive dates from discovering that the list was archived at the Mail Archive and finding out about the search and wild card options. For example, I can find any of your posts by typing: From:Bryan in front of my search terms. HTH Cheers, Esther Bryan Smart wrote: Hi Esther. Re: Open Office 3.2.1 released
I wouldn't hole my breath on that. From what I understand from their bug tracker, the developers have no idea how to fix that at this time. I can't remember actually what the case number was, but if I find it, I'll post it for anyone interested in keeping up with this. Personally, I think that IWork is vastly farther along as accessibility gos, so I'm far more interested in Apple cleaning up what they have. MPowered and HD will soon follow, but Avid is just releasing the update, so the others might take a few hours. This update is for many other improvements besides just accessibility, so Avid is quite busy with getting it out there. Please be patient. Re: apple power adapters to sell
Hi Erik, Well, I can understand worrying about the Braille display, but laptops, cell phones, and mp3 players are designed to work on power sources that support variable voltages. What I'd worry more about is finding enough outlets for all your devices. One thing that may be useful is the Monster Outlets to Go travel power strip. Here's a sample link to the product in the U.S. Amazon store: http://www.amazon.com/Monster-MP-OTG400-BK-Outlets/dp/B000F9YN2M It's about as long as a 6 inch ruler and the size of a thick candy bar in your hand. It has two outlets on each side, and a short three-prong plug cord that wraps around and plugs into one of the outlets for convenient carrying. I don't remember whether I've used this in the UK, and that adapter may be trickier to plug in with the two prongs of a three-prong plug, but elsewhere in the world this works fine. Plus, it ensures you can find outlets for your other devices as long as you can plug this into one outlet. Certainly works well for the rest of Europe and traveling in North America. And if you're in an airport, and someone is using an outlet to charge their devices, you can ask whether you can plug this in, let them use one outlet, and then use the other three to charge your devices. Re: apple power adapters to sell
Hi Eric. When in the USA more than a month ago, I bought my Mack book Pro. It was cheaper than buying it in the UK as this is where I live. I then asked the sales person in the Apple store to get me an international adaptor. This adaptor is round and has four buttons on the side. When the buttons are pressed, you can pull out any plug of your choice. So now, as I'm back in the UK, I have plugged the international adaptor to my American plug and now I just use my Mac Book Pro in the normal way. Kawal.
You can VO left arrow one time from the canvas area, there you will hear calendar list. Interact with the list and you can check and uncheck the calendars you wish to view. Brett C. Hi Kawal, This is an odd question, but can you create a podcast folder under Itunes Media? A new Mac user with a few questions.
Hi list. I bought my Mac about a week ago, I’ve been an iPhone user for about 6 or so months. I love my iPhone, so I decided to take the plunge and by a Mac. I like it so far. I do have a few questions though. When I’m reading documents with “vo keys A”VO seams to just stop around the end of every paragraph, Is there a way to stop this? Or am I doing something wrong. It’s incredibly annoying as I quite often read long documents for uni, or occasionally ebooks on my windows laptop with JAWS, and I’d like to be able to do the same on my Mac. Also, Should I get a virus or spy wear program? And if so, which one do people recommend to use with vo? I’m shore I’ll have more simple questions, but I’d never even used a Mac till last Friday. (smile) Thanks for any help. Kari. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group.
