Mike, It helps to know there is only the one version, thanks. That is where I have trouble. I've tried to edit the speech rate there but the changes never stick. The rate I had in prior versions was 39.4 and is what is displayed. But I am unable to change this at all, like 39.2. I must be missing something. There is no save button, just an ok button. Question about getting my Alex voice back on Apple TV HD
I just updated my Apple TV HD to the latest iOS. Update went smoothly, but it came up with the Samantha voice talking, and not even enhanced, just the regular one. I went into voiceover speech and Alex was still selected. I clicked on it with the remote, it said retrieving info, and then said it required an 800 and some megabyte download. I clicked on it again, and it keeps telling me it requires this big download. But nothing is happening apparently. I went to a different voice, Siri mail, which requires 400 and some. That apparently downloaded. At least, I got percentages of download until it stopped. But that one doesn’t play either, and when I click on it now, it simply says it requires 490 some megabytes download. What the heck is going on? Re: alex voice question from another list?
Hi Karen. This was a bug in Sierra which I think was 10.12 or later. It wasn't fixed until High Sierra which was 10.13. I can't remember if the 2010 Mac Minis were able to be upgraded to High Sierra but if they can and the person really wants to be able to use Alex, I would upgrade to High Sierra. If they can't, then the Mac will keep crashing unless they use a different voice other than the Mackentalk voices. By Mackentalk I mean Alex, Fred etc. Other voices such as Nuance or Acapela didn't crash the Mac in Sierra. HTH. Hi, that's not what they meant. They are saying, if you don't have a 5S, you can not get Alex on your iPhone. Why would anyone want to have a typing echo at all, unless one were learning the keyboard for the first time? In which case, the lag won't really matter, as typing speed will be negligible. For anyone typing faster than 50-60 WPM, much less 120 or so which most people type at, having typing echo set to anything other than nothing is just annoying and inefficient. • Mark BurningHawk Baxter • AIM, Skype and Twitter: BurningHawk1969 • MSN: burninghawk1...@hotmail.com • My home page: • http://MarkBurningHawk.net/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: typing at fast speeds with the Alex voice ...
I use Samantha compact. When I first got my Mac last year, I tried Alex for a month or so, but couldn't get use to him. It was one thing I missed from my windows screen reader, being able to set different rates for keyboard, screen, mouse. If it was an option, I'd probably have Sam-Compact for keyboard, and Alex for reading. :) Traci Sent by Macbook Air Mail On Oct 3, 2012, at 9:15 AM, Mark Baxter markbaxte...@gmail.com wrote: Why would anyone want to have a typing echo at all, unless one were learning the keyboard for the first time? Re: typing at fast speeds with the Alex voice ...
lol, you honestly think most people type at 120 wpm? I definitely don't think so. I bet the average typing speed is somewhere around 45wpm. You can do this in the VoiceOver Utility. Check the additional voice options in the voices tab of the speech category. Christopher Hallsworth On 03/10/2012 17:23, Traci wrote: I use Samantha compact. Re: typing at fast speeds with the Alex voice ...
Not really. You can't change, for instance, the voice used in a say all command versus the voice used when reading line by line. Yes, you can change the voice for things like typing, content, menus, and so on, and you can set up activities to use voices in different apps, but there is no way to set the rate and voice for say all reading. If I missed it, please let me know. On Oct 3, 2012, at 2:29 PM, Chris christopher...@gmail.com wrote: You can do this in the VoiceOver Utility. typing at fast speeds with the Alex voice ...
Hello, I have noticed that typing very quickly on my Mac using Alex that it is not very responsive (not keeping up as I type). Now, I do have keyboard speech set to echo characters. Switching to Samantha seems to be a bit better but I was just curious what others impressions are as far as a good voice that is very responsive (even if purchased)?
