Hi Scott, you need the latest firmware for Bluetooth support of the Focus 40 on your Mac. For the Focus 40 blue classic, the latest firmware is 4.59. For the newer Focus 40 blue (2012 and later) it is 4.93. You will need a Windows PC to do the firmware upgrade. Greetings Jan --- MouseKick - The mice are coming! MouseKick for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
Dear MacVisionaries, I would like to point your interest to my new iOS app MouseKick. It is a game, where you have to tap appearing mice in a cheese as fast as you can. It can be played by both, sighted and visually impaired users. Apart from the nice animation, the mice also do have their individual sounds, which guide us to the right position on screen. There is a training mode to learn those sounds. To get an impression of the MouseKick-Sounds, please watch the Trailer on YouTube at: http://youtu.be/tLe4ygQA-xM You can play various game modes, in normal or in blind mode. If you know the sounds, the blind mode is a bit easier to play. The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver. I guess, this is the reason why people at Digit Eyes withdraw from such a project. They couldn't get the accuracy they wanted. On the other hand, I compare the results of the ColorVisor with a color detection device I own and find them quite comparable. If you take into account that the app is much cheaper than a special device, this method is worth a try. There is also one big advantage in using the ColorVisor for color recognition: you can scan remote object such as the sky and liquids. Generally, you have to be more careful about lights and shadows when using an app. The ColorVisor also works well on the iPod and the iPad as far as you can control the surrounding light conditions or know how to deal with it. This may sound a bit strange for a blind person to achieve, but with some practise it is possible. Of course, you have more opportunities with a torch. I hope this answer gave you some impressions. As I said, I'm not even going to try it on my iPod, as the camera on there is all but useless for anything more complex than money identification. Re: ColorVisor version 2.0 now available
Hallo Alex, I think there are two ways to achieve a calibration. First is a calibrated sensor connected via Bluetooth. The second is a samll scanning box in front of the camera where you include some known colors next to the scanning object. The camera measures both, the known colors and the object and the app could calculate correction values to calibrate itself. On the iPhone, you do not have the foll control and knowledge about the torch. Its strenght may change and you do not know the exact value. Additionally, one can not guarantee, that every torch on any device has axactly the same torch color. Greetings Jan --- ColorVisor - The app to identify colors. Re: Color visor
Hallo Mel, I'm sorry about the confusion that ColorVisor brought to you. You are right. In some cases, it is quite difficult for a blind person to distinguish between right or wrong color, since the camera is calibrating itself all the time. However, there will be an update to the ColorVisor, today, that solve this problem. I will post later this day in this list about it, giving you some more information. Yes, the ColorVisor is designed especially for the blind. I'm also blind and continiously working to improve the capabilities and the user experience of the app. If you should have further problems, hints, or questions with the upcoming version, please do not hesitate to contact me either in this list or the in-app support request or on my web site at http://visorApps.com.
