 Hi!
I don’t know what the problem may be but i have changed to alex because
i can’t no longer stand the nuance voices.
I first couldn’t really stand Alex but now i have begun to like him a
 lot.
However when scrolling in the list of mail he’s getting choppy sometimes.
Changing to my swedish ivox voice and then back seem to resolve the
 problem for a while.
 Any other having this problem.
This is on a mac mini mid 2011 with Yosemite latest version.
So it might be some lack of speed.
But the ivox voice Elin works as a charm so i would be surprised if Alex
would take more power from the unit than the Ivox voices.

learning to program with Apple's new language on mac or iOS

2015-05-06 Thread Devin Prater
Hi all.
I’ve tried my hands at this off and on throughout the years, and as a possible
source of income I thought I’d see if my little mind is capable of grasping all
this. So in tenth grade, I tried to learn to program, using a code called
quorum. This was in a classroom setting, with an actual teacher, and I got
pretty good at it, the little we went into it—we got to conditional statements
with if and all that. So I’m wondering, and hope this isn’t too off topic,
where good, rather beginner-style lessons can be found that teaches programming
and gives anything like assignments or whatever. I have used, and completed,
codecademy, a free iPhone app that just works with HTML I believe, so I think
I’m at a good beginner level, lol.

It’ll be a bummer, if this app is no more. I use it often.

My Podcast on the OS X Calendar

2015-05-06 Thread Alex Hall
Hi list,
I know some of you have been asking questions about the calendar app on the
Mac. The way you add appointments is confusing, there's no way to review a list
of events, how do you get to a particular day, and so on. I'm happy to say that
I've just made an audio demo of all these features, doing my best to answer
your questions. It's part of the AppleVis podcast, so if you're already
subscribed to that, you'll see it quite soon. If not, here's the link:

Burning a Cd

Is there a way to burn an audio cd without doing it through iTunes? Thanks,

Re: Is MacTubes broken?

2015-05-06 Thread Alex Hall
I had a problem where videos suddenly stopped playing, a year or so ago. That's
what made me switch to YouView instead, which is almost the same thing and is
also free. The only limitation is that you have to donate if you want to unlock
downloading videos.

It’ll be a bummer, if this app is no more. I use it often.

Re: My Podcast on the OS X Calendar

2015-05-06 Thread Nicholas Parsons
Hi Alex,

Haven’t heard your podcast on AppleVis yet, but there is a bug with Calendar
which you might like to take into account when doing any future podcasts on
Calendar.

When in month view, VoiceOver does not detect or announce some calendar events
either when on a day of the month or when interacting with that day.

I reported the bug to Apple and they confirmed it and said they are working on
a fix.

Strangely, the bug only seems to affect some Macs, and on the Macs it affects
it only affects some calendar events and not others, and comes and goes
depending on which calendars are enabled on that mac. Also, when the bug is
present, VoiceOver will sometimes detect and announce the event if you navigate
to it using the tab key or the arrow keys alone (with Quick Nav turned off),
even though it won’t detect it when navigating with the VO keys.

One work around can be to switch the calendar into week view, where all events
are read, but even this seems to only work on some Macs.
