Re: strange behavior on my Mac

2021-12-27 Thread Eric Oyen
I have had this several times since 2 updates back. It appears to be a kernel
crash bug of some sort. I also have a 2012 late model Mac mini. This may be a
problem in the kernel specifically or an external trigger. One thing I noted in
the system logs was that logging would cease about 30 minutes before the crash,
which means that other system services were being impacted before the final
crash.

Amputating a Folder on External SSD

2021-12-27 Thread Dave Carlson
I have a 2 Tb drive connected to my Apple Airport Extreme that is used for Time
Machine backups on my two Mac OS and my wife’s Mac. It also serves as a
repository for iTunes, Music archives, and Photo Archives.

It is getting too full, and there is a folder called “Backups.backupdb” that
was created two years ago when I first got my Mac and connected the SSD
directly to my machine. These backups are completely useless to me, and use up
almost 50Gb of space that I could use.

When I try to delete any of the folders in this tree using Command+Delete or
Command+Option+Delete, it tries very hard to do the deleting, but I ultimately
fail to get the job done, and get the following message:

The operation can’t be completed because some items had to be skipped. For each
item, choose File > Get Info, make sure “Locked” is deselected, and then check
the Sharing & Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and
not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again.

Well, it’s a real pain to try and mark these folders as suggested, and actually
they are all not locked, and have the access set to “read and Write’ for
everyone.

So how do I just snip off this folder and not get that message above? I suspect
there’s a clever terminal command to do this, so looking forward to one of the
real tech-heads on this list to point me in the right direction.

Many thanks!

strange behavior on my Mac

2021-12-27 Thread Lorie McCloud
I've got a late 2014 Mac Mini running Catalina. twice now it has just gone dead
in the middle of doing something. today I was playing an audio file in a folder
on my Mac when it just stopped. at first I thought the file had ended but I
couldn't get a response out of my Mac no matter what I did. it was still
running but was completely unresponsive to anything I tried to do using the
trackpad and/or the keyboard. I had to push the button to turn it off and then
later restart it. what might be going on here? suggestions please.

thanks.

Re: trouble upgrading MacBook Pro 2019 to Monterey

2021-12-27 Thread Brad Snyder
I would try updating to macOS Catalina first, and then do the update to
Monterey.
If you have a problem finding the Catalina installer, contact me off list, and
I can get it to you.

HTH.

Thanks all for any suggestions you may offer.

Does anybody else have this problem? Any help is welcome.
