Re: issue with google chrome

2011-08-14 Thread Shen
I have the same problems with Chrome. But when I was prompted to choose a
search engine, I chose the first image button. I figure the choices are
probably Google, Yahoo and Bing. I'm quite certain Google is the first choice,
and I was right.
I am able to read an html site, but for some reason, some links don't click.
Drop down menus like amazon.com does not work. When I type something in an edit
box, apparently it is going into the box, but VoiceOver does not read it back
to me.
I can't use tab navigation the way I do in Safari.
In Chrome Preferences, I can get past the first tab, which is Basic.
In my opinion, Chrome is somewhat accessible, but it's not ready to replace
Safari.
I wish there is something that can replace Safari. At this point, I'm ready to
go back to Windows and using Firefox with Jaws or Window-Eyes. At least it's
not going to say Safari busy.

Sendspace wizard and sendspace.com

2011-08-14 Thread Shen
I'm curious if anyone has been able to navigate the sendspace.com website using
Safari 5.1 in Lion.
I know the wizard is not accessible, so that's out of the question.
I just discovered today that if I tried deleting a file on sendspace.com using
Safari, it will go into endless busy.
Chrome isn't coming to the rescue because I can't even log in. Clicking on the
log in link and nothing happens.

Re: issue with google chrome

2011-08-14 Thread Eric Oyen
oh yeah. the dreaded safari busy problem. I am seeing that a lot more lately.
its even happening in the new webkit versions. on top of the safari issues, I
also have mail.app behaving in an odd manner. it starts stuttering reading the
mail titles and even tries to repeat the same line 3 times in voiceover. its
getting so irritating that I give up reading e-mails except in small batches.
this particular problem only cropped up in the last 3 weeks. I have done all
the usual system corrections (scanning permissions and even the repair disk
function). so far, no dice.

please don't ask me to upgrade to lion as I don't have the money nor the
supported hardware. I already tried and the installer barfed while starting up.
even when I got visual help here to see what the problem was they told me it
was not possible to install lion on my system as the cpu was considered too
old. I am saving up for a new mac mini i7. until then, I am stuck with whatever
I have.

feel free to correct me here, I think, you only can access those through the

Hi,

I don't think this will work. You need to actually preform a physical
mouse click with a trackpad or a mouse. If using a trackpad, make sure
trackpad commander is turned off.

Re: system preferences not holding across sessions.

2011-08-14 Thread Joe Paton

Hello Anne,

Thanks for your help on this one. I repaired permissions, and the PRAM,
and finally went looking for the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file.

There are many .plist files in the library folder, but not that
one. The system is set to show all files, I think, anyway I doubt
I'd see some plists, and not the one I need to see. This is the
devil's work.

A significant number of files were altered when repairing permissions
was run, I don't understand the unix file flags so I don't know if
there was a common problem fixed over a group of files. I would have
expected to see the
com.apple.systempreferences.plist file after a reboot if that file is
generated at startup.

I understand that you can drop the com.apple.systempreferences.plist
file in place if that's needed.

Anybody fancy sending me this file? I should be able to modify this
for my own preffs.

Just a wild thought.

BTW this new Mini has no dvd/cd writer reader, and no support data
was supplied. Aparently the mini is no longer built with a cd drive,
because everything is downloaded on to it or installed from a firewire drive.

Have a good sunday.

JP
Am I widely off the mark here?

.

I carried out the three tasks, the first 2, went just fine, but no
change in saving system prefs. Locating the library and apple.com.system.plist

OOTunes, Tune In Radio, Spark Radio, etc. Are there any accessible radio
tuner apps for the Mac? This is sorely missing on my MBP compared to an
IOS device.

Hi,

The first checkbox is labeled stations I believed. The next checkbox is for
play/pause. Then moving to the right again will bring you to the skip button,
thumb up button, and the thumbs down button.

Hi,

You need to go to the purchases section to see the progress of the download. I
believe there is a button for it in the toolbar and it can also be found in the

Re: issue with google chrome

2011-08-14 Thread Dan
Hello,
Just my thoughts regarding web browsing and other problems.
When you think it is related to VoiceOver, please please email

accessibil...@apple.com

and provide them with a detailed report on what you were doing when the problem
occurred and what the actual problem is. Even though you may or may not get a
response, again please don't forget to contact Apple.
Also, use the report bugs to Apple menu item in Safari to report problems as
well.
Another thing to do is this. If you have AppleCare, please contact technical
support and report your problem.I suggest that after you speak with the first
representative, ask to talk with a product specialist. In this way, your
support request will be escalated further up the chain to engineers.

I know that sometimes it is frustrating not to get an actual response or
specific answer to any of the problems you may be having, never the less, Apple
really does need to hear from its product users through as many channels as we
can use.
I am sure that any Apple Developers on the list are also doing all they can to
correct problems as well.

Safari 5.1

I don't remember having this problem with Snow Leopard and Safari 5.06.
Now, it seems that after logging in hotmail, Safari is giving me a lot
 of busy signals.
And here's the clincher. Open an email, and click on an attachment to
download. Safari will go into endless busy. There's no way out of it
unless you force quit the application.
Any suggestions on these issues would be appreciated.

cannot type in the pages application

2011-08-14 Thread Candie Stiles
For some reason, I am unable to type in the pages application on the mac. I
never had this problem before and all of a sudden it just started. When ever I
try to type anything, I get an error sound from voice over and nothing is
written. I am interacting with the body of the document before I begin typing.
Even when I bring up a document that has text already written in it, I can't
type anything and I also can't delete. Basically I am not able to make any
changes to what is already there. If someone has any suggestions can you please
help?

Click-To-Flash and Click-To Questions

2011-08-14 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, folk,

There are two websites that I would like to have flash play automatically in. I
can get things to show that they're playing, but I don't hear anything. The
sites are Hulu and mlb Gameday audio. They used to work in SL, but now that
I've got the Click-To plugin and Click-To-Flash extension, I'm not sure which
settings cancel each other out between the two.

Also, once you open the preferences for either and configure them, how do you
close them?

Thanks,
Teresa

Hi all,

I'm the co-developer a YouTube third-party tool called
EmbedPlus. It enhances the standard
YouTube player with many features that aren't inherently supported. We've been
getting lots of feedback regarding
the accessibility benefits of some of these features like movable zoom, slow
motion, and even third-party annotations.
As the tool continues to grow in popularity, the importance of its
accessibility rises. I decided to do some research and found the WAI Interest
group to be a major proponent of accessibility on the web. If anyone has time
to take a look at
EmbedPlus and share feedback that could help improve the tool, please do.

Here's the link: http://www.embedplus.com/

Thank you in advance,

Re: cannot type in the pages application

With some experimentation I realized that some how the blank template was not
opening when I opened pages. I opened up a blank template and I could both type
as well as open other files and type in them also. It's interesting that I
couldn't type in an already existing file without that blank template opening
first.

A few I O S Devices for Sale: Very reasonable prices!

2011-08-14 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

Hello.

Due to financial hardship, and also the fact I hardly ever use the thing, I
have a perfectly good mint condition with not a single scratch IPad Wi-FI
only 16GB, 1st Generation for sell. Last February when I bought the thing
from Best Buy, out the door, I paid about $420. I'm asking for $300, which
will include shipping within the states. Am asking $25 extra for shipping
if it has to go to Canada, which would bring your total to $325. I can be
paid via cash in the mail, (though highly not prefered,) Money order, check,
or PayPal. PayPal being the most prefered.

I will include a CD rom with the Windows version of Itunes 10.4 for Windows.
I will not include the installer for the Mac version as Itunes is already
pre-installed on the Mac, so there really is no need. I also should mention
that I have updated the firmware to the most recent version, 4.3.5. This
IPad, obviously, includes Voiceover, and upon request, I'd be happy to
enable it for you before shipping it, although it's easy enough to enable
yourself.

Also am selling a like new IPod Nano 5th generation 8GB with no branding on
the back casing, hot pink. Again, I'd be happy to turn voiceover on before
sending. Am asking $50. Finally am selling a mint condition IPod Nano 6th
generation 8GB, pink. I'm asking $35. Again, I'll turn Voiceover on ahead
of time, if you want me to. It's kind of an emergency that I get these
things sold before the end of the month. I'm sorry, I will not do payment
installment/arrangements and the prices are non-negotiable.

If interested, e-mail me back at:

cgilla...@carolina.rr.com

Or call/text me preferably call, at:

704-737-1911

Thank you very much.

Chris.

going from an MBP to a MacBook Air

2011-08-14 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

Since I'm going to be schlepping my Mac around a lot for work in the next
several months, and possibly then some, I'm seriously considering shelling out
the $$ for an 11-inch MacBook Air. I'm looking at one of the new ones, with
all the specs maxed out. My MBP is two years old, running a 2.53GHZ processor
with 4G of ram. I'm wondering if there's anyone on list who can give me an
accurate comparison of the user experience on these two models. A couple of
the things I'm wondering about are:
1. Speed. How will day-today- use compare. My MBP has the faster processor,
but the Air has the solid state drive, which I assume will compensate, at least
to some extent.

2. Sound quality? this won't be a deal breaker, but wondering how the two
compare.

If there are any other differences that people have experienced, either good or
bad, I'd love to hear.
Best,
Donna

P.S. I am aware of the connectivity differences, that's something I can live
with.

vertical slider byVO spacing on the Browse all Versions button, and then
after you are taken back to the main window, bring up the window chooser with
VO F2 twice. You will then want to look for Version Browsing Controls, and
there you will find the vertical slider.

I'm not sure about using VO space to get to the Doc. I use VO D to get to

 Hi Donna,

It is already possible to disable the lock feature.

Go to system preferences, then time machine, then options. You will find
a lock documents check box. There is also a pop up button where you can
change how much time has to elapse before a document is locked.

You don't actually have to be using time machine, so it is a little
strange to find it there, but that's where it is.

Paul, I find auto saving and versioning a little puzzling myself, but I
 can offer a few comments.

First, you need to know that there is a distinction between these two
things. In your experiment, you didn't actually create versions. I'm not
even sure it was auto saving so much as resuming where you were when you
 left off.

Auto saving is when the application will automatically save the current
version, and it happens at regular intervals and when you pause to do
 something else like check email.

When you create a version though, you make the equivalent of another
document. And I believe this will happen automatically as well after a
certain interval, but you can also force the saving of a version by using
 command S.

So here's an example and a test you can perform. I open a document at
4:00 and use command S to give it a name and put it in the folder I want
it in. I work on it for half an hour, and that whole time it is auto
saving all my changes. I hit command S again, and I proceed to make a
bunch of changes to what I've written, and the whole time it is auto
saving everything I'm doing, which means I can close text edit and open it
with all the changes still there. Let's say it's now 5:00, and I hit
command S again, and I decide that the changes I made are terrible, and I
want to go back to what I had at 4:30. What I would do is stop
interacting with the scroll area, then VO right over to the versions menu
button. I can then browse all versions. Once you VO space on browse all
versions, you VO right over to the vertical slider, interact with it,
select the 4:30 version, stop interacting and VO left and VO space on the
restore button. You could do a similar test with shorter intervals.

I think of versions as snapshots. So I know I'm often reluctant to simply
delete whole paragraphs from papers that I'm writing. I will often copy
them into a different document or paste them at the bottom until I know
for sure I'm not going to use them. With versions, though, I can hit
command S before I make major revisions like deleting paragraphs, and if I
note the time, then I can always go back to the state it was when I hit
command S, which means I don't have to worry about saving the paragraphs
 elsewhere.

 I'm sure

Apple certifications, and/or obtaining qualification to instruct.

2011-08-14 Thread ShamelessFanGirl
Good evening all, and a very happy, though I'll be it late casual sunday for
the TA folks. :)

I'm cross-posting this, because I would like as many differing points-of-view
as possible

The subject says it all for the most-part. Have any of you taken the plunge,
and either gone for your Apple certs, or do you instruct from a VO/OSX/IOS
perspective? What was the journey like, is accessibility on the Mac ready for
this kind of undertaking? And lastly, how receptive, is the market for the
implementation of all things apple into the arena of AT politics, for those of
you who instruct? I'm interested in both areas, and so am curious to hear from
those of you who have already gone there what it was like, which doors to open,
and how to get this off the ground.

I've been using my Mac full-time for just over 3 months now, so undoubtedly
have a lot still to learn, however, the experience has been such an enjoyable
one for me, that I want to, if possible, take that to the next level. After
all, some people learn better in a seeing is believing environment, and to the
best of my knowledge, there isn't a lot of that available to the potentially
new visually impaired switcher.

Thanks for reading all, and if this is all even slightly OT for these lists,
too broad, etc, feel free to contact me offlist. Thanks for reading my toam,
and in advance for any/all input regarding my lil endeavor.

Have a fabulous evening

Re: issue with google chrome

2011-08-14 Thread Dan Roy
significantThis is unusual, I haven't heard to much complaining on this
list. yes, since I installed Lion, I am having someproblems with the
itemchooser. However, the reader is working better and so are some other
features. I am sure sorry to hear your having such problems. I seem to recall
your still running SL, so, did you make any significant changes in the last 2
weeks?

anyone has some suggestions on how I can use chrome, I guess I am still

I really hate the thought of going back to windows after spending a year in
OS X. I hated dealing with windows and its arbitrary interface that wasn't
very blind friendly (even with NVDA). anyone have any clues for me?

Re: issue with google chrome

2011-08-14 Thread Oriol Gómez
Hrm, I use lion and I don't have any problems with safari at all. If i
do, it's only on certain sites like facebook list managing. But safari
is sometimes the only browser, or should I say, my mac is the only OS
who's been able to click on certain menu buttons and strange links,
and I'm starting to use it more now, especially since the single key
navigation.

iTunes 10.4

2011-08-14 Thread ezzie bueno

Hello list,
I hope you all had a great weekend.
I've been having issues with iTunes 10.4. I cannot find the
option to back up my iTunes library to a disc on ANY of the
menus. I found it more easily on previous versions of iTunes. I
also cannot find a way to burn a movie to a DVD.
Am I missing something? I welcome any suggestions you may have.
 Thanks,
Ezzie Bueno
