However, the strangest thing is stopping me. I've observed it on 3 machines
at various places, but people don't seem to confirm that it's a thing.

Note: The below behavior is unique to the standard view in mail, which I
prefer. It doesn't seem to happen in classic layout.

In Mavericks, the mailboxes list, which I use quite frequently, is just a
couple of items off to the left of the messages column view once you stop
interacting with the messages column. However, in Yosemite, it's a good 4
or so items to the right. Visually, it seems it hasn't changed at all, but
voiceover seems to think moving to the right is now a good way to get to the
mailboxes list, even though visually it's still off to the left.

This is enough to drive me batty, and the only thing really stopping me from
upgrading. Is there a workaround for this incredibly odd behavior? I can
probably learn to live with it, and I know I could do voiceover command T to
jump to the table, but that's kind of an awkward keystroke on a laptop, for
 me personally.

Thanks in advance for any insights into this.

 DFTBA!

Haven't done it in a while, but, if I recall correctly, it worked using the V(

or so items to the right. Visually, it seems it hasn't changed at all, but
voiceover seems to think moving to the right is now a good way to get to
the mailboxes list, even though visually it's still off to the left.

This is enough to drive me batty, and the only thing really stopping me
from upgrading. Is there a workaround for this incredibly odd behavior? I
can probably learn to live with it, and I know I could do voiceover command
T to jump to the table, but that's kind of an awkward keystroke on a
 laptop, for me personally.

Thanks in advance for any insights into this.

 DFTBA!

Facebook Messenger is a popular means of communicating, but the Mac
doesn’t have a dedicated Facebook messaging app like the iPhone or
Android does… or does it!?! Indeed, you can use Facebook Messenger to
message friends from OS X, and in moments you can set up the Mac Messages
app to function as a Facebook Messenger client in OS X.
 http://osxdaily.com/
Using Facebook Messenger from the Mac is really quite simple, but it’s
entirely separate from configuring Facebook sharing from the Mac, so if
you have done one but not the other, you’d need to complete both to have
the full Facebook functions of sharing, posting, and messaging available
to you in OS X.  http://osxdaily.com/

Re: trillian

2015-06-07 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland

Shawn,

Honestly, that would be exactly what I'd use it for. I wouldn't want it for
my entire news feed/notifications/comments on posts. I'll just use the
mobile site for that, or the mobile app. For messenger though, that's
actually perfect! I might look at it again. I'll just have to see.

Re: turning off the preview pane in Mac mail

2015-06-07 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Frank,

To turn off the preview pane in Mail, first set Mail to Classic view in the
Viewing pane in Mail preferences.
Close Preferences and navigate to the Messages table. Turn off the TrackPad
commander and Quick Nav.
Press VO-Down Arrow to be on the horizontal splitter.
Bring the mouse (VO-Cmd-F5.
Press down on the trackpad with one finger and drag another finger down the
trackpad towards you.
You should now have dragged the horizontal splitter to the bottom of the window
so there should be nothing below it.

Sometimes it takes several attempts to get this right.

Cheers,

Anne

Mud clients was Re: this needs to be mulled over seriously

Well, if you know so much about A.I. and such, why not craft a MUD client for
those that play those games? Lol sorry to be off-topic, but my gosh we have all

Doesn’t matter, I’m not here to fight anyone. Just to point out a few things

get on your computer. Apple has made and gone through tremendous efforts to
make this information not accessible from third parties. And I commend that.
But to altogether not do anything with your data just for the purpose of

perhaps the whole user experience of accessibility could be tons better. I

The difference here, the nuance you were basically not able to catch, is

I'm almost ready to bite the bullet and upgrade my mac to Yosemite. However,
the strangest thing is stopping me. I've observed it on 3 machines at
various places, but people don't seem to confirm that it's a thing.

However, in Yosemite, it's a good 4 or
so items to the right.

Re: Favorites Bar in Mail

2015-06-07 Thread Kliph
I posted instructions earlier about this. Skip the drag and drop method, and
use the mouse down, and mouse up command. So, find the mailbox you want to add
to favorites, do the mouse down command, vo, command, shift, plus space bar.
Then go to the favorites bar, go to the right of where you want the mailbox in
your favorites, then repeat the mouse down command only now it will be mouse
up. So vo, command, shift, plus space bar. HTH

if the above list of apps is incomplete., I would like suggestions on other
apps that can round out this list.

I did try Battery Health and found it problematic so its gone. Think
someone mentioned Battery Monitor. My MBP does not travel but I still want to
keep an eye on its battery.

Any other must-have or at least useful apps in this category? Thanks.

Re: Adding email mailbox to favorite list

2015-06-07 Thread Kliph
I don't do it the drag and drop way. I do the mouse down command. So find the
mail box you want to add to favorites, do the mouse down command, witch is vo
keys, plus control, shift and space bar. then go to the favorites bar, go to
the right of the mailbox where you want it, then repeat that command vo control
shif space bar, and that is the mouse up command and it will drop it in place.

Re: Adding email mailbox to favorite list

2015-06-07 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

One minor correction, it should be VO-command-shift and spacebar.
