Re: Alex Voice

2022-11-06 Thread 'E.T.' via MacVisionaries

Mike,
It helps to know there is only the one version, thanks. That is
where I have trouble. I've tried to edit the speech rate there but the
changes never stick. The rate I had in prior versions was 39.4 and is
what is displayed. But I am unable to change this at all, like 39.2. I
must be missing something. There is no save button, just an ok button.

Question about getting my Alex voice back on Apple TV HD

2019-09-25 Thread Mary Otten
I just updated my Apple TV HD to the latest iOS. Update went smoothly, but it
came up with the Samantha voice talking, and not even enhanced, just the
regular one. I went into voiceover speech and Alex was still selected. I
clicked on it with the remote, it said retrieving info, and then said it
required an 800 and some megabyte download. I clicked on it again, and it keeps
telling me it requires this big download. But nothing is happening apparently.
I went to a different voice, Siri mail, which requires 400 and some. That
apparently downloaded. At least, I got percentages of download until it
stopped. But that one doesn’t play either, and when I click on it now, it
simply says it requires 490 some megabytes download. What the heck is going on?

Re: alex voice question from another list?

2019-05-19 Thread 'Shawn Krasniuk' via MacVisionaries
Hi Karen. This was a bug in Sierra which I think was 10.12 or later. It wasn't
fixed until High Sierra which was 10.13. I can't remember if the 2010 Mac Minis
were able to be upgraded to High Sierra but if they can and the person really
wants to be able to use Alex, I would upgrade to High Sierra. If they can't,
then the Mac will keep crashing unless they use a different voice other than
the Mackentalk voices. By Mackentalk I mean Alex, Fred etc. Other voices such
as Nuance or Acapela didn't crash the Mac in Sierra. HTH.

This is something that’s bugged me for years. I have a Mid 2010 Mac mini which
is my admin computer. It is not my music machine with the exception of having
my iTunes library on it. It is running 10.12.6. I’m wondering why the Alex VO
voice stops running after 15 minutes or so. You have to restart the machine to
get VO to work again. This doesn’t happen with any other voice. Ideas?

Hi,

that's not what they meant. They are saying, if you don't have a 5S, you can
not get Alex on your iPhone. It will only work on Apple devices with a 64 bit
processor. 5S, iPad mini retina, and the iPad air. And of course, the iPhone
6 and 6+ come tomorrow.

 take a while.

Next, you'd probably have to switch your default voice to be Alex in
Voiceover. Even if it says default is Alex, it will still talk with
Samantha's voice. If memory serves, a reboot of your phone should set that
 right.

   Hello,
Thank you for your email. With the Voice Ava I've not been able to
detect a difference between the pronunciations of
the words for or four or the number 4. I've also not been able to to
detect the difference between to or too or two or
the number 2. I can hear a very slight difference in pronunciation

Re: typing at fast speeds with the Alex voice ...

I have no typing echo as Alex was never able to keep up with me. I normally
type so fast that no synth can fully pronounce the characters I type as I type
them, so I see little point int leaving echo on. Alex, though, always seemed a
bit slow to respond. I now use Serena and find her much more responsive.

Not really. You can't change, for instance, the voice used in a say all command
versus the voice used when reading line by line. Yes, you can change the voice
for things like typing, content, menus, and so on, and you can set up
activities to use voices in different apps, but there is no way to set the rate
and voice for say all reading. If I missed it, please let me know.
