Re: issue with google chrome
I have the same problems with Chrome. But when I was prompted to choose a search engine, I chose the first image button. I figure the choices are probably Google, Yahoo and Bing. I'm quite certain Google is the first choice, and I was right. I am able to read an html site, but for some reason, some links don't click. Drop down menus like amazon.com does not work. When I type something in an edit box, apparently it is going into the box, but VoiceOver does not read it back to me. I can't use tab navigation the way I do in Safari. In Chrome Preferences, I can get past the first tab, which is Basic. In my opinion, Chrome is somewhat accessible, but it's not ready to replace Safari. I wish there is something that can replace Safari. At this point, I'm ready to go back to Windows and using Firefox with Jaws or Window-Eyes. At least it's not going to say Safari busy. Sendspace wizard and sendspace.com
I'm curious if anyone has been able to navigate the sendspace.com website using Safari 5.1 in Lion. I know the wizard is not accessible, so that's out of the question. Re: issue with google chrome
oh yeah. the dreaded safari busy problem. I am seeing that a lot more lately. its even happening in the new webkit versions. on top of the safari issues, I also have mail.app behaving in an odd manner. it starts stuttering reading the mail titles and even tries to repeat the same line 3 times in voiceover. its getting so irritating that I give up reading e-mails except in small batches. this particular problem only cropped up in the last 3 weeks. I have done all the usual system corrections (scanning permissions and even the repair disk function). so far, no dice. please don't ask me to upgrade to lion as I don't have the money nor the supported hardware. I already tried and the installer barfed while starting up. even when I got visual help here to see what the problem was they told me it was not possible to install lion on my system as the cpu was considered too old. Re: system preferences not holding across sessions.
Hello Anne, Thanks for your help on this one. I repaired permissions, and the PRAM, and finally went looking for the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file. There are many .plist files in the library folder, but not that one. The system is set to show all files, I think, anyway I doubt I'd see some plists, and not the one I need to see. This is the devil's work. A significant number of files were altered when repairing permissions was run, I don't understand the unix file flags so I don't know if there was a common problem fixed over a group of files. I would have expected to see the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file after a reboot if that file is generated at startup. I understand that you can drop the com.apple.systempreferences.plist file in place if that's needed. Anybody fancy sending me this file? I should be able to modify this for my own preffs. Just a wild thought. BTW this new Mini has no dvd/cd writer reader, and no support data was supplied. Aparently the mini is no longer built with a cd drive, because everything is downloaded on to it or installed from a firewire drive. Have a good sunday. JP Am I widely off the mark here? . I carried out the three tasks, the first 2, went just fine, but no change in saving system prefs. Re: issue with google chrome
I'm having tons of issues with Safari as well, and the last three weeks sounds about right. I haven't updated to Lion yet either. Seems like several sites I visit tend to stall out just about the time I get to the information I need. The HTML will close and I'll be dumped into the bookmarks bar. Re: issue with google chrome
Hello, Just my thoughts regarding web browsing and other problems. When you think it is related to VoiceOver, please please email accessibil...@apple.com and provide them with a detailed report on what you were doing when the problem occurred and what the actual problem is. Even though you may or may not get a response, again please don't forget to contact Apple. Also, use the report bugs to Apple menu item in Safari to report problems as well. Another thing to do is this. If you have AppleCare, please contact technical support and report your problem.I suggest that after you speak with the first representative, ask to talk with a product specialist. In this way, your support request will be escalated further up the chain to engineers. I know that sometimes it is frustrating not to get an actual response or specific answer to any of the problems you may be having, never the less, Apple really does need to hear from its product users through as many channels as we can use. I am sure that any Apple Developers on the list are also doing all they can to correct problems as well. A few I O S Devices for Sale: Very reasonable prices!
Hello. Due to financial hardship, and also the fact I hardly ever use the thing, I have a perfectly good mint condition with not a single scratch IPad Wi-FI only 16GB, 1st Generation for sell. Last February when I bought the thing from Best Buy, out the door, I paid about $420. I'm asking for $300, which will include shipping within the states. Am asking $25 extra for shipping if it has to go to Canada, which would bring your total to $325. I can be paid via cash in the mail, (though highly not prefered,) Money order, check, or PayPal. PayPal being the most prefered. I will include a CD rom with the Windows version of Itunes 10.4 for Windows. I will not include the installer for the Mac version as Itunes is already pre-installed on the Mac, so there really is no need. I also should mention that I have updated the firmware to the most recent version, 4.3.5. This IPad, obviously, includes Voiceover, and upon request, I'd be happy to enable it for you before shipping it, although it's easy enough to enable yourself. Also am selling a like new IPod Nano 5th generation 8GB with no branding on the back casing, hot pink. Again, I'd be happy to turn voiceover on before sending. Am asking $50. Finally am selling a mint condition IPod Nano 6th generation 8GB, pink. I'm asking $35. Again, I'll turn Voiceover on ahead of time, if you want me to. It's kind of an emergency that I get these things sold before the end of the month. I'm sorry, I will not do payment installment/arrangements and the prices are non-negotiable. going from an MBP to a MacBook Air
Hi all, Since I'm going to be schlepping my Mac around a lot for work in the next several months, and possibly then some, I'm seriously considering shelling out the $$ for an 11-inch MacBook Air. I'm looking at one of the new ones, with all the specs maxed out. My MBP is two years old, running a 2.53GHZ processor with 4G of ram. I'm wondering if there's anyone on list who can give me an accurate comparison of the user experience on these two models. A couple of the things I'm wondering about are: 1. Speed. How will day-today- use compare. My MBP has the faster processor, but the Air has the solid state drive, which I assume will compensate, at least to some extent. 2. Sound quality? this won't be a deal breaker, but wondering how the two compare. If there are any other differences that people have experienced, either good or bad, I'd love to hear. Best, Donna P.S. I am aware of the connectivity differences, that's something I can live with. -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: versioning in text edit and Dropbox
Is it possible to disable versioning with Text Edit when saving to Drop Box? Regards, Jeff On Aug 12, 2011, at 7:34 PM, Marc Workman wrote: Jessica, That's right. The version browsing controls do not come up automatically for me either. I feel like it used to when I first played around with versioning after Lion first came out, but perhaps not. At any rate, you can find the vertical slider byVO spacing on the Browse all Versions button, and then after you are taken back to the main window, bring up the window chooser with VO F2 twice. You will then want to look for Version Browsing Controls, and there you will find the vertical slider. I'm not sure about using VO space to get to the Doc. I use VO D to get to the Doc. I don't have Pages, but I know versioning and auto saving can be included in applications by developers, so I would be surprised if it weren't in Pages. HTH Marc doesn't come up for me either. I'm thinking it is because when I pressed command s it said saving version. but I can't seem to find the vertical splitter to select a different version. also, and this may just be my system, after I quit text edit after playing with versions, I can no longer use VO space to get to the dock. it just dings at me until I unload and reload voiceover! very strange! is it possible to use versions in pages or just text edit? Go to system preferences, then time machine, then options. You will find a lock documents check box. There is also a pop up button where you can change how much time has to elapse before a document is locked. You don't actually have to be using time machine, so it is a little strange to find it there, but that's where it is. Paul, I find auto saving and versioning a little puzzling myself, but I can offer a few comments. First, you need to know that there is a distinction between these two things. In your experiment, you didn't actually create versions. I'm not even sure it was auto saving so much as resuming where you were when you left off. Auto saving is when the application will automatically save the current version, and it happens at regular intervals and when you pause to do something else like check email. When you create a version though, you make the equivalent of another document. And I believe this will happen automatically as well after a certain interval, but you can also force the saving of a version by using command S. So here's an example and a test you can perform. I open a document at 4:00 and use command S to give it a name and put it in the folder I want it in. I work on it for half an hour, and that whole time it is auto saving all my changes. I hit command S again, and I proceed to make a bunch of changes to what I've written, and the whole time it is auto saving everything I'm doing, which means I can close text edit and open it with all the changes still there. Let's say it's now 5:00, and I hit command S again, and I decide that the changes I made are terrible, and I want to go back to what I had at 4:30. What I would do is stop interacting with the scroll area, then VO right over to the versions menu button. I can then browse all versions. Once you VO space on browse all versions, you VO right over to the vertical slider, interact with it, select the 4:30 version, stop interacting and VO left and VO space on the restore button. You could do a similar test with shorter intervals. I think of versions as snapshots. So I know I'm often reluctant to simply delete whole paragraphs from papers that I'm writing. I will often copy them into a different document or paste them at the bottom until I know for sure I'm not going to use them. With versions, though, I can hit command S before I make major revisions like deleting paragraphs, and if I note the time, then I can always go back to the state it was when I hit command S, which means I don't have to worry about saving the paragraphs elsewhere. Good evening all, and a very happy, though I'll be it late casual sunday for the TA folks. :) I'm cross-posting this, because I would like as many differing points-of-view as possible The subject says it all for the most-part. Have any of you taken the plunge, and either gone for your Apple certs, or do you instruct from a VO/OSX/IOS perspective? What was the journey like, is accessibility on the Mac ready for this kind of undertaking? And lastly, how receptive, is the market for the implementation of all things apple into the arena of AT politics, for those of you who instruct? I'm interested in both areas, and so am curious to hear from those of you who have already gone there what it was like, which doors to open, and how to get this off the ground. I've been using my Mac full-time for just over 3 months now, so undoubtedly have a lot still to learn, however, the experience has been such an enjoyable one for me, that I want to, if possible, take that to the next level. After all, some people learn better in a seeing is believing environment, and to the best of my knowledge, there isn't a lot of that available to the potentially new visually impaired switcher.
