Question about Voiceover issue when starting my Macbook Pro

2023-04-03 Thread Robert Hill
Hi everyone,

Having a brain cramp on an issue starting my MacBook Pro with VoiceOver.
Somehow my settings got changed so when I start my computer I hear VoiceOver
on, then "speech off".
What keystrokes do I use to get speech turned back on?

Thanks.

Re: VO on new Mac stops speaking after I migrate my data using Time Machine

2021-05-04 Thread Robert Hill
Hi Donna,

What you might want to try is to hold down CTRl and option keys, and hit the
power button 3 times.

This should get you into a window where accessibility settings are checked or
unchedcked.

Use VO and right arrow to move through the options. VoiceOver should be the
first option. It will probably be unchecked so check it, and exit out of the
settings, and you should be on your way.

Hope it works for you.

Re: Command-Spacebar Doesn't Bring up Siri?

2021-02-12 Thread Robert Hill
Actually I can wake up Siri just fine, but when Siri responds, the voice ic cut
off right when the first syllable starts to speak.

It sounds like possibly the notification center or something might be
interfering in some way, but I haen't figured that out yet.

Thanks.

Re: Command-Spacebar Doesn't Bring up Siri?

2021-02-10 Thread Robert Hill
Hi all,

I am also having issues with Big Sur Voiceover and Siri.
When I hold Command-spacebar, I get the two chimes which lets me know Siri is
ready.
I speak my command, and let up on the spacebr.

Siri starts to speak, and is cut off immediately.

I have noticed that when attempting to use Siri voices in VoiceOver, they are
cut off also.

Not sure what to do to remedy this.

Running Big Sur version 11.2.1 on a 2013 MacBook Pro.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Big Sur has my MacBook Pro hard drive held prisoner

2020-12-04 Thread Robert Hill
Hi all,

I installed Big Sur on my MacBook Pro when it first came out.

I was having some issues that I was hoping to resolve by erasing my drive and
starting over.

When I went into disk utilities, I wasn't able to erase my drive, that option
was dimmed out.

So I went into recovery mode hoping to do the same thing.
Same results.

Where should I look to enable writing to the drive to try and get things
straightened out.

Thanks.

Having trouble with the maccessibility podcast and iTunes in Mojave

2018-09-29 Thread Robert Hill
Hi all,

I am having trouble accessing the maccessibility podcast in iTunes on my
Macintosh computer.
I am running Mojave.

I am using the following link to subscribe.
http://maccessibility.net/feed-podcast.rss

I can subscribe successfully, and can see the listing of episodes when
expandint the feed list.

However, I am not able to play episodes, or download them.

I don't have any issues with other podcast players, and I can get the podcast
to play in the podcasts app on my iPHone.

Just wondering if anyone has this issue, or if anyone can suggest ways to
correct this.

Thanks.

Bob Hill

Re: DTMF entry during a FaceTime call

2018-06-07 Thread Robert Hill
Hi to all,

Thank you to Tim and Brian for providing a solution to this issue.

I had been trying to work with Apple for quite some time to get this resolved
with no success.

Your work is much appreciated.

Re: DTMF entry during a FaceTime call

2018-06-06 Thread Robert Hill
Hi Jason,

What I have experienced is that dtmf tones cannot be generated once a call has
connected in facetime.

What I have had to do is enter the number I want to call, then insert commas to
create pauses in my dialing string until the system answers, then enter the
desired number to activate the feature.
So for example I enter the string tor a weather service I use, then enter 10
commas to paust until the system answers, then enter the correct digits to
activate the option I wish tu use.
Once the call is connected, I cannot use tones to go to other choices.

Having trouble accessing voiceover users guide

2017-09-30 Thread Robert Hill
Hi all,

I updated to High Sierra on Tuesday.

I am having trouble accessing the VoiceOver User guide using the VoiceOver
help menu.

I can get to the web site, but am unable to read the guide.
I can find a button to browse the table of contents, but nothing seems to
happen when I press VO-space to activate the button.

Is anyone else having issues with this, or am I just having a senior
moment/hour, or what?

Thanks for any any assistance.

2017-04-04 Thread Robert Hill
HI Mark and all,

What I do is when I come to a message thread, I flick up until I hear “expand
Thread” and double tap on that.
Next when I hear how many messages are in the thread, I flick right that many
times so I find the first message which is then read to me.
Then I flick left to proceed to the rest of the messages in the thread.

John, you mentioned the sort order of the messages might play a part in this
issue.
I don’t know how to change the sort order in iOS.
Could you let me know how to change this if this is possible?

Thanks for clarification.

Bob Hill.

2017-04-03 Thread Robert Hill
Hi all,

I have one problem with reading threaded messages this way.

It seems that no matter which way I have the settings for displaying newest
message on top, I always have the newest one on top. It seems like this setting
doesn't take for me.

Re: Question re Fruitpot on IOS

2017-03-10 Thread Robert Hill
Hi,

When I had this issue with the videos freezing the game, I wrote to the
developer, and he said just quit the game.
All of your settings and rewards will still be intact when you restart it.

I haven’t had any videos to watch lately, so I am not sure if this is fixed in
later updates.

Hello all,

What I have done is to ask Siri what my battery charge status is.
That works quickly.
i did send an email to Apple Accessibility about the invisibility of the
charge status, but haven't heard anything back yet.

Re: Braille screen input

2016-11-25 Thread Robert Hill
Are you trying to enter a full braille cell?
If so, you can only enter 5 dots at a time.
So what I do is press down 5 fingers, then lift up one, and complete the full
cell, then lift up all fingers.

I hope this is what you were looking for.

Re: Please Confirm a VoiceOver Bug in Native iOS 10 Mail App Regarding Threaded View

Hi Mark,

The thing that puzzles me is the different behaviors between opening the
thread, where the message order is from oldest to newest, and where you expand
the thread, and the messages appear newest to oldest. Just curious about why
that works that way.

Re: Please Confirm a VoiceOver Bug in Native iOS 10 Mail App Regarding Threaded View

2016-09-17 Thread Robert Hill
Hi Mark,

Yes, I can confirm this bug.
I had posted to the v-phone list with this issue earlier this week.

A work-around I found is to double tap on the thread to open it, not go to the
actions and expand the thread.
When I double tap to open the thread, then when I flick down with one finger,
the oldest message in the thread is at the top as I would expect.
Then what I do is go through the actions, find the message item, then I can
flick down through the messages, and read them by double tapping them,.

Re: the 4-finger swipe

2016-03-23 Thread Robert Hill

because when I tried just now, I had no luck"
I went into accessibility setings' and the voiceover practice area, and lo and
behold, the four finger swipe gesture was not recognized.

Subject: Emails open and just say Message Content

Hi all, when in Mac Mail when I hit the Return/Enter key on a message it will
open but VO just says Message Content and I cannot arrow through the
message. However if I choose Bring all to front from the Window menu then I
can read the message with the up or down arrow keys. I seem to need to do
that with each email to read it. I am using a 2015 Mac Book with all the
latest upgrades. I didn't have to do that with my old Mac Book Air. Any
 suggestions?
 thanks
 Frank

This is a brand new MBP 13 inch machine, in use for only a week or so. Note,
this happens regardless of the Audio Ducking setting. It’s not the same as
audio ducking, but never the less, there is some VO volume fluctuation.

 Any comments please?

 TIA.

Once you play a level for some period of time, like a few days, the next

iPod 4th generation froze during 6.1 upgrade

2013-01-30 Thread Robert Hill
Hi all,

I attempted to upgrade my wife's iPod 4th generation to iOS 6.1.
The device froze after it was supposed to reboot, and now we can't do anything
with it, no shut down, no reset, etc.
I tried connecting it to my Macintosh , but iTunes doesn't recognize it.
Is there any keystroke combination to get the device unstuck?

Thanks for any suggestions.

Subject: iPod 4th generation froze during 6.1 upgrade

 Hi all,

I attempted to upgrade my wife's iPod 4th generation to iOS 6.1.
The device froze after it was supposed to reboot, and now we can't do
anything with it, no shut down, no reset, etc.
I tried connecting it to my Macintosh , but iTunes doesn't recognize it.
Is there any keystroke combination to get the device unstuck?

 Thanks for any suggestions.

Re: iPod 4th generation froze during 6.1 upgrade

2013-01-30 Thread Robert Hill
Hi Scott,

I have tried holding Power-home combination to attempt a reset, no response.
I have tried unplugging and reconnecting the charger, no chirp, no response.
I have tried connecting the device to my Macintosh with iTunes running, no
recognition of the device from iTunes.

If the iPod is indeed in recovery mode, how can I find that out, and how could
I get access to the unit?

Thanks.

My wife says the screen is blank.
Itunes won't even recognize the iPod.
So, I don't know if it's in recovery mode or not, sorry.

Re: Bard download Question

2012-09-05 Thread Robert Hill
What worked for me is not to have Safari open the downloaded file.
Then when I go to the downloads folder, each zipped file has the correct name.
I just unzip them, and put the folders where I want them.

Bob Hill

On Sep 5, 2012, at 9:23 AM, Richard Ring richr...@gmail.com wrote:

 Greetings,
One of the nice things about downloading books from the National Library
Service (NLS) on the Mac is that if you have the check box in Safari
preferences that says open safe files after download checked, Safari will
extract the archived files you download from NLS and place them in their own
folders. This makes it very convenient so when you want to copy these books
to a device that can read them, all you have to do is copy the folder for
each book and you're good to go.
Now, here is the problem I had. I admit from the outset that I'm weird. I
decided on September first that I wanted to download all of the Harry Potter
novels, because I could, and because I could then read them whenever I
wanted. Well, what the Mac did, was give each Bard book the same folder name,
almost. It named each folder DB-JK and DB-JK2 and so on. So, I couldn't tell
which book was which. So, I deleted the 3 books I downloaded, and started
over. This time, I downloaded one book at a time, and renamed each folder
with the correct name for each book.
Now, finally, for my question. Is there an easier way I could have
 accomplished this?
Thanks for reading this long message.
