Concept of Start-Stop Interacting?

2020-12-08 Thread Fazil
Hi. Group.

I am new to Mac and am having hard time grasping the concept of start-stop
interacting.

I'd appreciate if someone could explain this concept to me in layman's
terms.

Thanks!

Re: Mac connected to Amazon Echo

2020-12-08 Thread 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries
Hi Fazil. Do you have the Amazon A L E X A app on your phone? If so, find your
device in the app and select bluetooth. Once there, have the app start scanning
for Bluetooth devices. Next, on your Mac launch system preferences and select
the bluetooth preference pain. VO Right Arrow until you see a table. This
should have all your Bluetooth capable devices so interact with the table and
look for your Echo. If you're running Big Sur, activate the actions menu by
pressing VO+Command+Spacebar and select pair. And if you have any other
questions about your Mac or Echo, I have groups in Whatsapp that you can join.
Info is in my signature.

Re: Recorded demo on my M1

2020-12-08 Thread Muhammad Fayed
Regarding the Touch Bar, mentioned earlier in the conversation

1. On windows, with NVDA, you can Toggl keyboard help (or whatever its name)
that tells what’s under your finger. I use it with NVDA + 1, and search for
volume up (for example), then Toggle it back off, and press the volume up.

To make things faster, I try where are these buttons relative to numbers. It
works for me because I depend mainly no F.J keys to know where am I on the
keyboard.

2. There are no design changes in current version of M1 Macs (just to
illustrate clearly the difference between Intel and Apple Silicon).

3. Could you please explain why it is hated? It’s better for me because I don’t
need to remember which button does what on specific application or when we
press/ not press function key.

May be because it is slower in performing basic tasks like increasing volume,
play/pause music, adjust brightness, ….etc???

And thank you again Joseph for the review. 

HTH,

Regards,

Mohamed E. Fayed

There are hacks out already to run Windows Insider on the M1 Macintosh
computers. I highly doubt they would work with JAWS or NVDA though, and reports
I have read do say that memory can run out and cause performance issues when
running this.

Can I connect Mac to Alexa? If yes, how can that be done, please?
Thanks!

I’ve noticed when doing this, that on my end anyhow, the sound is so low that I
practically have to max the volume on both my computer/echo dot in order to
hear the sound out of it. Has anyone else had this issue, and/know what the
cause is for it?

2020-12-08 Thread joseph hodge
I just side loaded Bard Mobile and it works listened to 3 chapters in a book.
This is cool previously I was using Airfoil and airfoil satellite to broadcast
to my Mac from my iPhone. It could be the fact I had my iPhone connected to my
Mac but battery has dropped a little quicker today my assumption being that
maybe because I'm running apps not optimized for the Mac.

I did try a Blind Fold game and it behaved poorly. I think do to gestures not
caring over between the two Voiceovers could be a reason. For some reason I
wasn’t able to choose a different voice from the default and couldn’t speed
them up. Once playing the game voices started sounding strange. I believed this
is do to Mac system voices maybe. It wasn’t. A good experience.

I’m sure you also know that you can raise and lower the system volume using VO
+ NumberRow minus/equal. (These are the 2 keys located immediately to the left
of the Backspace/Delete key.

Did you know: Holding down the Fn key, will cause the Backspace/Delete key to
perform as a Forward Delete key.

Thanks, Brad. I knew about the number keys, but not the FN-Tab.

F-key Alternative on TouchBar Macs

2020-12-08 Thread Brad Snyder
For those using a MacBook Pro with TouchBar, VoiceOver commands that utilize
the F-keys, can be initiated by pressing the FN key, along with the VO modifier
and NumberRow keys.
For example, Fn + VO + NumberRow 8, can be used to open the VoiceOver Utility.
Fn + VO + NumberRow 1 twice, can be used to open the Application Chooser menu,
and Fn + VO + NumberRow 2 twice, will open the Window Chooser menu.

Here is a bonus: since the pre-2020 TouchBar MacBook Pros do not have a
physical Escape key, an alternative is to press the Fn key along with the Tab
key, which will act as a physical Escape key.

HTH.

Fazil,

Open Voiceover utility with vo+f8, then arrow down to the category “speech”,
then find the table of active voices, you may only have one as I understand
your setup. Interact with it with vo+shift+down arrow, find the edit button.
Press it & this should open the window where you can configure your voice. You
may have to at some point expand the dialog so listen out for the item which
says collapsed. Press vo+spacebar on it to expand it. Now as you move through
the dialog you can adjust the various parameters. You need to choose the same
voice for system voice, keyboard voice, etc. This should help you. You need
to press ok button at the end of the dialog to save the changes.

John Grouber of Daring Fireball fame has said that with his M1 MacBook Pro, he
could only get the fan to come on when he had 50 Google Chrome tabs open, and
was doing video processing. He was so surprised by this that he contacted
others with review products to make sure his system did not have a broker heat

(Don't blame me for the titles that John uses)
Also, David Woodbridge talked about never getting a busy while testing his M1
machine with for Vision Australia.

In conclusion, unless you are doing A/V encoding or trying to compile your own
version of Firefox, the performance between the Air and the Pro is not
noticeable. One thing I am not sure about, is if the USB-C ports are
equivalent between the two systems. the PRO can support the Apple $8000
display, and I don't remember that being mentioned for the Air.

Best wishes,

Re: One Voice Only In Mac?

2020-12-08 Thread Dave Carlson
Fazil,
I also have the touch strip. I just used the VO+k keyboard help to identify the
location of f5, f8, and f12. I then used a small adhesive dot just above each
location to help me orient when I wanted to use the function keys. Works just
fine.

Re: Recorded demo on my M1

2020-12-08 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
That's interesting. I had an Air, then upgraded to the Pro, and have since
wished I'd just stuck with the Air. I would go with the 512, so that would give
me the extra core. Kind of leaning that way at the moment.
Cheers,
Donna

The Cheapest air also only has a 7 core processor which again may or may not
affect anything. If you step up to the 512 version they do give you the extra
core so you have the 8. I wanted to go fanless but decided ultimently to go
with the pro. The Touch Bar doesn’t bother me to much I can work around it. It
was a bigger deal in Bootcamp but now we can’t do that anyway lol. Probably the

that the air used to give me busy busy and get so hot LOL. If you decide to get
one let me know what you decide it's pretty cool the battery life is

RE: One Voice Only In Mac?

2020-12-08 Thread Fazil
Thanks much, Mr. Lamanche.

My MacBook-Pro 2017 does not have physical Function Keys, it got a touch strip,
do we have any alternate for F8?

Thanks!

Can I keep just one voice, Samantha?

If yes, how can I do that, please?

The absence of a fan can affect the MacBook Air’s performance when doing
processor intensive tasks, which may or may not be a concern depending on how
one intends to use their MacBook computer.

Re: Mac connected to Amazon Echo

2020-12-08 Thread Jessica Moss
I’ve noticed when doing this, that on my end anyhow, the sound is so low that I
practically have to max the volume on both my computer/echo dot in order to
hear the sound out of it. Has anyone else had this issue, and/know what the
cause is for it?

Re: Recorded demo on my M1

2020-12-08 Thread 'Donna Goodin' via MacVisionaries
Nice video, Joe. Thanks for doing this. I've been on the fence about whether to
upgrade my Mac or my iPad. I tend to think of my Mac as a work device and my
iPad as a fun device, so was glad to see you focus on how iPad apps work on the
Mac

One question. Does the 13-inch pro have a touch bar oor function keys? If I
upgrade my Mac, I'm determined to lose the touch bar. lol
Cheers,
Donna

Re: help with mac mail

2020-12-08 Thread 'Kawal Gucukoglu' via MacVisionaries
Hi Zoe.

Hope you are well and glad to know that you are progressing with your Mac.

Well, you were talking about previous recipients. If you have your contacts
up-to-date and you wish to empty your previous recipients as I do from time to
time, you can do the following. I don’t know how to make this work on the I
phone but I wish you could.

When you are in your email folder with your cursor in the inbox, please do Vo M
to find the menu bar and then vo right arrow until you here the word Window.

2. When you hear the word window, Vo arrow down as this will open the menu
and you have 17 items.

3. Keep arrowing down with VO down arrow until you hear previous recipients.

4. Vo space on previous recipients.

5. Here is a table where all the recipients you have ever written to.

6. You can select with command A and press the delete key which will empty the
whole table.

7. Before you do this, you can Vo Right arrow and see other options in this
menu as you can add emails to your contacts or remove individual names. You
can also select line by line how many names you’d like to remove from the table
just as if you were doing so in windows with shift key down arrow.

I hope you and others find this information useful.

Thank you very much.

Kawal.

 Hello,
Your first issue is because of "recent recipients". You probably replied
to a message from Donna, and since it actually went to the list, apple
added her name and the macvisionaries address to your recent recipient
list. If you open contacts and create a contact for the Macvisionaries
list with the e-mail address, then Macintosh Mail should put your Alias
 name there instead of Donna.

In terms of the Junk folder, in BigSir, they hide the "All
