Re: orbit reader and mac?

2018-10-20 Thread Mary Otten
I think the question I would have is this. Which displays do allow you to
update using them mac? Seems to me that most of them if not all do not.

Voice dream reader update successful

2018-10-20 Thread Mary Otten
Since I have had some fairly serious disappointments with certain upgrades of
this app in the past, I thought I would report that I finally bit the bullet
and updated to the latest version just now. Apparently, everything went well. I
had to do it, because when my new iPhone comes next week, it’s going to install
the latest version, which would not be compatible with my current library. So
it looks like all’s well that ends well.

Re: OT need TV recommendations re accessibility

2018-10-20 Thread Mary Otten
It’s probably not so odd that they recommend Samsung. After all, their main
concern is not Accessibility. For my money, given that the voice on the Amazon
fire TV is so much better than any of the rest of them, you can’t beat it. I
don’t care about the picture. Everything is accessible. I do have a Samsung. If
I had to have just one or the other, it’s no contest.

they basically told me no plans were being made; it would be too expensive, and
when I pointed out if it was a display for all there should be a universal way
to update not tied to an operating system they told me that was too bad this

orbit reader and mac?

2018-10-20 Thread Maria Chapman
Hi list.

I am about to get an orbit reader, when it arrives. Someone on the VIphone
list, was saying the orbit reader couldn’t be used as a mass storage device on
mac. I already know it can’t be updated using a mac, which is a bit of a pain,
and either means I will have to run a virtual machine or get a small netbook.
I was wondering though as I am running NTFS for mac, will the orbit reader work
as a drive? or will I still need to use a card reader? Not a huge problem as I
have a card reader on my mac, but I was just curious.

Also have any mac users started any kind of discussion with the manufacturers
about being able to update the reader with a mac?

Maria

Battery issues with new iPhone 8

2018-10-20 Thread Mary Otten
I’m writing this on behalf of a friend who’s not on this list. He recently
purchased an iPhone 8, and he is finding that his battery is not lasting well
at all. For instance, overnight with the screen locked and nothing running in
the background, he went from 100% to 43%. I seem to recall somebody saying that
resetting network settings helps, although I don’t understand why it should.
And I assume although I just did ask him in an email, have you rebooted the
phone? Other than those two things, is there anything else he can do?

Re: Inaccessible experience purchasing an iPhone through T-Mobile

2018-10-20 Thread Mary Otten
No, of course you wouldn’t have that problem at the store. My problem is that I
did not want to have somebody take me to the store and then have to wait while
we went through the process. I thought I could just do it from home online
which I have done before. Not this time, at least not until my husband got home
and could complete that final step.

Subject: Inaccessible experience purchasing an iPhone through T-Mobile

I purchased, or I should say I pre-ordered, an iPhone XR today through
T-Mobile. I first tried on the website, but it kept saying it was having
problems loading and I should retry. So I ended up calling my “team of experts“
on my current T-Mobile phone. The Customer Service from T-Mobile was very good.
The woman got my order and sent me an email with a link that I had to use in
order to electronically sign the document. They use a service called Doc you
sign. And the very last thing you have to do with that service before you
submit the order is to draw your initials or write your name in a box on the
page. Naturally, voiceover does not see this box, so this process is not
accessible. The customer service person at T-Mobile was apparently on familiar
with this process, as she had really no knowledge of this in accessible box.
When my husband got home tonight, he did the signing. When I am curious about
is whether anyone has found a way around this ridiculous in accessible feature.
It seems to me I’ve purchased an iPhone a couple of years ago from T-Mobile
using the same process, only I don’t think it was doc you sign. Or if it was, I
didn’t have that stupid box. I wonder how others did with their online
purchases through carriers.
