have lost the ability to tag people on facebook using the latest mac OS and voiceover

2016-03-20 Thread Michael Marshall
hey all,
in the days before the latest mac OS i could go on the main Facebook site and
tag people in posts by typing @ and then the first few letters of there name, i
could then Arrow down with quicknav off and double click the person to tag.
Recently I have lost the ability to perform this function witch to me is a very
serious problem.
does anyone have any suggestions? i am using the latest beater update.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Michael

Re: VoiceOver does not speak images in the UIImagePickerController

2016-03-20 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I think what Ben means is, with some of the apps which produce source code
based on option you select from a front end UI, the code can be sometimes
rendered a bit wrongly. This is why I always encourage devs to write their own
code rather than letting an app do it for them.

Anyway, it's just a thought, but I agree with Ben, this is definitely a
question worth asking.

Changing e-mail from All Messages to most recent 150 in Pop3 Gmail account on iPhone 6 running iOS9.X

2016-03-20 Thread Kevin Gibbs
guys,

I’m sorry if the subject line isn’t clear. It used to be that my Gmail
account, which is a Pop3 on my iPhone, used to only download the most
recent 150 messages, or so. When I upgraded from my iPhone 4, running iOS
6.x, to my iPhone 6, running iOS 8 and then 9, my Pop3 account changed so
that tens of thousands of e-mails were downloaded to my phone. Space is
not an issue. but I really wish I could change this so that it works the
way my iPhone 4 used to. that is, I only want 150 messages, or less, on my
phone unless I choose to “see more.” Can this be changed?

Sorry if I already posted this.
thanks,
Kevin

RE: Screen Brightness default

2016-03-20 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
I echo Ben's last statement here, E.T. I'm not doubting you either, but can you
be a bit more specific?

Steps taken:

1. Either press FN+F1 until you reach 0%, or go to system prefs, display,
interact with the slider, and VO+Down arrow all the way to 0 percent.
Sidenote, I'm doing this with the screen curtain disabled.

2. Reboot the machine. Perform these two steps either with the charger
plugged in or not. It doesn't matter.

Result: The screen returns to brightness level 100% upon successful reboot
once OSX loads.

Expected result: the screen should stay at the percentage set in the above two
steps once rebooted.

I see an option under system prefs when plugged in, or when on battery to
slightly dim the display, but that's not what I'm attempting to do. I'm
literally wishing to keep the exact same brightness level regardless, once the
system fully restarts and is fully booted.

Thank you for trying to help me trouble shoot this; your help is appreciated.

Chris.

I was able to reproduce Chris's problem. Neither the slider under system
preferences, displays, nor the energy settings does this. Maybe with newer
systems, it sticks. But with older macs, such as my Mid 2010 MacBook, and
Chris's Late 2012 MacBook Pro, it does it identically the same whether you use
the function keys or the system prefs slider. It resets the brightness to 100%.
I also tested this on battery power, and it doesn't do it. The energy setting
would just dim the screen slightly, whereas we're trying to literally maintain
the exact screen brightness percentage after reboot.

We're not doubting you, neither are we trying to make you look incompetent or
anything. We're just stumped.

Thanks,

Ben

Re: Screen Brightness default

2016-03-20 Thread Ben J. Bloomgren
I was able to reproduce Chris's problem. Neither the slider under system
preferences, displays, nor the energy settings does this. Maybe with newer
systems, it sticks. But with older macs, such as my Mid 2010 MacBook, and
Chris's Late 2012 MacBook Pro, it does it identically the same whether you
use the function keys or the system prefs slider. It resets the brightness
to 100%. I also tested this on battery power, and it doesn't do it. The
energy setting would just dim the screen slightly, whereas we're trying to
literally maintain the exact screen brightness percentage after reboot.

We're not doubting you, neither are we trying to make you look incompetent
or anything. We're just stumped.

Thanks,

Ben

I’m having an issue and I have no idea what to look at next in the
trouble-shooting process.

I have a MacBook Pro, mid 2012. I am having problems with Amadeus Pro. I
am running the latest version of El Capitan and Amadeus Pro. the program
will no longer allow me to change formats of files, completely closing the
instant I select another format under save-as. The program also does not
allow me to save larger files, such as anything taking longer than about 5
minutes to record.

The SSD has plenty of space for said files, over 400gb. I’ve tried saving
to external sources as well.

I reinstalled Amadeus Pro and that did not change any of the behaviors.

Then I installed Amadeus Pro on my iMac, 2014. It works as it always has,
saving files in many formats without issue, allowing recording, editing
and saving of files up to 1 hour long, etc. The iMac is running the same
version of El Capitan and Amadeus Pro.

I did inherit the MacBook Pro but it had been so gently used that it ran
great until very recently. I’m wondering what else to check and if this is
a symptom of more issues with other programs. So far the other things I
use, Fine Reader Pro, Text Edit, Pages and Mail, plus of course Safari,
are fine, if not a tad slow.

I haven’t spoken to Apple yet about this as it initially involves a 3rd
party program and it’s easy to shift blame.

I’ve been considering moving to the iMac anyway but my husband likes it
for the monitor though he’s not a Mac fan…yet.

Any thoughts or processes would be hugely appreciated.

Hmm.

I wonder if maybe there is a corrupted PList file which is causing this.

Have you thought of maybe trying to see if there are some issues with file
permissions? I know that El Capitan does pretty well with making sure
things are running smoothely, but it's definitely worth considerring over
all.

I’m having an issue and I have no idea what to look at next in the
trouble-shooting process.

I have a MacBook Pro, mid 2012. I am having problems with Amadeus Pro. I am
running the latest version of El Capitan and Amadeus Pro. the program will
no longer allow me to change formats of files, completely closing the
instant I select another format under save-as. The program also does not
allow me to save larger files, such as anything taking longer than about 5
minutes to record.

The SSD has plenty of space for said files, over 400gb. I’ve tried saving to
external sources as well.

I reinstalled Amadeus Pro and that did not change any of the behaviors.

Then I installed Amadeus Pro on my iMac, 2014. It works as it always has,
saving files in many formats without issue, allowing recording, editing and
saving of files up to 1 hour long, etc. The iMac is running the same version
of El Capitan and Amadeus Pro.

I did inherit the MacBook Pro but it had been so gently used that it ran
great until very recently. I’m wondering what else to check and if this is a
symptom of more issues with other programs. So far the other things I use,
Fine Reader Pro, Text Edit, Pages and Mail, plus of course Safari, are fine,
if not a tad slow.

I haven’t spoken to Apple yet about this as it initially involves a 3rd
party program and it’s easy to shift blame.

I’ve been considering moving to the iMac anyway but my husband likes it for
the monitor though he’s not a Mac fan…yet.

Any thoughts or processes would be hugely appreciated.

Yes, the edge is still the best headset in my opinion. It amazes me how
long both headsets have been out with no replacement.

Max, your brother is misinformed. Bluetooth is a series of specifications
that are standardized so aside some special features in general most
things work pretty well with each other. There are headsets in general
though that work better than others. This is one of the favorite topics
of mine and also the moderator’s Mark I believe.

In my mind there are two ways to go and there have been the 2 same players
on top for a while now. There is the plantronics legend and the era by
jawbone. The Jawbone is the most stylish / smallest headset and the
plantronics is the largest most utilitarian of the two. Depends on what
your goal is. If you want to look cool, have good noise reduction, medium
battery life and have the same toys as the cool kids buy a Jawbone. If
you want your headset to work in all conditions, want fantastic noise
reduction, don’t care about the fact there’s a boom microphone and you
need great battery life then the plantronics voyager pro legend is the way
to go. Hands down the plastrons works the best it’s just whether your
concern is mostly function or you want some style.

How’s that?

BTW I use the voyager pro legend almost exclusively now although I carry
both. I find the plantronics just more stable and for my professional
calls and work environment the only option.

2016-03-20 Thread Terje Strømberg
Hi,

My only big issue left that i know of is: at log in, how do i route voice over
speech to the internal speakers of the iMac? At login the speech goes through
the hifi system via usb to amplifier. I want voice over speech through the
internal iMac speakers at log in.

Take care

Re: Checkbook/Checkbook Pro

How does that work with banks? I know usually the bank checks have a routing #
as well as the account #. It would be very convenient. I don’t know how many
people have had me rewrite a check that the teller couldn’t read.

Re: Checkbook/Checkbook Pro

2016-03-20 Thread E.T.

Bill,
In the Pro version, are those transfers between accounts done
automatically once you set them up? I do not do many of those but would
lile not to interact with them at all. In the old checkbook program on
Windows. its automatic. I am still getting used to this one so may just
need more time.

I looked at the Pro features and am not sure if I need that.

I so rarely write checks but it might be time to rethink that.

Re: How to emulate numeric keyboard in a Macbook air keyboard?

Thanks Ane!

I am an old mac user as well, and that’s what I was remembering from ages ago.
But now, I think that the Number Keypad will be the option. The problem is we
need a bluetooth one, because the USB is not an option, because we need our
ports free.

Thanks again!

Hello Daniela,

Before the Intel Macs, there used to be a Numloc key on a laptop keyboard, but
this is no longer the case. There may be a utility out there somewhere to do
this, but I don’t know of any.

External numeric keypads aren’t expensive and would do the job.

Re: Cleaning IPhone screen, perhaps an obvious question

2016-03-20 Thread Seyoon Choi
Oh, I see. Well, I usually try to get as much dust off of my screen with a dry
microfiber cloth that I mentioned earlier and avoid using any wet wipes, etc,
but again, all of this probably comes down to your personal preference, but I
don’t think any harm will be done either way if you are aware of the coating
that I mentioned.

Re: iPad settings navigation

2016-03-20 Thread Sabahattin Gucukoglu
Yes. When iPad first appeared with VoiceOver, pressing a button on the left
side of Settings would jump you to the first focusable item on the right side;
for example, pressing General would jump you to About, after a short click. I
know that is what I saw, back then. I had to use my mother’s iPad today, and
sure enough, it utterly doesn’t work now. Which is a shame. :(

tips for using Vocalizer voices

2016-03-20 Thread Devin Prater
Hi all. Are there any tips for working with the Vocalizer voices? Sometimes
they are still unresponsive, especially the bigger ones, like Ava and Samantha.
When I download a new voice, or even switch voices, it takes seconds for the
new voice to load, whereas regular Mac voices, like fred, activate almost
instantly. I have 4 gigs of ram, if that counts.
Sent from my Mac.

Currently only Scott has replied to this message. We have decided to go off
list with this discussion. So if you are interested in participating please
send me a direct e-mail.

Obviously for copy right information, I would not feel comfortable discussing
details on list, but discoveries along the way of which tools are VO usable and
probably a summary of how much additional work a VO user would need will be
provided to the list.

Volume is subjective based on many factors, but at full blast I can hear the

Hi,
I checked the link.
The issue could be due to the fact that the app supports iOS 3.0 or later. A
lot has changed since then and I'm assuming some of the Apis The developer may
have used May not be supported by more recent versions of iOS.

Thank you.

They do have a protector but you don’t need it. It’s an entirely sealed unit
with a protector built in like the otter box but much more sealed and much more
streamlined.

They’re a pain in the neck. I’ve had several people tell me you need to
take them off on occasion to clean the screen itself, which I never
understood, until I somehow found a bump of some sort under the plastic,
which I can only assume is a piece of dirt, sense it doesn’t seem to move
much, and the case has been on there a good year or so.

Handwriting actually just uses the finger drawing the letter in print. Use a
three finger flick down to change the case of the letter, the number, or
punctuation.
