2021-10-31 Thread Brad Snyder
I am referring to the Amazon iOS app, But I don't purchase music from Amazon.
I'm just saying The app is a lot better than trying to navigate their website.

RE: buying digital music

2021-10-31 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Lorie,

I completely agree with you; I always buy any song that I like, for the same
purpose as you described.

Also like you, I experience nothing but frustration when searching for songs on
Amazon, these days. It's quite a shame because, once upon a time, Amazon made
it so easy to search, sample, and purchase music.

However, like Apple, Amazon wants people to subscribe to its music service
rather than purchase music.

While I have purchased many television episodes, series, and movies from
iTunes, it has been over 12 years since last I purchased a song from Apple.

I’ve never found it necessary to do a clean install.
I just do the regular update, and I’ve never had a problem, plus all my

buying digital music

2021-10-31 Thread Lorie McCloud
I still mostly buy my music. I like to have it in my computer and put it
wherever else I want it. I looked up an album I want on Amazon and I just can't
figure out that system any more. it's got so much clutter the only thing I
can't find in there is what I'm looking for. it's just amazing how convoluted
it has become. is there anything that can be done to make it more manageable on
a Mac?

so then I looked up this album on iTunes using my phone. I found it pretty
quickly and could read all the song titles but I don't know how to buy it. I
couldn't find a "buy" button or anything of that sort. could this be done on my
Mac? is it easier now that osx has separated music from movies podcasts and
books?

thanks.

Hi,

When in the scroll area for the playlist, interact with the Header group.
There will be a text field with the current name of the playlist. This is an
editable field. Rename it there.

Subject: how to download a youtube video

Hello,
I belong to a philosophy discussion group which meets in our local library.
From time to time we would like to show a philosophy related youtube video in
this location where we have no Internet access.
Can anyone recommend a VO friendly way to download a youtube video to an iPhone
or iPad which we can then play via an appropriate lightning adapter and an HDMI
cable on a TV in the location? We will only need to do this about once every
month or so and hence need a low cost or no cost solution.
I also have an iMac and if I could download the youtube video to that I could
then move it to the iPhone or iPad. All are running the latest software. Many
thanks for any tips.
Best regards … Paul Hopewell

Actually,
Pontse Media downloader is a free app for the Mac and windows that can download
YouTube videos and convert them to audio or allow you to download the original
video.
https://blindhelp.net/software/ponce-media-downloader
the official page for this program is https://www.pontes.ro/en/scripts/#pmd.

The easiest way if you want the actual video is to subscribe to Youtube
premium. One of the benefits besides no commercials is the ability to download
videos in the app for offline playback. It’s about $10 a month. You just open
the video you want and there’s a download button.

Re: Major problem with Monterey installer if you use vo.

There should have been no reason to purchase a mouse from Apple. Any mouse
will do. I have several around the house. I just used one that was in my
desk. It was no big deal once I figured out what I needed to do.

Hello,
This might be a major bug in your view, but it is by definition not a
regression. This occurred for me in Big Sur, so it is not a issue brought on by

how to download a youtube video

2021-10-31 Thread Paul Hopewell
Hello,
I belong to a philosophy discussion group which meets in our local library.

Re: A problem with Monterey

2021-10-31 Thread matthew dyer
Hi,

Not seeing this here. First off, what kind of Mac are you using? MBP? Air, or
something else. Also, are you using an intelligent or M1? I find that if
doing a clean install of any major os clears up; any problems that might come
up.

Hello,
Use the command vo plus command plus spacebar when you hear the calendar
announcement. This will bring up a list of actions you can take on the
notification. You can then arrow down to close and select it. This should make
the notification go away.

Re: Major problem with Monterey installer if you use vo.

2021-10-31 Thread matthew dyer
Hi,

I find this an accessibility regression. I went ahead and bought a mouse from
apple and connected it to my Mac mini and then did the install. It was a pain.
I feel that having a mouse just to get things going is a regression in my book.

A problem with Monterey

When I try to go into a playlist from the sidebar, Music stops responding.

2021-10-31 Thread Mickey Quenzer
You need to set up the accessibility shortcut to be voiceover if you have it
set up correctly when you see the accessibility shortcut it should say
“Accessibility ShortcutAccessibility Shortcut, VoiceOver”
If it doesn’t say that, you need to go double tap on that and look down until
you see the word voice ability voice over and double tap that item to set that
as a shortcut the shortcut is what happens when you click the side button three
times.

Hi,

You are correct in that you did not say about triple-tapping on the screen.
That was someone else who was trying to help, so I mentioned that so you did
not try to do it and find out that it wasn’t what you were looking for.

Yes, using Siri as Dave mentioned is totally an option. Alternatively, go to
Settings, Accessibility, then scroll to the bottom of this screen to the
Accessibility Shortcut item. Make sure that it is still set to toggle
VoiceOver on/off. You only want it to have VoiceOver selected, otherwise it
will bring up a menu of choices instead of simply turning off/on VoiceOver.

What I meant to say is that I used to press the home button 3 times rapidly to
disarm voice over and 4 times to turn it back on.

This allowed my sighted wife to help me create a new contact for example.

I'm not sure how by simply turning the volume of voice over up or down would be
of help in any circumstances and would still burden the sighted person by it's
interference.

Incidentally, time mentioned Serie for turning voice over off and on.

Do you mean that I'd press the home button for a few seconds, until I hear a
tone then say something like "Serie, turn voice over on" or whatever.

Thanks guys for any assistance.

Very best wishes,

Andy Logue.

Hi,

Actually, a three-finger double-tap does not toggle VoiceOver on and off. The
three-finger double-tap toggles on/off VoiceOver speech, but VoiceOver gesture
navigation remains on. This would be problematic for a sighted user as their
normal gestures would not work as expected. Therefore, you could confirm that
the Accessibility shortcut is still set correctly as Doug suggested, or you
could use Siri to turn VO on and off.

Re: Major problem with Monterey installer if you use vo.

2021-10-31 Thread Brad Snyder
By the way, this is not just an issue with macOS Monterey.
The 24 inch M1 iMac I was setting up was running macOS Big Sur.
Not sure when Apple began requiring that a mouse be connected when setting up
or upgrading a Mac, but it was definitely before macOS Monterey.

Any mouse or trackpad will work. It could be USB, Bluetooth or any thing else.
Just so it connects to the Mac and is recognized by the Mac.
Recently, when setting up a 24" M1 iMac, once I realize that I needed a mouse,
I G grabbed a Logitech wireless mouse, with one of those little dongle
things that plugs into a USB port. Once I had it connected, problem solved.

Re: Monterey Loses Voiceover?

2021-10-31 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi,
Well, what I have noticed is that when I lift the lid of my MacBook Air, I no
longer hear anything from VoiceOver about entering my password. I just touch
the power button as I have Touch I.D enabled, and then VoiceOver comes on. I
spoke with Apple Accessibility on Friday, and many VoiceOver issues have been
reported. I also have had some difficulty with my Logitech k860 keyboard. It
does not always respond appropriately to commands I type. Turning off the
keyboard and then turning it back on usually resolves any issues I have. I
called Logitech and after the rep checked, he informed me that the Logitech
keyboards are not totally compatible with Monterey. An update is supposed to be
released by Logitech between November 10-15.
Best,

Les

Re: Monterey Loses Voiceover?

2021-10-31 Thread Jeff Berwick
Hi there,

Since Big Sur, on an Apple M1 chip computer, I have had Voiceover crash all the
time. I have gone into Voiceover preferences and reset all Voiceover
preferences and it has solved that issue.

A new issue, in Monterey is that, when your computer goes to sleep and requires
a password, Voiceover doesn’t always come on and it doesn’t always play the
clicks to indicate that you are typing in your password.

Try entering your password and hitting enter and see what results you get.

Hth,
Jeff

Re: Turning Voiceover On at startup

2021-10-31 Thread Brad Snyder
See the following to enable VoiceOver at the Mac’s log in screen.

- Brad -

Setting VoiceOver to Speak on the Mac's Login Screen

Note: If you want VoiceOver to speak at the Log On screen, you must first go
to System Preferences > Security & Privacy, and disable File Vault, then do the
following steps.

IF using Big Sur, Catalina, or another recent version of macOS, do the
following to set VoiceOver to speak at the log on screen.

1. Go to System Preferences > Users & Groups.
2. Navigate to the Lock, and press VO + Spacebar, then enter your Mac’s admin
password in order to make changes.
3. Navigate to the Users, Groups & Login Options table, and interact using VO
+ Shift + DownArrow.
4. Once in the table, navigate to Login Options. This is the last item in the
table.
5. Use VO + Shift + UpArrow to stop interacting with the table.
6. Use VO + RightArrow to navigate to the button labeled Accessibility
Options, and press VO + Spacebar.
7. You have now opened a dialog box with a table containing Accessibility
Option that may be enable at the Login screen. Interact with the table using
VO + Shift + DownArrow. You will find that VoiceOver is the first item on the
list of options. Use VO + Spacebar to select this option, or any other option
you wish to enable at the Login screen.
8. Stop interacting with the table, and navigate to the Apply button, and
press VO + Spacebar. The dialog will close.
9. Press CMD + Q, to close System Preferences, and you are done.

Monterey Loses Voiceover?

2021-10-31 Thread fzlmahmood30
Hi, Group.

I am having a lot of problems with Voiceover ever since I have upgraded to
Monterey.

One of them is that Monterey does not keep voiceover active for long. After
few hours of inactivity, Voiceover does not come back and I have to restart.
Sometimes voiceover does not start with computer and I have to start it
manually.

I heard that when VO does not come up after remaining inactive for
sometimes, there is a windows popping up with some sort of image that needs
to be clicked on. Since VO does not identify this Windows, I can not do
anything.

Is it me alone having those issues?

Thanks!

Re: Trying to restore a MacBook Pro

2021-10-31 Thread 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries
Hi Dave. That crash sounds very scary. Hopefully it doesn't do that to you
again. I haven't upgraded to Monterey but I would think Voiceover would start
talking at startup like it always has. As for me, I'm still on Big Sur 11.2.3
as I like the way the Siri female voice sounds. In future versions of macOS,
they've made her sound like she does on the iPhone starting with iOS 12.
However, you people with M1 Macs are lucky as you can use the neural TTS
versions of the Siri voices with Voiceover which make them sound more natural.
So I'll be staying on 11.2.3 until Apple forces me to upgrade.

Regards,
Shawn,
