My internet speed is 300MB down and 15MB up. Safari used to do the same until I
cleaned out cookies. I did not have this problem closing until OS 10.14.4.

RE: Mail

2019-04-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Angus,

Hmm! Well, connection speed is definitely not an issue.

Have you attempted to rebuild the database from within the Mail application. I
believe the option to rebuild your mail boxes is located under the Tools menu.

If that doesn’t work, then you should search the net for how to delete the mail
application database files, manually. Doing this will cause the Mail
application to completely rebuild your mail files from scratch, when next it is
opened. Please, please, please make a backup of your system before deleting
any system database files, manually.

If that doesn’t work, then, my friend, were I you, I would install a fresh copy
of the OS onto my computer.

You know, it’s funny; even with all of the new Macs I’ve purchased throughout
the years, I haven’t installed a fresh copy of Mac OS onto my primary partition
since 2011, yet my system continues to work like a charm. Some guys have all
the luck, eh? (smile).

On the desktop the command was if I remember, option function and end.
If anyone can help me with this jumping to end or any other tips for a

Thanks so much. Visiting the HandyTech site itself, not the HIMS distributor,
was a bit refreshing, although I do wish they had the manual in HTML format,
with a link there from the product page like Freedom Scientific has. Oh, and
that Applevis article is here

Thanks again so much for your comments.

If not the edge then look for the voyager 5200 which is a step up in the

Hello Traci,

While the Voyager Edge is my preferred Plantronics model, it has been around
for several years so it should be easy to locate on the web. The, Edge, is the
name of the model to which I am referring.

Know that this particular model is a single-ear device. Plantronics makes many
models, some that are for use in both ears. As long as the device-description
states that the device can connect to multiple devices, simultaneously, you
should be good to go with any Plantronics Voyager model.

Please let us know which one you purchase and how it works for you.

It’s a very cool little app that breaks Swift coding down to chapters

It’s free and so far very easy to follow.
I don’t know if there is an iPad version but this is a great option if you

2019-04-18 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
THe bluetooth problems are gone but you have to pair the bluetooth audio
separately.
The cells i think are brilliant.
Those handytech displays i’ve had through the years does not have the dying
cells problem.
The battery seems to last for weeks but that is not a statement just a personal
comment from me.
I asked the reseller here in Sweden and he did not know when he last charged
his device.

RE: Apple watch & bluetooth headset

2019-04-18 Thread M. Taylor

Mark

Hi Lister,

I thought this might be of interest for some, Mark T for one.

I’ve just been playing with an app for the iPhone, called “Code Swift”,

It’s a very cool little app that breaks Swift coding down to chapters And gives
you error break downs and if needed video help from the developer of the
application.

It’s free and so far very easy to follow.
I don’t know if there is an iPad version but this is a great option if you
don’t have one or don’t want to take your tablet with you.

Check it out and enjoy

RE: Mail

2019-04-18 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Angus,

There are several variables that could cause the issue you described.

However, off the top of my head, I would say this most likely has to do with
the speed of your computer to the internet mail server.

Give the mail app a little more time to close, say, an extra 20 seconds or so,
the next time you quick the app, and see if that does not make a difference.

when doing a CMD + Q?

The 17 best weight loss apps and gadgets, CNet

2019-04-18 Thread M. Taylor
The 17 best weight loss apps and gadgets
Looking to lose weight? Here are the best apps, fitness trackers and other
tech that can help.
cNet staffApril 17, 2019 9:26 AM PDT

Losing weight is not an easy endeavor for most. It often requires
significant lifestyle changes, including exercising or altering your diet in
order to do it.
Those changes might seem daunting, but they can be easier to handle with the
help of apps on your phone, wearables and other smart devices.
Before we start, we want to acknowledge that many factors -- including
stress, hormone levels and genetics -- can affect your weight and any
efforts to change it. Technology cannot change all of the factors that
affect weight, but they can offer support for two main pillars that help
many people change their weight: Food consumption and exercise.
Disclaimer: The information contained in this article is for educational and
informational purposes only and is not intended as medical or health advice.
Always consult a physician or other qualified health provider regarding any
questions you may have about a medical condition or health objectives.

The best weight loss apps
There's a seemingly never-ending list of iOS and Android apps that can help
you track your food consumption and activity so you can make changes that
will affect your weight.

Calorie-tracking apps
Let's start with food. Lifting weights and cardio are important for
maintaining a healthy lifestyle, but eating a balanced diet is just as, if
not more, beneficial.
One way to do that is by cataloging your meals, which helps you keep track
of how many fruits, vegetables, grains and meat you eat. It can also find
ways to change the number of calories you eat.
Out of the hundreds of food-tracking apps out there, one of the best is
MyFitnessPal. It simplifies the process of tracking your calorie intake,
whether you are cutting calories for weight loss or adding more for weight
gain. The app is free and available on iOS and Android.

The MyFitness Pal app
Sarah Tew/CNET
You start by telling the app about your current weight, goal weight, gender,
height, birth date and daily activity level. Then the app will calculate how
many calories you should eat each day.
Once you're set up, it's time to log your meals. Food can be entered in
manually, chosen from a user-generated catalog of more than five million
items or even scanned with your phone's camera. You can even set reminders
to ensure that you never miss logging a meal. The app can also connect with
many popular fitness trackers from Fitbit, Garmin, Withings and others.
MyFitness Pal also shows you a breakdown of your macronutrient intake, such
as fat, carbs, and protein. Those are important metrics to track if you're
hoping to build muscle, trying to stick to a low-carb diet or are focused on
eating balanced meals.

Another popular option is Lose It, also available for iOS and Android. It
offers similar features to MyFitnessPal, but also includes a cool feature
that can analyze a photo and automatically log the meal.

Fitness apps
Combined with a balanced diet, or on its own, exercise is well-established
as a tactic for losing weight. If you're just starting out with exercise, or
are looking for ways to track the progress you are already making, there are
plenty of apps to help.

Guided workout apps
You don't need to sign up for a gym to lose weight. There are dozens of apps
that offer guided workouts and coaching, all for free.

The Nike+ Training Club app is one of the best because it offers more than
100 free guided workout videos for beginners all the way up to seasoned
vets. The app also offers four-week training programs at a variety of
fitness levels for getting lean, more toned, or stronger. Nike Training Club
is available for free on Android and iOS.

Another option is Fitbit Coach, a free and paid workout platform owned by
Fitbit that offers guided video workouts and customized fitness plans. The
app was recently revamped to include hundreds of new workout videos and
integration with Fitbit trackers.
You can do the basics for free, or upgrade to a premium Fitbit Coach
membership -- which gives you access to unlimited personalized workouts --
for $40 a year.
If you want a fitness class environment from home, try ClassPass Live. This
service streams prerecorded fitness classes to your TV, via a Chromecast.
You wear an included heart rate monitor during the classes, which tells you
if you're pushing your body too hard or not enough. ClassPass Live costs $79
up front for the Chromecast and heart-rate monitor, plus $19 per month for
access to unlimited classes.

Run-tracking apps
If running is your go-to choice of exercise, it's essential to keep track of
your workouts. Keeping a log can keep you motivated, track your progress,
help you understand how many calories you burn and even offer guidance.

Apps like Strava, RunKeeper, Nike+ Run Club, MapMyRun and Runtastic can be
helpful for runners with years of

2019-04-18 Thread Angus MacKinnon
My iMac is using OS 10.14.4 (Mojave). Why in the default mail app, I do a CMD +
Q to quit and mail stays open. So, I CMD + TAB back into mail and do a CMD + 1
for the general mailbox and mail finally closes. Why does mail not just close
when doing a CMD + Q?

Have you tried turning off VoiceOver for approximately 10 seconds.
Then restart VO. Sometimes this sorts this issue. You’ll find yourself on the

You may have to launch recovery and try again.

closed the lid sometime during the install process. Now, all Voice Over says
in the Fred voice is, "install reminder has no windows" It's been like that
for hours.

If anyone has any idea what I might try, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hi Lister,

I thought this might be of interest for some, Mark T for one.

I’ve just been playing with an app for the iPhone,
called “Code Swift”,

It’s a very cool little app that breaks Swift coding down to chapters
And gives you error break downs and if needed video help from the developer of
the application.

It’s free and so far very easy to follow.
I don’t know if there is an iPad version but this is a great option if you
don’t have one or don’t want to take your tablet with you.

Check it out and enjoy

On my Mac book Pro running L-capitan, it’s option+home to jump to beginning and
option+end to jump to end. home is pressed on Mac book pro by pressing FN+left
and end is pressed by pressing FN+right. Make sure you set your function keys
to operate as function keys though.

requesting help jumping to the end of a file using Amadeus Pro on a macbook

2019-04-18 Thread Michael Marshall
Hey all,
I’m just wondering if anyone can help me with an Amadeus Pro shortcut on a
MacBook pro.
I have only started using the pro after bing on a desktop for many years.
I use Amadeus Pro a lot as part of my work and one of the things I love to do
is jumping to the end of a file to add recordings.
On the desktop the command was if I remember, option function and end.
If anyone can help me with this jumping to end or any other tips for a MacBook,
I would be very grateful to you.

Thanks

Michael
