Re: iPhone X and hard reset

2017-12-09 Thread Janet Ingber
Hi,
Press the volume up button and then quickly press the volume down button.
Finally, hold in the side button for a few seconds. If you have some vision or
have sighted assistance available, hold the side button until the Apple logo
appears.

Hope this helps.

iPhone X and hard reset

Hi listers,
I am trying to help my brother hard reset his iPhone X and we can't get how to
reset it. I found an article on iDrop News but he tried doing it and he was
unable to reset hhis phone. How long do we wait after each button press? I know
the first step is to press and hold the side button then quickly release. How
long does he have to hold the button in?

Re: To Me, Braille is Beautiful in iOS 11.x

2017-12-09 Thread alia robinson
It has not gotten better!it is truly awful. you have to change input as well as
output on your display, and if you touch the wrong things it changes volume or
page or forgets where you left off. I can make it work but it’s hardly worth
the trouble. in fact the book I’m reading now has the volumes mislabeled.
volume 1 is actually volume 2, as if navigation weren’t awful enough. it’s just
easier to read elsewhere.

How is Kindle with Braille better than BARD Mobile? Just wondering, as BARD
Mobile shows pure Braille, and I doubt Kindle can put in things like Braille
italics and such.

RE: Iphone 6 with Ios 11.2 bug

2017-12-09 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Ramy,

As far as I know, what you are experiencing is unique to your device.

It may be helpful to conduct some test calls to determine what happens
immediately after a reboot of the phone, making certain to clear any apps from
the App-Switcher.

It has been my experience that, regardless of what Apple purports, certain apps
can definitely impede call quality.

Yes, Simon. I think possibly a bad config somewhere.

I think I saw a message in one Google search that specified a list of
possible culpirt files, but I haven't been able to reconstruct that
 search yet.

I ran both the scm and nvram procedures I found referenced. But it
didn't seem to help. After copying all kinds of files onto the USB,
boot camp got locked into a "boot camp busy" message for a good hour.
I decided that was some kind of loop so blasted out with Option
 Command Escape.

Back to the drawing board. I seriously want this to succeed. I need a
hard look at the Linux support Windows 10 is now providing in its
 terminal environment.

RE: iPhone X cases?

2017-12-09 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Donna,

I've got 3 now but only use 1,

It's a wallet case as I like to have protection over the screen and it's got
slots for my credit card etc.

The one I use is made from TPU plastic around the phone and the back / front
are a canvas like product which is very hard waring as I'm hard on cases.

I also have an apple wallet case or folio case which is a fine leather
Black with a card slot and cash slot.

This I haven't used as it didn't fit my needs

I'd use a lifeproof or or otta box but I prefer to carry cards so I don't need
my wallet

I tried to use the folyo case, but it didn’t stay closed, so I went with the
apple leather case and temperd glass. I usually go with the oterbox serious,

RE: app store access

2017-12-09 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi David,

I’m not sure if it’s worked but I setup an alias to my main mail address
Then wiped an iPod and reset it up using the country I want the apple id in,
Not sure if it’s worked but hey we’ll see what happens.

If you use one email address, it is necessary to change countries in iTunes.
Each time you change countries, you need to enter a valid street address in
said country.

Hi,

Creating an account in any country requires a legimitate physical / mailing
address in the country. Do not select a credit card. This account can be used
to download free apps. I have a US, NZ, and AUS accounts. Note that if one
purchases iTunes cards on an account, it is not possible to change countries
for said account until the iTunes funds are completely used.

Hi Janina,

Yes
I've checked a couple of times in the NZ app store for it but nothing there yet,

However searching for Microsoft gives a very large number of results including
some very enterprised based services.

Well, shouldn't be too long now, Simon. Having finally seen a Windows 10
environment for myself, I have a new appreciation for how tightly integrated
Edge is in their business strategy. I'm confident they want to disseminate Edge
far and wide.

RE: podcast on installing windows with bootcamp accessibly

2017-12-09 Thread Simon Fogarty
Hi Janina

You've installed the latest windows os version,
Yes my boot camp was done a year or so back so there was no assistive
installation.

And yes the key presses I am aware of.

Thanks.

Hi, Simon:

The Windows part of the install process is fully accessible. It's not the same
screen review commands you know from Voice Over, of course, because it isn't
Voice Over being, rather Narrator on Windows. But, all one need do is activate
Narrator some little time after the Windows installer starts by pressing
Windows plus Control plus Enter.

FYI:The Command key becomes the Windows key
The Option key becomes the Alt key
Return becomes Enter

All this is explained in the podcast that is the first message in this email
thread. I am remiss for not thanking them for showing the way.
They're a bit chatty while waiting for the computer to do its thing, i.e. the
podcast could be improved by being edited down to no more than ten minutes, but
all the data is there and it's quite well illustrated.

Hi again all,
My other major concern with AirPodw is volume. My Aftershokz have onboard
volume control, but now I have to use my phone. I've noticed that VO volume is
adjusted with media volume, even if I change the volume while VO is silent. In
other words, despite VO not speaking, turning down loud music turns down
speech. I want to lower the music but keep VO the same. How might I do this? I
always thought VO had to be speaking to be controlled by the volume buttons,
but that's not the case at all. Thanks.

Windows won't shut down in Fusion

2017-12-09 Thread Eric Brinkman
Hello all,

I am running windows 10 in VMWare Fusion on a late 2012 MacBook Pro.
When I select 'shut down' via the start menu, Windows just shifts
screens for a minute or two as though it is going to shut down, then
goes back to the desktop. The only way I can shut it down is to go to
the menu bar in Fusion and select 'shut down this virtual machine'.
Do you have any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks,
Eric

I will agree though that the process is bloody slow, I always put

 Hi, Simon:

I guess I'm just shocked at how slow and cumbersome the boot camp process
of writing to USB media is. Frankly, I wonder whether there's just a log
of old code there than hasn't been updated since the Pleistocene.

It's also very unforgiving. On my first try with boot camp I stupidly
pulled the USB without first ejecting, and boot camp hasn't forgotten or
forgiven me. DiskTool is happy with this stick, I've re formatted and
repartitioned it on Linux with no issues, but Boot Camp won't touch it.
But, it won't touch it after tyeing up the Airbook with an hour's worth of
formatting, downloading, and copying of files.

I've googled on this and see I need to go play with scm and nvram.
 Sheesh.

Re: podcast on installing windows with bootcamp accessibly

2017-12-09 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Simon:

The Windows part of the install process is fully accessible. It's not
the same screen review commands you know from Voice Over, of course,
because it isn't Voice Over being, rather Narrator on Windows. But, all
one need do is activate Narrator some little time after the Windows
installer starts by pressing Windows plus Control plus Enter.

FYI:The Command key becomes the Windows key
The Option key becomes the Alt key
Return becomes Enter

All this is explained in the podcast that is the first message in this
email thread. I am remiss for not thanking them for showing the way.
They're a bit chatty while waiting for the computer to do its thing,
i.e. the podcast could be improved by being edited down to no more than
ten minutes, but all the data is there and it's quite well illustrated.

Re: To Me, Braille is Beautiful in iOS 11.x

2017-12-09 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Sorry, off topic a bit but I was thinking of donating a Kindle reader to my
place of worship with a Kindle book copy of the prayer book. Now that you
mention that Kindle works with Braille on IOS I am wondering if Fire devices
support Braille or if I should rethink my donation and contribute an older
iBook. For that matter, could either of the Android based Braille Notetakers
support Kindle book reading with Braille? Thinking about providing the most
flexible solution.

Thanks for any solutions provided.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Unwanted language switching in High Sierra

2017-12-09 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello everyone,

This is a question for anyone who runs High Sierra generally in another
language other than English.
Many members of my French list are having a lot of trouble with VoiceOver
switching to the Alex voice for no apparent reason when they have a perfectly
good French voice selected in VoiceOver Utility.
Does anyone have this trouble with a system that has been installed in another
language, or is it just another example of Apple France pretending that
VoiceOver doesn’t exist so they don’t have to worry about its localisation?
Cheers,

Anne

Re: How do I get iOS to go back to AirPods?

2017-12-09 Thread Alex Hall
Thanks, everyone. It was the 3d press on playback controls that I was missing.
I sure wish there was a faster way. I'll play around more with removing and
reinserting them after disconnecting from the Mac or other devices to see how
well that works.

RE: podcast on installing windows with bootcamp accessibly

2017-12-09 Thread ilovecountrymusic483
Hi,

I just need to get a good USB headset and I will be all set. If I can get this
working, I can get rid of windows 10 in a vm and use it natively. Anyone know
whare I can get one? Thanks.

Hi Janina,

Yeah but if you’re a total like me
You get the reboot and then it all goes dark and quiet, and you have to ask for
sighted assistances.

I so wish Microsoft would put a fully accessibile installation means in to all
windows systems.

No, not a bad config, just bad behavior because I didn't respond soon enough!

This time I baby sat the install, ready to enter my password at a second's
notice, and all went fine.

Sheesh. I haven't had to work this hard on an install since, since, since ...
Well, I don't know since ...

2017-12-09 Thread Aleeha Dudley
Hi,
You can also go to control center, either double tap and hold or 3D touch on
the now playing controls, and select layback destination. Your AirPods should
appear there.

Hi all,
I got myself an early Christmas present today, and am happily rocking my first
set of AirPods. Overall, I quite like them, though I still feel that supporting
both double and triple taps on each Pod would make them far more efficient to
use. Still, having better Siri access and a more convenient charge/carry method
than Aftershoks is nice.

My question is about reconnecting them. I started with them on my phone, as
most people do, then told my Mac to use them. I disconnected from my Mac, and
they didn't revert to my iPhone like I thought they would. I had to go to
bluetooth settings and tap them to get them back. I assumed there'd be a faster
way, though, like in Control Center. How do I do that, if such a way exists? I
know how to select AirPods on Apple Watch and Mac, but not on iPhone or iPad.
I'd also like to have them default to my phone when disconnected from another
device, but I have a feeling that's not yet possible. Any help here would be
great. Thanks.

Media and VO volumes with AirPods?

2017-12-09 Thread Alex Hall
Hi again all,
My other major concern with AirPodw is volume. My Aftershokz have onboard
volume control, but now I have to use my phone. I've noticed that VO volume is
adjusted with media volume, even if I change the volume while VO is silent. In
other words, despite VO not speaking, turning down loud music turns down
speech. I want to lower the music but keep VO the same. How might I do this? I
always thought VO had to be speaking to be controlled by the volume buttons,
but that's not the case at all. Thanks.

Re: To Me, Braille is Beautiful in iOS 11.x

2017-12-09 Thread Angie Nutt
I so agree with you; I love reading Kindle books in braille for instance. When
I first got a braille display about 2 years ago I was over the moon. I still
use speech though when my hands are doing other things; just love the choice.

All the best

I have not been following this thread but I understood that one of the big
features of the Windows 10 Fall Update that came out this Autumn is that it is
now possible for blind people now can install Accessibily out of the box.
Narrator is now available during Setup. You turn Narrator on with control
windows enter. I have not tried it myself but it certainly has been reported.

RE: app store access

Hi David,

Can you use the same email address for each account or do they need to have
different accounts?

Hi List,

Not sure if I should really ask this but it is apple product related,

Does anyone have information on how to setup an account in the itunes / app
store for apple for a country other than the one they live in?

I’m interested in setting up an account for the USA iTunes store and also
Austrailia and would like to know how to do this without requiring a credit
card for that country.

Cheers,
