RE: VMware Fusion/Player

2024-01-02 Thread ilovecountrymusic483
Hi,

To get arch working just do the following at bootup. When the boot menu pops
up, down arrow once and press enter. When arch starts speaking, just type
archinstall and follow the prompts and you should be good. HTH.

Subject: Re: VMware Fusion/Player

If I can get the Arch Linux installer to give me an accessible
installation, I'll go with Arch.

When I succeded with VMware on my 2013 era Macbook Air, I was unable to
get the Arch installer to talk, so went with Debian. That worked
wonderfully as long as the Air was my traveling laptop.

I've never used Asahi, but Speakup will work with any Linux. The issue
with Speakup is how hard you have to work to get Speakup to work. On
Arch and Debian it comes with the Linux kernel. On Fedora it does not,
so one would have to recompile the kernel. I'm not up to speed on how
one compiles kernels these days, and I don't want to spend my life
compiling them just to run Fedora, for instance.

At the moment I'm stuck licensing VMware 13. I can get as far as
inputting the license key. For some stupid reason the Fusion download
isn't giving me the free license, even though I clearly qualify for it
and it's the license I had on my Air. That little mess remains
untangled, and it's where I've been stuck for almost a year.

Happy New Year,
Janina

2023-06-25 Thread ilovecountrymusic483
Hey,

I have not seen any problems with tables in safari at least with basic ones. I
have not seen any complecs tables enough to really test how they work.

Michiel, how did you get the paroles to work with vo? Just wondered as I last
heard it was not accessible and the developpers had not plans to make it so.
Thanks.

Hi Donna,

I'll second that I have issues with tables in some instances in Safari.

It would be interesting if anyone can share some site that they experience
issues with to see if other people are, as maybe it's a configuration issue
that some of us have not made an order to navigate tables. All of the tables I
have problems with our internal tools that I cannot share access to, however,
it does pop up occasionally, and this is what pushed me to actually purchase
parallels. I wanted to actually work, and could not do that in Safari, or edge
with VoiceOver on the Mac, as the table would not allow you to use your
VoiceOver plus up and down, left and right keys in order to navigate it at all.
And, disabling the ability to group tables had no impact.

Hi,

If he goes into the system recovery there is an opsion to do a disk repair
which will repair permissions. Perhaps this might fix it. Otherwize if they
take it to the apple store, they may be able to run a diagnostic check on the
hardware.
Giving that the machine is quuite old, I would say it might be time to put it
to rest. HTH.

Hello,

This is a request for Mac users.

My Macbook, which is a 2015 macbook pro 15 inch has suddenly started acting
very strange when I start it up. And, I need to find out how to try and do a
repair of my operating system.

When I start my computer it starts saying “voiceover off, voiceover off,
voiceover off” over and over.

It does not allow me to finish starting up by logging into my computer.

However, if I do a command F5 to turn voiceover off, then I can log in and it
appears to operate properly until I shut it down and try to start up again.

It actually started that about 2 months ago, but I have avoided really
operating it much since then and I know that now it is asking me if I want to
update my macbook when I go into “about this Mac”.

I tried to find where I can have it do a system analysis, but I have not found
that. I am sure it will tell me something is wrong if I can have it check my
system files.

I should also state that I had not added any new softwar for at least 2 or 3
months before this started happening.

Any ideas and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Dexter Penwell

I have the link to the AppleVis guide to System Settings. If I do upgrade, I’m

Hi. I’m not sure when this happened, but I noticed some of my emails had
disappeared from my inbox sometime last week from my Mac and iPhone in the Mail
app. My inbox has both an AT email account with Yahoo and a Gmail account. I
had a lot more messages from Yahoo in my inbox before and those messages are
now missing. I did a google search for how to recover missing emails and found
out you can synchronize accounts in Mail or rebuild the mailbox. I synchronized
all the accounts first, but that didn’t work. If I rebuild my inbox in mail,
will this recover all the email messages I’m missing from my inbox? Will this
delete anything? Can you rebuild a mailbox account on iPhone or just the Mac?
Thanks.

I have a dongle plugged into mine. I bought it in late 2014 and it was

Hello,

This might be a major bug in your view, but it is by definition not a
regression. This occurred for me in Big Sur, so it is not a issue brought on by
 the new Operating System.

2021-10-29 Thread ilovecountrymusic483
Hi,

IMO, but if you need to have a mouse or trackpad just to get things setup then
that is a major flaw. With that being said, I have ordered a majic mouse from
aapple and should be getting within a few days. My entition is to upgrade my
2018 mac mini to Monterey, but want to do a clean install. The problem I ran
into however was that I could not git rid of the mouse image that came up. It
would try to find a mouse knowing that there isn't one so will have to wait for
my mouse to get here on Tuesday.

2019-09-11 Thread ilovecountrymusic483
Hi,

I was supprised there was not a new homepod this year since there were roomers
of one. I am still considering one, but not settled on when. Also, I was
thinping of the apple watch, buyt there 2 things that concern me. 1 is the
ability to putting itt on and taking it off. The other is is wondering if it
would ever have the ability to detech if someione like myself is having a
seasure. I have epilepsy so that would be nice to have that.

I am still paying on my 8 plus from t-mobile so will have to either pay it off
or continue paying on it before upgrading. Just my thoughts.

Tim, sending this from Apple mail. If anyone sees it, simply acknowledge it
with a reply. That will confirm that this actually works. I do understand the
Gmail behavior and it does lineup with my experience of one other Google groups
list to which I subscribe. Thanks for all your help.

Hi,

This is the default behaviour in G Mail within the Google Groups environment.
Whether using a mail client, or the G Mail web interface, messages are not
normally sent back to the original recipient. So, to clarify, if you are using
a G Mail address while a member of a Google Group, when you send a eMail to
that group, you will not normally receive a copy of the message you sent to the
group. If you are a member of the group and use a different non-G Mail address
such as an iCloud.com address, you will receive your sent
message back in your InBox. In many situations, this is the preferred
behaviour as it's unnecessary to always receive copies of messages you send.

Hello Kevin,

Okay, this is one to which I believe I know the answer.

For whatever reason, if you send an email to a Google group from either the
Apple iOS native mail client or the Mac OS native mail client, using a gMail
email address, you must either CC or BCC yourself in order to have your
original message appear in your Inbox.

Don't ask me why this is so because neither Apple or Google has ever answered
this question for me. I suspect this has something to do with the way Apple
handles the All Mail folder on the gMail servers. There's a long back story
about the glitch between Apple and Google when Google switched to a labeling
system many years ago but the details are fuzzy in my memory and the entire
scenario now seems kind of boring. (smile).

Simon,

I’m replying using the gmail address through which I am subscribed to Mac
Visionaries. During the just completed thread on RWP, I did attempt to send
several responses from this address in Apple Mail. I know these didn’t arrive
because they didn’t show up in my inbox after I sent them. So, I would go to
the web and write the responses that you all did receive. I know you received
my web based responses because those responses came to my inbox along with
your responses.

As a test, I will send this to macvisionaries@googlegroups.com
  from Apple Mail kevj...@gmail.com
. I’ll wait a few hours and see if you or anyone
else responds. If you don’t, I’ll respond through the web and explain that
there was a reply from me that failed to arrive from my Gmail address via Apple
Mail.

Hope that makes sense.
Best,
Kevin

PS. This is a second attempt from Gmail via Apple Mail. This time, I’m
hitting Reply All in case that should make any difference at all.

Hi all,

Just had to post this.

June 19 2009 was the release date of the iPhone 3Gs, the first release of the
iPhone to have Voiceover. I still remember how excited I was to go to our
local Apple store and buy my first iPhone--to be followed shortly thereafter by
the purchase of my first Mac.

If anyone is interested in a fun trip down memory lane, here is David

Hi all,

I was just wondering how I can change the way my emails are listed on my Mac?
At the moment I have the newest email at the top of the list and the older
emails at the bottom. I was thinking I’d try it the other way round but
couldn’t find where to change it. I did go in the mail Preferences and found
the view menu, and there was a check box that said something like show old
messages at the top tick box and it was not ticked. I am using modern view on
the native mail app on the Mac.

Hi,

Just ordered an ipad mini this morning and report my thoughts when I receive it
here in a couple of days. I do think that I would do better with the mini as I
don’t need a large screen. The new mini does still have the home button as
well as the a12 prosseser which is the same prosser that is in the newer
iphones. I think you have a choice to use the home button or the jesturwe.
HTH.

I wonder what version the firmware is up to now. I saw a review, but it was of
the early release version. That version had issues. The voice thing didn’t work
well at all with iPhones. Plus really, who wants a voice output on your braille
display if the point is to read braille? I think this is a great idea as a
braille display. If I could get a few more cells with the auto scroll thing,
and lose some ofthe features that probably not very many people want, thereby
chopping some of the price, and good documentation, this would be great. But I
can’t spend $2800 on the 16 sell braille display, no matter how good it might
be.

Hi, What happens after you reboot the machine? I get this from time to time
and a restart usually fixes this.

RE: macOS 10.14.3: VoiceOver Loading Slowly after Entering Password

2019-02-26 Thread ilovecountrymusic483
Hi,

I have a 2013 iMac with 8 GB of ram and a 1 TB HD and have auto login enabled
and find that vo takes quite a bit of time to load. I am wondering if you did
a clean install or a in place upgrade. This may have something to do with it.
Also do you have certain apps such a drop box or online backup apps that load
at start at login. Just trying to have some idea as to what could be causing
this.

Hi,

I'd say that it might be a combination of both. The 4 GB is pretty much the
minimum that Mojave can handle. Combine that with a slower processor, and you
will find things a little slower. Also, if you've just done the upgrade, give
your Mac about 24 hours or so to index everything and it should start behaving
better. Note, the indexing only happens when the Mac is awake.

between my entering the "login" command and VoiceOver's speaking the

about four seconds. Is this a known issue with later macOS versions,

Hi,

2 things. First, if you're considering an iPad, I would hold off as if your
looking at a mini, apple says they are releasing an iPad mini 5th gen some time
this year. I think 9-5 mac has articles suggesting such.

Second. The iPad mini is good for the simple fact that it is only about 7
inches and is great as a small device if you do not have a laptop and you can
always get a keyboard to use with it if you do not have one already. I would
be interested in other people's thought as well.

Hi all,

OK, so Mark has re-awakened the bug in me, and I'm thinking about buying an
iPad mini. But I'd like to do a sensibility check first.

I've been curious about learning Swift ever since Apple released Swift
Playgrounds. However, my interest is largely as a hobby, I don't see myself
suddenly embarking on a career as an app developer. With that in mind, I'm
wondering if buying an iPad is just a silly expensive purchase. Other than the
Swift Playgrounds issue, I've always felt like an iPad would just be redundant,
since I have no need whatsoever for the extra screen real-estate. so here's my
question. Do any of you own both an iPhone and an iPad? If so, what is the
value of having both devices? What niche or need does the iPad fill that the
phone does not?

Thanks in advance for any input.
Cheers,
Donna

Anyone using apple air pods under bootcamp with windows 10 1809 and find that there very choppy?

2019-02-10 Thread ilovecountrymusic483
Hi all,

Today I decided to try and connect my apple air pods to windows 10 1809
which I managed to do, but find that there very choppy and keep cutting out
audio. Any one having problems with this. Is this a Bluetooth problem or a
problem with the air pods themselves. Just wondering if there was a way to
fix this or try to eliminate this.

Thanks all,

Matthew

BTW, this is an iMac 21 inch with a windows 10 1809 installed. This IMAC
from 2013 so a few years old if that matters.

Matthew

Hi,

For the first time after upgrading to Mojave, I ran into a web site that uses
the Java applets, and learned that with Safari 12 and higher, Java is no longer
supported. If that’s in fact true, I guess I need to find another browser for
my Mac that does support Java if I want to continue using that web site. I
realize it’s been discussed before, but I’d like to hear some thoughts about
what browsers others are using that are Accessible.

Thanks,

Also, make sure that your authorized for 2018 and that you have any keys. If
not then you will have to contact vfo and have them reset your lisence kreys
for it to work. Go to fsactivvate.com and from there you should be able to see
how many activationas are left and reset if need be.

Try installing an earlier version like jaws 17 or 18 and see if one of the

Yeah but if you’re a total like me
You get the reboot and then it all goes dark and quiet, and you have to ask for

I so wish Microsoft would put a fully accessibile installation means in to all

No, not a bad config, just bad behavior because I didn't respond soon enough!

This time I baby sat the install, ready to enter my password at a second's

Sheesh. I haven't had to work this hard on an install since, since, since ...

RE: Bootcamp vs VM fusion?

2017-08-04 Thread ilovecountrymusic483
Hi,

One advantage of using boot camp is that all the resorsis are used and this
could come ion handy, but you would need a pare of usb headphones to get sound
at first dirring the install. If you use vmware you will have to alacate ram
for your vm. HTH.

So, I have used fusion in the past, but never fusion. Someone asked me witch
is better, but since I have never given bootcamp a spin, I can’t answer that.
So, anybody tried both, what is the advantages and disadvantages? Except with
fusion I know you can run both systems at once, so besides that? Personally, I
don’t even use windows enough to care, but told this friend I would ask the
experts.lol
