The weird thing is, I've heard Voiceover say, growler app, but I don't
see anything on the screen with my vision and I've never known what it
related to. I'll see if I can find bad thing in the preference panes
and see if you makes a difference for me.

Re: Reading text in Pages and TextEdit

2011-04-11 Thread Dan Roy
Well, this is a good suggestion, however I myself have not been able to do
anything in verbosity that would stop the speaking of blank lines using the
word newline. this is a rather trivial thing, but, does get quite annoying.
This isn't only true in text edit, but, just about any type of document out
there. I certainly wish they could fix that for sure!

Re: How do I get rid of Click to Flash?

2011-04-11 Thread Bryan Jones
Hi Kim,

The removal method will depend on whether you have the clicktoflash plugin or
the clicktoflash extension installed. Note that you should not use the two
together. I've had better luck using the extension. Safari should be restarted
after uninstalling. I did a quick google to find the following uninstall
instructions.

Instructions to remove the plugin can be found in the "Usage Instructions"
section of the clicktoflash website here:
http://clicktoflash.com/

Instructions to remove the safari extension can be found here:
http://hoyois.github.com/safariextensions/clicktoflash/

Re: A growl tip

2011-04-11 Thread Chris Norman
Hiya mate,
Glad you found it useful. I've never before messed about with the
settings, just been on a long list of "things to do, when there's
nothing more interesting to do" LOL. I don't know about any central
repository for information, I'd say the best way for people to
assimilate (for want of a better word) new information, is just to sit
back, and sponge on these lists, because there's some great folks on
here, Rays last post proves that really. I mean, here I am, been using
a Mac for everything for about 4 or 5 years now, and I'm still
learning new stuff, like that voiceover command f10 thing that someone
posted in (can't remember who). A "Newbie's guide to the mac", would
be a fundamentally bad idea in my opinion, because the sheer bulk of
information, is more likely to scare the living shit out of new users,
rather than enlighten them, whereas, if they just sit back, and listen
and learn, they're going to be drip-fed new info, which means they're
more likely to take it in (little and often and all that), as well as
not be overwealmed by all the new tech stuff.

HTH, and sorry for the ramble LOL.

Re: A growl tip

2011-04-11 Thread Chris Norman
Yeah, well, to be honest LOL, I didn't even know there was a speech
setting until you just said. But, as it happens, not sure if it's just
my machines or what, but speech, if there's VoiceOver running too,
gets swallowed up, and I could do with knowing about things like
DropBox ETC, but good point, as the third message in this thread
proves, we should be pumping any information to the list we can,
there's bound to be someone who'll use it.

Cheers, and glad you're now a very happy mac user LOL, not noticed
your tag before! :-D

Re: Webkit and Safari Troubles. Click to Flash dialog coming up every time I open Safari or Webkit. HELP!!!

2011-04-11 Thread Zachary Kline
Hi Kim,
I would suggest that since Click to Flash seems to be misbehaving particularly,
you start by removing that and work your way from there. I believe the graying
out of items implies some kind of dialog box is open, so I'd also investigate
whatever that might be. Take it slowly and isolate the problem. I dare say
something is corrupted somewhere, possibly related to your installed plugins.
I must qualify all this by saying that I've never used Click to Flash myself,
and so don't know anything about it specifically.
Hope this helps,
Zack.

one, I get a dialog that pops up with click to flash release notes, etc., which
I have to click the OK button to get out of. I then am put on an HTML page
with what looks like preference choices for click to flash or something. I
close this with command W, and am put on my home screen in either Webkit and
Safari.

>From here, nearly anything I try results in mostly nothing. I also notice
>that when I go into the menus for Safari or Webkit, most of the choices under
>the Safari or Webkit menu are grayed out and unavailable. Even the choice to
>quit Webkit or Safari are unavailable. I have to force quit both of these
>applications.

Fortunately, I have IE running under windows under Fusion, or I would really be
having a fit. Webkit seems to have been getting increasingly irritating over
the past few weeks, and I have found myself using IE more and more. This is
not the direction I had intended to go with my Apple products, but I have no
choice for now.

Anybody have any suggestions? I even got rid of Webkit and redownloaded the
latest build, just to have the same thing pop up as soon as I opened it.

Any assistance is appreciated in advance.

Thanks,

Kim

I used Cyberduck for a while. It works fine but the status information of up-

Re: help with signatures, please

2011-04-11 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hi.

If You wish to set up a signature, press command comma to get to the
preferences. There is a control button on the extreme left. Interact and VO
right until you here signatures. Press VO space to select. Stop interacting.
Then VO right until you come to a table. The first column is where you fill in
your name such as mine. Then VO right again and the next column is where you
fill in the text of the signature such as your name, MSN and Skype and whatever
else. VO left again until you get to another table. Interact and vo or arrow
down until you here the name of your e-mail account above that you will have
all signatures. Choose your e-mail. Then VO right and pass your name and the
text you filled in. Then if you want your signature to appear at the top
before your message, check the box where it says put signature before the
quoted text. Make sure there is nothing after and close the window by pressing
vo W and you are done.

If I've missed anything at all, please correct me someone as I've never given
comprehensive help before.

Re: word documents on mac's?

2011-04-11 Thread Esther

Hi Ashley and Others,

Earlier this year Yuma asked whether there was an easier way to save to Word
document format from Pages without having to use the export feature in Pages
each time. I ran a Google search for an AppleScript to batch export from
Pages09 to Word format and posted where to find this. I'll paste in the
instructions I found from the MacScripter site and posted in response to this
question:

(From Yvan Koenig):

Go to my iDisk :

Download :
For_iWork:iWork '09:for_Pages09:batch_exportPages2DOC.zip

Yvan KOENIG (VALLAURIS, France)

You can set up a keyboard shortcut to this AppleScript so you can select your Pages output files in Finder
and apply the shortcut to convert them to Word format.  I've checked and the files are still available at the
author's public idisk location given above.  (The colons separate directories -- the batch_exportPages2DOC
script in zip format is in a folder named "for_Pages09" that is a subdirectory of "iWork
'09", that is in turn in a folder named "For_iWork".)  Instructions are supplied in both
English and French

Incidentally, the Mail Archive pages for this list are extremely useful sources
to search for answers to previously discussed questions.  I recovered the above
information by going to:
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/
And typing into the search text box: "from:Esther Yuma Word" (without the quotation marks) to find
a post that I had authored that included the words "Yuma" and "Word", and immediately
pulled up the link to the post:
"AppleScript to batch export from Pages to Word [Re: :pages export annoyance]"
http://www.mail-archive.com/macvisionaries%40googlegroups.com/msg38559.html

Searches can use wild cards, Boolean arguments, be made by author, subject, or
date range, and results can also be optionally sorted by time (instead of
relevance).  You can also read up and down old threads with access key
shortcuts (on a Mac, this would be Control-n to read the next post in a thread
and Control-p to read a previous post, but these shortcuts also work for other
browsers if you substitute the appropirate access key (e.g., in Internet
Explorer on Windows you would use Alt-n and Alt-p instead.)  For more
information, check the Mail Archive FAQ on searching:
http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#accesskeys

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

To be perfectly honest, i dont' use pages that often. In pages, if you want to save a file as a word file, you have to go through the process of exporting it, which doesnt' take that long it's just a little annoying. It would be nice if pages could just save in a word format.

Re: Tips for importing audiobooks?

2011-04-11 Thread Simon Cavendish
Hello,

I have purchased a small application called audiobook builder which I think is
verry helpful I can import multiple CDs into it, and it will join all the
tracks into one and convert it into either mp3 or AAC bookmarkable format and
you can choose to have it sent into iTunes where Audiobook Builder will create
its own playlist wehre you will find the books you convert. You can then
transfer the playlist manually onto your iPod. Audiobook Builder has its own
simple but comprehensive help menu where you can learn more about its functions.

Hope this helps a little.

Re: Reading text in Pages and TextEdit

2011-04-11 Thread Simon Cavendish
I would have a detailed look within the Voiceover utility under the verbosity
section where you choose the level to which Voiceover helps you by announcing
certain things. You can choose the level low, medium and high but you can also
customise each level in greater details. There is a table there with which you
could interact, and check or uncheck or choose various things. Do have a look.
I can't do it now myself but it is just a quick suggestion in case you are in a
hurry.

Hope this helps.

I have one email account that is an IMAP account. No matter what I do, I can't
seem to delete those messages. Anyone know how to do this on a Mac?
thanks,
Donna

Re: word documents on mac's?

2011-04-11 Thread Ashley Cox
Because the majority of my teachers and schoolfriends don't use macs,
and are always giving me word files. I use these regularly on the mac
with no problems.
To be perfectly honest, i dont' use pages that often. In pages, if you
want to save a file as a word file, you have to go through the process
of exporting it, which doesnt' take that long it's just a little
annoying. It would be nice if pages could just save in a word format.

I've managed to use docx files in text edit. The formatting can get a

Re: A growl tip

2011-04-11 Thread Scott Ford
Hi Chris,
I would like to mention that this is one of those cases the I must have
missed, because I did not know that bit of information. I realize that the one
liners are not saposto happen, however I occasionally like to see basic
information. I am not calling for a clutter of information to the list,
however if someone has compiled nuggets that could be posted for newbees and
thick folks such as myself I would appreciate this. Additionally if there is a
compiled list of outdated techniques and piths that have been dispelled, they
may be helpful for people. Again thank you for this message.
Sincerely,

Re: Voiceover Caption and copying to clipboard

2011-04-11 Thread Jonathan C. Cohn
VO-shift-C does not use apple script. I am fairly confident of this as it has
always been available in VoiceOver.

Also even if it did use the Voce Over scripting functions the visibility of a
specific panel would not effect what the script could access.

A growl tip

2011-04-11 Thread Chris Norman
Hiya all,
I imagine that most people have already figured this out, but I found something
cool this morning regarding growl.

If you go to system preferences, to the growl preference pain, and "Display
preferences", third tab, set the default notification type to anything except
smoke, and notifications become automagically accessible. I'm using Notify OS
X, but you could probably use anything.

HTH,.

Routing the voiceover sound to DJays pre-cuing channels using Soundflower, how?

2011-04-11 Thread Krister Ekstrom
Hi there,
I want to be able to use DJay 3 software with a Vestax spinn that i have to do
some mixing and stuff. I don't want voiceover to go out in the main mix but i
still want to have control of what i do and so i want voiceover sound to go to
say the cuing channels of DJay, how would i go about doing that? Is this at all
doable without buying extra equipment and if so how?And once again, how do i
use sound flower?
/Krister

Re: Writing to an FTP server via the finder

Transmit is cool, but it costs $30 or so? I forget the exact price. Anyway,
Cyberduck is easy to use, accessible, and free. I suggest you try that for your
FTP needs.

I'm afraid that's not possible. I also tried to find a solution for that issue

I didn't experienced that yet.
