Re: Access to a Drive on My Wi-Fi Server

Tim,
Are you saying to look at the Airport Utility on the iPhone, and the disk tab?
I opened Airport Utility on the Mac and do not find any tab for the disks. What

Voiceover reading pages in pdf documents twice

2021-09-29 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Has anyone noticed a very odd behaviour of Voiceover when reading pdf documents
either in Preview or when Safari opens them on the web? Voiceover reads each
page of a pdf document twice. This is very annoying and totally unnecessary.
Could you confirm?

Re: Autochange Language?

2021-09-29 Thread 'Andrew Lamanche' via MacVisionaries
Hello Zoe,

As I’ve said already, I’ve been reporting this problem to Apple accessibility
for over 5 years, since High Sierra came out. They’ve asked me repeatedly the
same questions, I’ve provided the answers, I’ve sent them samples of Voiceover
behaviour repeatedly and still they haven’t fixed this. I feel utterly
abandoned and mocked by them by now. I often switch to Windows to be able to
read and enjoy Greek but this is a kick in the teeth as I’ve invested so much
in the Apple products.

Thanks for your feedback. I shall continue to report to Apple accessibility
but I’m losing hope.

RE: English Keyboard Disappeared?

2021-09-29 Thread Fazil
Thanks much, Jonathan, I do appreciate for your help.

I took my macbook to Genius bar and he finished up the process that I left
unfinished. I had him add four Arabic keyboards along with English one. It was
so noisy in the store that I could not check the affects of the changes. When I
came home, I realized that I could switch the keyboard on the fly but certain
keyboards of Arabic were not recognized by Voiceover, I mean Voiceover did not
read them. I felt like I have lost the English keyboard.

So, This morning, I have removed the additional Arabic keyboard and kept just
one.

Now my life is at ease and everything is hunky-dorry! Ctrl-space toggles the
keyboard, English-Arabic and vise versa and no fuss! *smile*.

Thanks again.

Hello,

You indicated that you were unable to finish. I expect what you are saying was
that you could not find something in the instructions and not that you ran out
of time.

When you are in the input area of system preferences that we have been
discussing, are you having issues navigating the table of input types? One
thing that does get confusing on this page is that a HTML representation of the
keyboard layout is presented and this is very difficult to navigate if you are
using VoiceOver. Although email is hard to have interactive discussions,
perhaps if you let us know where you are getting stuck, we can find work
arounds so you can get everything set up the way you want.

Jonathan

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Thanks much, Jonathan.

I followed your instructions last week but could not finish it. The Genius bar
told me that Arabic keyboars are already there. I said yes I tried to add it
but could not finish it. So he fixed it and told me how to switch the keyboard.

Now, I guess, I can not do anything because English keyboard is not available.

Thanks!

Here is some text I sent you last week via this list. I guess you didn't read
it.

Oh, and by the way

1. Open System Preferences

2. Open the view menu and select keyboard

3. Press the Input Sources button

4. Press the add button

5. Select "Arabic" from the list that comes up.

6. Check the checkbox to display language input in the menu bar.

7. There will now be a bunch of options discussing Left to Right and Right to
Left text, you will probably need to change the shortcuts listed here but I
don't understand them. I would think that just selecting the appropriate
language input from the language menu would be all that you need.

Best wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Safari busy again on big sur 11.6

2021-09-29 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Strange, I have not experienced this with either my Catalina system or my
public beta system with Safari 15. I wonder if it is the sites, or the
computer.
Best wishes,

Re: English Keyboard Disappeared?

2021-09-29 Thread Jonathan Cohn
Hello,
You indicated that you were unable to finish.

Re: Autochange Language?

2021-09-29 Thread FIOGKOS
Hi Andrew, hope you are well, I have 27 inch iMac late 2013 and an iPhone 8
plus. My Mac is running Catalina because it will not take any newer update. On
my iPhone 8 plus the Greek language works just fine. On the Mac running
Catalina the Greek does not work. The Greek voice reads characters but not
words and lines. I called apple accessibility about this. They had me record
what’s happening on my Mac with the Greek language they got back to me saying
they need more information and want to do another recording of my
Mac/screen/voiceover/Greek voice and how things work. When they called me I was
unavailable and sent them an email replying back that I would be available a
day later at a certain time. They never got back to me and I plan to call them
again.
Open till this issue I have been very happy with apple accessibility, however
with the language issue I feel like they left me hanging.
I’m not giving up I will try again.
It is absolutely necessary for me to have the Greek language working on the
Mac, so I hope they will fix it soon.

Re: Access to a Drive on My Wi-Fi Server

2021-09-29 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi Dave,

I’m assuming that you’re following the instructions from Apple found at:

https://support.apple.com/en-ca/guide/iphone/iph8d8f0f1a0/ios

I used these instructions to connect to a server at work with the Files app
with no difficulty. Do you know what format the drive is? MacOS Extended
(Journaled), APFS, NTFS etc.? Am I right to assume that you connect just fine
with your Mac? If yes, the Mac should essentially give you the same set of
dialogs to deal with. That is, Server address, username and password, and
specific volume. I will test at home when I get home tonight to see if I
experience any difficulties when accessing my similarly connected drives to the
Extreme.

Access to a Drive on My Wi-Fi Server

2021-09-29 Thread Dave Carlson
I have a SSD drive connected to my AirPort Extreme that I use for storing
backup files from my Mac. It is accessed using a 192.168.0.#
I would like to also be able to access these files using my iPhone. I thought
it would simply be a matter of using the files app and setting my server
location. But it tells me that this operation is not valid.
Is there a better way to do this, rather than using the files app?

Re: IPhone SE 2020 (2nd generation)

2021-09-29 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

It sounds to me that you’re making it more complicated than it actually is.
When you pull out your iPhone to do the double-press of the side button, simply
make sure that it is facing you and the face recognition will happen instantly,
then move the iPhone over beside the reader like you do when using your
finger-print. Really, it’s not complicated at all, just slightly different.
As Dave mentioned, if the “Attention Aware” feature is disabled, which is the
recommendation when VO is on, then you should have no difficulties
authenticating with Face ID.

Yeah, I have to agree with Dave on this one. Though as I wrote in my earlier
post, there are definitely things I dislike about face ID, other than the
situations I mentioned before, I don’t have any trouble getting it to unlock.
Cheers,
Doonna

 Hello,

I’ve decided to upgrade from iphone 8 to iphone SE 2nd generation

Re: IPhone SE 2020 (2nd generation)

2021-09-29 Thread Dave Carlson
Well Shawn, there are many reasons for why one would not update to new iPhone
hardware. But for simply not wanting to make use of Face ID for that seems
different. You may not be aware of the attention aware feature, that does not
require you stare exactly into the phone to unlock. My iPhone unlocks
immediately when it’s pointing anywhere near my face.
Good luck.

Hey Dave. I'm finally able to send a reply to your message from last week
because I've reactivated my Apple One subscription. Anyway, the reason I don't
like Face ID is because it seems like it's too complicated. Especially seeing
as how I use Apple Pay every day. From what I've heard, you have to double
press the side button, aim the phone at your face which I'm not good at doing
at all, then aiming the phone at the debit machine to finalize the purchase.
With touch ID, all I have to do is aim my phone at the machine and use touch
ID. Now granted, I could use my Apple Watch which is what I've been doing ever
since I got it, but what if I have to leave my watch at home because it's
charging? That would mean that I would have to struggle with Face ID which I
have no patience to learn how to use. So until Apple forces me to upgrade, I'm
going to stick with my iPhone SE 2020.

Regards,
Shawn,
