Thanks for that one. My paws are rather big, thus, that 3 finger flick to

I can probbly do a 5 finger jesture on the phone althorugh my hand would be
a bit cramped. I actually use the back of my thumb and the first 2 fingers
to turn pages. so it might be able to be done.

Keep in mind this is only a rumor and there is little to support the
assertion at this point. I also do not believe the five finger gesture
would be used on the iPhone. I recall the article I read indicated these
gestures would be only for the iPad, but this is from memory.

RE: Apple to Remove the Home Button from Future iPads and iPhones?

2011-01-17 Thread Andy Baracco
Before my iPhone, every cell phone I ever had would either play a tune,
vibrate, or both when it came on.

As far as the iPhone is concerned, I'm more worried about these 4 and 5
finger gestures they're reportedly thinking about. It wouldn't be any
trouble on a iPad with all that screen real estate but, on an iPhone? I
couldn't imagine many adults being able to do a 5 finger pinch gesture with
comfort. The screen is just too small.

I was thinking about that as well actually. The only way I can see it
working is if your fumb is at the bottom of the screen and your other
4 fingers are at the top. Even then, it doesn't sound overly smooth.

I do like the idea of controling multitasking using jestures though; I
always thought that the app switcher could have been a bit better ad that it
could load a bit faster come to think of it.

It could or, Apple could just do something clever like they have previously.

I can't remember how many times I heard Apple will never make an accessible
phone with a qwerty keyboard or any variation comments. Then apple comes
out with a revolutionary touch screen only design and rocks the market.
Clearly they put a lot of time in to their designs for all accessibility
methods, they will do something else like presses of the volume keys or
scratching your left gentlemans parts 3 times. :)

Four and Five Finger Gestures was Re: Apple to Remove the Home Button from Future iPads and iPhones?

2011-01-17 Thread Marc Workman
Scott's right. According to everything I've read, the new gestures work
with the iPad IOS, not iPhone 4.3. One article that was sent to this list
specifically said that they do not work with the iPhone. Other articles
simply don't mention the iPhone when discussing these gestures.

Best,

Keep in mind this is only a rumor and there is little to support the
assertion at this point. I also do not believe the five finger gesture would
be used on the iPhone. I recall the article I read indicated these gestures
would be only for the iPad, but this is from memory.

Right,

But 5 finger gestures have nothing to do with being blind. Its the size of the
screen, and the size of ones hands.

Re: Apple to Remove the Home Button from Future iPads and iPhones?

2011-01-17 Thread Scott Howell
Keep in mind this is only a rumor and there is little to support the assertion
at this point. I also do not believe the five finger gesture would be used on
the iPhone. I recall the article I read indicated these gestures would be only
for the iPad, but this is from memory.

Hi Kawal,

Lol.

That would only be constructive to those who can't see. And it would only be
useful on an iPhone since the other devices don't vibrate. :). I've heard
others mention this, and I just don't think its a big deal. Voiceover talks as
soon as the IOS loads up anyway. And if you own an iPhone, and voiceover
doesn't speak and your in doubt if the phone is on, just toggle the silent
switch. This vibrates when turned on.

Re: Apple to Remove the Home Button from Future iPads and iPhones?

2011-01-17 Thread Ricardo Walker
I don't think this will effect VO accessibility much. They can simply turn it
from triple press of home, to triple press of sleep/power button. As far as
the iPhone is concerned, I'm more worried about these 4 and 5 finger gestures
they're reportedly thinking about. It wouldn't be any trouble on a iPad with
all that screen real estate but, on an iPhone? I couldn't imagine many adults
being able to do a 5 finger pinch gesture with comfort. The screen is just too
small.

Apple to Remove the Home Button from Future iPads and iPhones?

2011-01-17 Thread Kevin Shaw
Saw this story and thought I'd pass it along. This could spell trouble for some
of the accessibility features on the iPhone, for example, triple-clicking the
home button to toggle VO on and off.
