Mary and Donna,
Thank you both. That RBK 50 was one I was checking out on Amazon.

Converting a USB flatbed scanner to a Wireless Scanner

2020-04-09 Thread Dave Carlson
Seeing some discussion about Netgear and networks, brings up something I’ve
wanted to do.

I have an Epson GT2500 Flatbed scanner that’s about 15 years old, and only has
a USB connection to a computer. So it’s connected to my studio workstation. I’d
like to access this scanner from my Mac and my wife’s Mac. All our computers
access our home network on our Apple AirPort Extreme router.

So my question is: What device or dongle do I need so that I plug my scanner
USB wire into it, and then it is now a device on my network that can be used by
any of the computers? It needs to have a USB A port on it and needs to connect
to our home network wirelessly.

Okay, thanks. I have an Office 365 subscription, but the actual apps are

Re: Microsoft word on the Mac.

2020-04-09 Thread maurice mines
Hello Mr. Carlson, yes that is correct let me explain. When you have office 365
you have the choice of either using the web version of an application or the
version of the application that you actually install. Or at least that’s the
way it was initially. These days I believe it is only the application install.
The difference they were blind users is huge. If you use the web version of the
application a screen reader can’t figure out where exact because it’s all based
on a webpage. If it’s on the computer, then of course the screenreader is based
on what’s presented to it locally. So to some of my answers yes I use a local
version of the application but the subscription really is to office 365. I have
the five device pack. That means that I can use Windows, Mac, a tablet if I
wish, and even a smart phone if I wish. Because all of those devices are
natively covered by my subscription. However I believe the tablet and the phone
are restricted to the web version not the installed version. Now that I think
about it, the phone does use and version meant for the phone. But I think the
tablet version is indeed a webpage. All versions have the account pain. It
basically shows the fact that you are using one seat of the license. I hope
this clarification, and explanation helps?

And closing I’ve been using office three $0.65 late 2015.

Sincerely Maurice Mines.

Re: Ios 13.4.1

2020-04-09 Thread Karen Lewellen

Jason,
You raise an issue that frankly baffles me.
why is it not possible for an individual to choose a single operating
system and have their needs met from an accessibility standpoint?
why is it an acceptable situation to need multiple devices in various
systems to complete tasks.

It certainly was not always the case.
I can respect having a laptop or desktop and also a phone or tablet, but
those should work in harmony with each other if that makes sense. and
the accessibility should be consistent on those devices regardless
of program being used.
I have no idea where the concept of creating a single program to manage a
single task then incorporating accessibility in came from, perhaps the
windows arena.
Still as someone pointed out earlier in this thread Google believes that
controlling punctuation should not be something a user can do on the
Android platform. Yet text to speech is not a screen reader, with google
failing to understand this a major concern.
as you note, most of the individuals meeting with accessibility will not
have the technological ability to figure things out..so will simply
believe access is an impossibility in general.
However such complacency about what access is expected to do in part
started with the population benefiting from that access, not demanding
that a screen reader tool work uniformly across the board much the way
in theory the physical functions the adaptive tool enhances work in the
human body.

Kare
Who frankly wonders on average how many machines an individual using
adaptive technology owns?

2020-04-09 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Tim,

Hoping for a few more tips.

I followed the directions and went to System prefs and selected printers and I
checked the share check box.

But when we go to the print button on a iOS device under print it says select
printer but nothing shows up.

Any next steps?

I did restart both the computer, printer, and iOS Device.

Re: Ios 13.4.1

2020-04-09 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Did anyone think that maybe we’re all expecting more and more out of our smart
devices and there are so many third party apps out there that are trying to
cater to our needs that the likes of Apple and the other phone manufactures
like the android phones are having to update and week the software so often to
try and keep things running smoothly. It’s going to be dam near impossible to
get it perfect all the time.

Re: Books App on IOS

2020-04-09 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Your welcome Paul,
I did reply all this time so hopefully my reply will go to the entire list. I
should thank you as I probably wouldn’t have looked at the settings more
closely if you hadn’t have asked. I’d given up trying to read the user guides
in the book app, but I might see what else is available to read now.

Re: Microsoft word on the Mac.

2020-04-09 Thread maurice mines
Hello, I use Microsoft Word for the Mac practically on a daily basis. The ways
that I’ve made it work for me, is by first going to that ribbon. I stop
interacting with it then I get to the point where it will show me the text
that’s currently in the document. I interact with that and I’m able to read the
document. At least that’s a whole lot better than Microsoft Word to the max
started out back in 2016. Back then it wasn’t usable for very much other than
you could create a document but you had to leave it in draft mode. Today’s
version at least is usable and all of its modes.

When I talk about my experience with Microsoft Word to the math I want to be
clear that it is the version that is actually on the local machine. Not the web
version of Microsoft Word which I believe still is virtually inaccessible. And
when I deal with documents that I create an word on the Mac and read them in
the version of the same program and Windows live had very few compatibility
issues.

For extremely short Word documents, such as the signature file or something of
that nature. I can even use TextEdit or doubt in terms of reading it. I’m going
to include my signature file which actually is a Word document just as an
example. Please note however my signature file is not an endorsement or
discrediting my position which the file mentions. I did not write the actual
text of the file. But in order to make it work for me I converted the document
that was originally in HTML format into a Word document for use as an email
signature. In addition I use word for the Mac for most of not all of my
academic work that requires the use of Microsoft Word. And ideas it depending
on how long the document is for meeting assignments. Yes I think there could be
many improvements to the Mac product but it is at least functional right now
and can be used easily.

So here’s the file. Remember this is just for an example. Of a Word document.
Although I did not write this document, I am responsible for its layout since I
had to make a few adjustments. Thank you very much in advance for reading this.
Everyone stay safe and if possible stay where you are. Have other nice day.

Please note, the above text of this email have spent dictated to the computer
using dictation software. If there are portions of my writing that are not
understandable and/or have grammatical syntax and/or other errors, those errors
may be the result of either the software, or the dictation process. If there’s
something that you truly don’t understand please contact me and I will do my
very best to clear up any misunderstandings.

2020-04-09 Thread Eric Brinkman
I agree with Andrew. Apple's quality control has been deteriorating
ever since Steve died and it's not just accessibility. There have
been countless posts on sites like MacWorld documenting bugs that have
been reported for years with no fixes. However I can't justify
switching to Android because it seems to have quite a few
accessibility issues of its own.

2020-04-09 Thread joseph hodge
You are free to go to a OS and device that meats your needs then. You gave no
reasoning to why your fed up or why Apple doesn’t care.

I find bugs the new text editing boxes where there isn’t edit boxes for one but
every OS has bugs we have to deal with. Android for one still can’t read all
punctuation which should be on every screen reader as an option. I left Apple
for a bit and came back some times we have to evaluate things and see how they
are. Hope you find what your looking for.

Re: Networking my printer, can I go through my Mac?

2020-04-09 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Definitely. Go to System Preferences, Printers & Scanners, select the printer,
then V-right to the "share this Printer" checkbox and check it. Basically,
that's all you need to do although you can go into the Options & Supplies
section if you wish to modify its name. As long as your computer is turned on
an connected to that network, others will be able to print to it through your
Mac.

Books App on IOS

2020-04-09 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
After some very helpful offline Email conversation with Petrus Tuerling I have
learnt:
a) It is no longer possible to export a complete book from the books app on IOS
to Voice Dream Reader;
b) the books app on IOS is much more responsive if you turn off scrolling view.
To do this open the book of interest, double tap Appearance, 1 finger flick
right to scrolling view and turn it off.
Many thanks to Petrus for this tip … Paul Hopewell

Yes I find when using word on the Mac that it is less responsive and it does
not always respond to commands to move by para etc so I typically still use
pages but do use word for a couple of things - normally sharing files to one
drive for collaborative working with peers. Interestingly I find the IPAD
versions of ms office much better than the desktop versions.

2020-04-09 Thread Anders Holmberg
Hi!
I have updated to 13.4.1 but doesn’t see anything improving.
But since i just watched Louis Rossman on youth be i get more sceptical about
the building of the apple products.
He’s an apple repair tech so i guess he knows what he’s talking about.
