Re: Weather app

2020-01-13 Thread Mary Otten
Thanks for reminding me about whether office. I had that app on android. It was
a good straightforward app there, and it seems to bethe same on iOS. I just
downloaded it. It looks like it doesn’t do notifications, so I guess an app
like whether Gods would fill in that gap.

I agree. The one drawback to Weather Office, is that it only works for
locations within the 50 states of the US.

Re: i'm having problems updating my MacBook Pro retina 2014 that's mid2014 to Catalina

2020-01-13 Thread 'Dan' via MacVisionaries
hello list and everyone who's help.

well, here's the outcome of my situation.

I did contact Apple today. We went through several procedures and I wasn't able
to update to Catalina. however, Mojave is still on the system now.

Apple suspects there is something wrong internally in my computer because they
stated that it should upgrade to Catalina with no problems.

Even when Apple was helping me, they got the same error that I got in that the
system was not properly configured.

The suggestion is that I should take it to an Apple store and have it looked at
to see what's wrong with it.

However I decided not to do that, because I don't wanna spend any additional
money on this computer. For the more because we don't drive we have to get
somebody to take us to a store.

They however did not mention about sending us a box to send it in so at this
point I'm gonna leave it at that.

Thanks everybody for helping.

Hi,

We're not always cold, just depends on what part of winter we're in. Not a
heck of a lot of daylight right now either, although it's getting better every
day. Summer is awesome. Nice and warm, often hot, and daylight for over 18
hours a day, even better further north than where I am. Chicago probably gets
more snow than we do, is a lot windier and more humid. Tons more people too.

yeah. my brother-in-law near Chicago loves winter and doesn't like summer even

Re: app to easily record video on the Mac?

2020-01-13 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Is it too big to save, or is it erring out before you even get to the save part
of things? If the former, you should be able to use the "Export" menu item
under file to set it to, maybe, 480P which is a less Hi-Resolution video.

Hi Brad,

"Enjoy" may be a misleading verb. "Tolerate" might be more appropriate. Looks
like we're stuck with this garbage for the rest of the week too. Supposed to
go down to -39 tomorrow night, don't even care to know the "Feels Like" temp.
Oh well, it's not usually this bad for too many days/weeks in a row. Not this
cold everywhere in Canada either, just us northern and prairie folk that get it
the worst. 60 F would be shorts weather now :). People who say that it
doesn't snow when it's this cold, haven't lived up here. I spent three hours
yesterday outside shovelling. Oh well, enough complaining. Enjoy your north
Texas weather, and I hope it doesn't feel cold to you.

Re: Books App on the Mac

2020-01-13 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi Tim,
Yes, all of my audio books were purchased through the iTunes book store. I do
remember on Mojave I had to find my purchases and download them again into
iTunes and once I upgraded those downloaded books obviously came over to the
books app in Catalina. When I connected my phone yesterday I might have been
doing it wrong as I tried one more time before going to work and it told me
that it couldn’t sink all of my books as my Mac wasn’t authorised. So I found
the option to authorise it and it told me that I just re-authorised it.
I tried to find my purchases in the books app but it is well hidden. I don’t
think apple made these seperate apps in Catalina very intuitive, I know people
used to complain about the old iTunes but at least we could get things done.
Now that I’ve reauthorised my Mac I might try and sink with the phone again,
but not sure if I can be bothered today as I spent most of yesterday getting
frustrated with the hole thing.

hello list,

So what I have is Yosemite 10.10.5.

I log into the App Store downloaded Catalina, but I am unable to install it.

Reason it says my system is not configured properly. And by the way I couldn't
read this with voiceover somebody sided had to tell me this.

So it tells me my system is configured properly but it doesn't tell me how to
configure it or where to go to get the information to configure it.

So it looks like I'm probably stuck with Yosemite on this machine.

Any more suggestions.

And by the way guys I appreciate everyone's help.

Re: Weather app

2020-01-13 Thread Brad Snyder
No, it definitely does not feel cold here to me. It is not always this
moderate here in January. Friday night andSaturday morning, we had sleet and
snow here, but the ground was warm, so it was gone quickly.
As they say, if you don’t like the weather in Texas, wait a few minutes, and it
will change; except in the summer, when it is just plain hot.

Oh well, it's not usually this bad for too many days/weeks in a row. Not this

Re: Weather app

2020-01-13 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Hi Mary,

I have Weather Gods, but mostly use the Weather app on my phone. I'm not having
any of the issues you describe. I always have a temperature reading, and the
weather is as accurate as any. On the rare occasions when I have seen strange
behavior, re-selecting the city solved the problem. Just click Edit Cities, and
re-select your city.
HTH,
Donna

Re: Weather app

2020-01-13 Thread Lorie McCloud
I have that trouble with the native weather app too where it's blank. what I
usually do then is close ithit the home button twice for app switcher and close
it from there. then when I reopen it again it has temperature and all the other
stuff that's supposed to be on there.

RE: Weather app

2020-01-13 Thread Simon A Fogarty
I just go out side,
If it’s raining I’ll get wet,
If its sunny I put on sun screen.

In the case of yesterday I used the IOs weather app and it was 1 degree Celsius
out,
But hey at 32 degrees C,
Who cares about 1 degree,

It’s just called hot!

can’t remember if I had to pay for it, but if I did, it wasn’t much and it was

Hi Dan,

I don't believe that you're stuck with Yosemite. To confirm, could you go to
the Apple menu, to About This Mac and let me know exactly what it says about
your Mac. That is, amount of memory, MacOS version, Mac model if available on
that screen. If it's not on that screen, you may need to get it under the
System Information button. I realize that you've already mentioned some of
this info, but I need to confirm.

Second thing. Do you have an external USB HD or anything like that so we can
see about installing things on it as a temporary step? Thanks.

Hello Mark and list,

Thanks.
Now, I need to reformat the SSD, because I really messed it up.
How do I get a complete download on-line.

If I restart the MBP with one of the other options such as Command Option r,
will this allow me to get a new OS? I asked, because I read some stuff on Apple
and when I followed the instructions, I wound up with Os 10.10.
I suppose I need to talk with Apple. The closest store is 100 miles away and
neither of us drive.
I'd also be willing to discuss this with some one over the phone if any one is
interested in directing me.
I've never messed up a SSD like I did this time.
The other thing is this. I really don't want to put a lot of money into this,
because the battery is starting to go. But it would really be nice if I could
keep it running a while longer.
Later.

I am sorry to contradict you. Unfortunately, most Kindle books have been
purchased, whether for cost or free, so are right-protected to Kindle. If
this is the case, the books are not transferable to any other app.

Is there anyway to get a Kindle book into Apple Books? I think I know the
answer, but thought I’d ask. I want to take a Kindle book that I have an iOS
and somehow imported into Apple Books and the Mac because Apple Books on the
Mac gives greater granularity for reading For example, y sentence by paragraph
etc. where is iOS you have to either listen to continuous reading or finger
scroll line by line.
