Re: A few Mac and iOS braille display questions
I may have solved my braille display not tracking the focus problem under Mac OS. I turned on the “show alert messages for duration” options under the Braille preferences in VoiceOver, then set a reasonable time limit. > On Mar 29, 2018, at 15:38, Scott Berrywrote: > > I didn’t realize the Baum was in bank raptly. Hello, I took a quick gander at that article you sent along. What you need to ensure is that you have the latest firmware it’s kind of quirky in the old firmware they say. If your using 1.40 then you should have better success. Also you need to ensure your connected to the appropriate channel to make this happen. Re: A few Mac and iOS braille display questions
Hi, I don't actually have a Braille device to confirm, but if it is connected via Bluetooth, I expect that the Braille display would wake the iOS device. After waking, navigate to the Unlock button, tap it, then use Braille input to enter the Pass-Code. You should be able to navigate freely beyond that. If you meant that you'd like to have the iOS device remain locked while doing your thing, I don't believe that is possible. Sorry, I'm not able to help any with your second question. Later... A few Mac and iOS braille display questions
Just a few braille questions that have arisen recently: Is there a way to operate an iOS device from a Bluetooth-connected braille display without having to take the iPhone or iPad out and unlock it? That is, can the braille display access an iOS device while it’s on the lock screen? Two more braille display questions
Hi all, 1. It looks like there should be a way to add commands to the list, and then assign them to a braille display key, but I can't figure out how to do it. Can someone tell me if this is possible, and if so, how do you do it? 2. when I try and navigate through the messages table in Mail, It's as though VO keys are automatically turned on. Whether I use the arrow keys or the scroll buttons, all movement behaves like VO plus up or down arrow. This makes it impossible to move up and down in the messages list. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a solution? Thanks, Donna -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups MacVisionaries group. Re: Braille Display Questions
Hi there There are several commands which are already built into voiceover for using your braille display. Commands like plus the letter E for example, are the return key or enter.Plus the D means delete. Then you can map keys on your braille display to voice over commands. Re: Braille Display Questions
What Christine wants to do is use the command bound to VO-J; I don't remember the exact name for it but it allows for jumping between different parts of the screen and remain interacted with the same. I use it a lot in iTunes and Mail. For Mail it jumps immediately between the list of mail folders and the message list for the currently selected mail box. One would need to map a vacant Braille display command to this VO command to accomplish the desired results. Re: Braille Display Questions
Thanks to you all. My questions are a bit more specific, I think. I would like to be able to use the display without having the voice on at all. I was able to function with just a Braille display when I used Windows and I could turn the Jaws speech off or mute it. When I try to do that with the Mac, I continue to discover things I can't figure out how to do with VO and the Focus or any other Braille display. For example, is there any way to simulate the VO command? Without that a lot of things are not able to be done. If, for example, I am looking at my list of E-Mail messages, and I wish to read one, I cannot do a VO J command to get into the message. That is just an example. Re: Braille Display Questions
Chkristine. I just gfigured out how to interact with messages with your braille display. I thought it would work, and it did. Try pressing space bar with dots 2-3-6. I tested the other day to uninteract. That command is space bar and the dots 3-5-6. In other words, spacebar with the question mark to do it, and space bar with the low j to undo it. If you want to turn your speech off, do space bar and the letter m together. By the way, screen curtain is space bar and the for sign together. The muting command is same one if you want your speech back. Regards, Gigi On Jan 4, 2013, at 5:06 PM, Kristeen Hughes khwi...@gmail.com wrote: Thanks to you all. Re: Braille Display Questions
Hi. I have created my own command for this space with J. You can create keyboard commands on the display, however, they can only be for VoiceOver specific keyboard commands. For example, VO plus J works fine, but command Q, which is an OSX command, will not work. Apparently there is some kind of Apple scripting way of doing this, but I don't know how. SO in short, yes, you can program your display to use specific functions related to VoiceOver, but not any keyboard command that is generalized to the Mac. You'll find that some keyboard commands on the Mac already have a braille equivalent, such as space with 2-3-6 to interact with items and space with 3-5-6 to stop interacting. Hi Scott. I realize that she was talking about Vo J and that it is different. However, I tested it, and it works anyway on email messages. I did that before I wrote the post. I wanted to see if it would work. It did. In fact, I wonder if these commands VO J and the usual interacting command are interchangeable. I'll test it and find out. When I try to do that with the Mac, I continue to discover things I can't figure out how to do with VO and the Focus or any other Braille display. For example, is there any way to simulate the VO command? Without that a lot of things are not able to be done. Thanks Iggie, I'll try that. You can customize some things under Braille in the Voiceover utility, but you can only customize the choices that are offered and so many things are not. Hi again Kristeen. Well, I discovered that it doesn't always work. I got it to work the first time, but when I tried it again, it didn't work. In fact, it's real strange. It interacts and then says dimmed, even though it's still there and everything. I got the space D to work to delete an email. Say, let me know if you get the same result.
