Apple mail on my Mac

2023-12-04 Thread Lorie McCloud
I went looking for something I had hastily deleted and discovered that my trash
mailbox has no messages. where are they going when I delete them? I like to
keep them for a week. or. 2 and then get rid of them.

thanks.

Re: Apple mail on my Mac

2023-10-01 Thread joseph hudson
Hi Lori, I have occasionally had that happen too. Where it won't bring in new
messages from my Google account. However, occasionally I have to delete and
re-add that account and that normally fix the problem.

Re: Apple mail on a Mac

2022-05-17 Thread Brad Snyder
I’m wondering if this issue could have to do with a mail message that is trying
to load remote content.
To eliminate this possibility, try the following:
1. Open Mail Preferences, and select the Privacy category.
2. Make sure that either the Protect Mail Activity item is selected, or the
Block All Remote Content item is selected.

HTH.

Try using

VO-F2 Read current window name
VO-F3 Read current VO Cursor location
and
VO-F4 Read current keyboard focus

This should let you kverify that you are indeed in a mail message window of the

You can also try interact/stop interact commands to see if they provide context.

Re: Apple mail on a mac

2021-01-22 Thread Brad Snyder
When in apple Mail, CMD + L should enable/disable message filter. It is a
toggle, so repeating should turn it off, and return your View to what it was
before doing the command.

Beginning with Mail in Catalina, Column Layout resembles what was known as
Classic View in earlier version of Mail. If this is what you want, make sure
the item is checked.

BTW - CMD + 0, will open a new Viewer window as well. Pressing CMD + 1, will
pretty much do the same thing.

It usually will say, has attachment or attachments. At least, from my
experience, it does. You can mess with the filter options from the View menu
where there is an Attachment, option, but I don’t know how that will effect
your messages.

Re: Problems with columns in Apple mail after formattting Mac Book Pro.

2010-12-26 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Kawal et al,

My mail view is, from left to right, Status, From, Subject, Date. I'm leaving
out the disclosure and attachment symbols.

Kawal, it may be necessary to have a sighted person use the Mouse to select the
entire column and then drag it to the correct location.

There must be a way to do this with VoiceOver but, at present, I do not know
how.

Perhaps a note to the accessibility team would be in order here.

Problems with columns in Apple mail after formattting Mac Book Pro.

2010-12-24 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Hi.

I had to format my Macbook Pro after having problems with Mobile Me and my I
Disk.

I was able to install the operating system myself although my Brother-in-law
who is a Mac User with Voice Over helped me set up my Time Capsule so was able
to retrieve my files. However, when agreeing to the Apple mail licence, and
going into all the mail settings, my columns are wrong and I can't correct
them. In my sent items my columns are correct. For instance in my sent items
my columns are from, to, date sent. This is going from left to right. However
in my inbox, going from left to right, I have subject, date received and to. I
have mail set to threaded view. Also, I can't have my mail sorted from date
descending so at the top I want all my old mail where as if I get to the bottom
my today's mail is shown. Can anyone help?

I have tried setting up my signature which I was able to do when I first bought
my Mac Book Pro in May but since the updates, mail is consistently crashing so
I can't add a signature which is annoying. I know this topic has been
discussed. I have let the problem reporter send problem reports to Apple.

Happy Christmas and a happy new year to you all.

Kawal.

Open vo+m then scroll to view down arrow once and you should be on collums sub

And on your sitting on your date column press vo+shift+backslash and that
should swap it to the way you want! :]
Merry Christmas!

Thanks Colin. I did the column view setting as you describe and have changed
the date order, but still I'm scrolling left to right and get subject first,
date and then to whoever the mailing list might be. I remember all this being
the other way around, to, subject and then date received so this is still
strange. Shame about my signature problem though.

Merry Christmas to you too.

Re: Problems with columns in Apple mail after formattting Mac Book Pro.

2010-12-24 Thread Esther

Hi Yuma and Kawal,

You typically can't rearrange the order in which the displayed columns of information to
be viewed will occur.  At least, even with the procedure of checking or unchecking View
Option columns, re-ordering of at least the main columns with headings that are usually
displayed doesn't seem to stick in any application.  The VO-Shift-Backslash is the
VO-vertical line shortcut for sorting entries in a column in either ascending or
descending order.  On an English language input keyboard the key for typing a vertical
line is the shifted backslash key, and is at the right edge of the keyboard, above the
return key and below the delete key.  VO-backslash expands folders (although on the
commands menu reached by pressing VO-H twice, this is announced as toggle
disclosure triangle).  VO-Shift-Backslash (or VO-Vertical lIne) sorts the selected
column of a table in either ascending or descending order (e.g., applying the command a
second time on the same column reverses the sort order).

Kawal, did you remember to interact before trying to use VO-Shift-Backslash to
reverse the sort order of the column in mail?  That's usually the problem if
your sort didn't work.  Yuma, is there now a shortcut sequence for sorting on
the French input language keyboard, or do you still need to use VO-H twice to
select the sort command?  (And as an aside, the sort command will not show up
as one of the menu options this way, if you did not interact first -- these
options are context sensitive.)

HTH.  Cheers,

Esther

Re: Problems with columns in Apple mail after formattting Mac Book Pro.

2010-12-24 Thread Colin M
Hi Kawal!
Me again! :]
My mail is laid out the way you said that you thought it was!
from, subject and then date I've also got attachments after that on mine!

 Dear Ester.

Yes, I did interact with the date field i.e. interact with the table and put
the cursor on the date field.

Ester, please correct me if I'm wrong, but when I got my Mac (then i was in
the USA) with a friend who is also on the Mac list, his configurations of
mail was how I found mine at the time with the columns of information thus,
from, or to, subject, date received. This was before I formatted my Mac Book
Pro earlier this week. So, my question to you Ester is and others, did
something change when we updated our Macs recently? This is driving me mad
because I'm so sure that our columns were the other way round rather what
 they are now!

 Hi Yuma and Kawal,

You typically can't rearrange the order in which the displayed columns of
information to be viewed will occur. At least, even with the procedure of
checking or unchecking View Option columns, re-ordering of at least the main
columns with headings that are usually displayed doesn't seem to stick in
any application. The VO-Shift-Backslash is the VO-vertical line shortcut
for sorting entries in a column in either ascending or descending order. On
an English language input keyboard the key for typing a vertical line is the
shifted backslash key, and is at the right edge of the keyboard, above the
return key and below the delete key. VO-backslash expands folders (although
on the commands menu reached by pressing VO-H twice, this is announced as
toggle disclosure triangle). VO-Shift-Backslash (or VO-Vertical lIne)
sorts the selected column of a table in either ascending or descending order
(e.g., applying the command a second time on the same column reverses the
 sort order).

Kawal, did you remember to interact before trying to use VO-Shift-Backslash
to reverse the sort order of the column in mail? That's usually the problem
if your sort didn't work. Yuma, is there now a shortcut sequence for
sorting on the French input language keyboard, or do you still need to use
VO-H twice to select the sort command? (And as an aside, the sort command
will not show up as one of the menu options this way, if you did not
interact first -- these options are context sensitive.)

 HTH. Cheers,

 Esther

 Hi,

I got the same problem with my macbook pro at home, whereas even if i check
and uncheck the column items to change order of lecture, it remains the
 same.

What is this vo shift \ thing supposed to do?

Merry xmas and a safe healthy binge :)

Apple Mail and a Mac Mini Question

2009-11-30 Thread Richie Gardenhire
Hi, I'm having trouble sending mail on my Mac Mini. I checked the
settings on both my iMac and Mac Mini and both settings for each
account are identical. However, on my Mac Mini, I keep getting a
message that says: The SMPT server is not responding, or The SMPT
server has timed out. I've even gone as far as to remove all
accounts from the Mac Mini and redo the accounts over again. I am
receiving mail, but can't send any. I called my Internet provider and
they suggested using just the local server for all accounts to see if
that works. Are there any other possibilities? I checked my wireless
router, and it works like a charm on all the computers in my house,
including my iMac. All software is updated on my Mac Mini, as I have
Leopard installed. Richie Gardenhire, Anchorage, Alaska.

Not sure if this was a typo but it's smtp. If you typed it as smpt in your
smtp server it won't work.
