The standard of command m for minimize has been used by Apple computers since
the days of MacOS 7. It is possible that you remapped this, also the VO+M
keystroke brings up menus.

Re: Keyboard shortcuts broken after VMware's remote support

2016-01-29 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Chris:

My recollection is a bit hazy, as my VMware has been borked for
sometime. I believe I had a somewhat working Orca under VMware 7. I say
"somewhat," because
I was never able to reliably map an Orca key. I did manage to map a few
select options like Alt+f2 and Alt+f4 that worked most of the time.

Depressing, actually.

I had much better luck with Speakup in a Linux console.

Truth of the matter, however, is that the poor Linux support from VMware
caused me to ignore my Mac. I only went on one business trip with it,
actually, because the performance of the Linux VM was so poor. I simply
went back to my 8 year old Thinkpad which did much better.

I've been trying to get something going with VMware 8, but now I'm
having basic Apple issues, e.g. attempting to access Keychain Access (or
Internet Accounts) quickly gets me to a "busy" message that persists.
Not a good situation.

Sorry to be such a bummer, but I'm bummed about this.

Re: Keyboard shortcuts broken after VMware's remote support

2016-01-18 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi, Sabahattin:

You're correct, and I'll follow through on this. I know I did some
mappings via the VMware settings menus. But I can no longer say whether
that was all the mapping I did. In other words, I did have Karabiner
installed, and it's very likely some mappings came via that app. It's
temporarily off my Mac because it wasn't successfully auto updating.
I'll put it back and see whether that helps.

My biggest problem with the apparent difference is that I can't reliably
access the vm. It used to be that I could release the mouse with
Option+Command and tab into the vm. I could even right arrow past Unity
and end up in the vm. None of that is working.

So, back to the drawing board and the debug process of walking all the
configuration steps. In truth I don't know whether VMware support broke
things, or whether the upgrade broke them. All I really know is that it
isn't behaving as before.

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Keyboard shortcuts broken after VMware's remote support

2016-01-13 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Hi Once Again,

In my other two messages about my saga with my upgrade to VMware 8, I've
explained how I successfully got past the problems with VMware's
reliance on Cisco Webex for remote access. I've also described the
partial success VMware Tech Support had fixing my issue. Windows works,
Linux does not. Bummer -- but that's another thread.

VMware seems to have broken my Mac key mappings. Most noticable case in
point ...

Command+M no longer takes me to the menu bar. Rather Vo responds "Minimize."
If I want the menu bar, I have to do Ctrl+F2, a more awkward gesture.

There are other mapping issues as well. For instance, I can't seem to
actually get my keyboard into the Windows vm. I seem stuck in the VMware
chrome on the Mac. I'll have to hack at this one.

Anyone know, or have a thought of what might have happened here? How do
I get my familiar Apple mappings back?

Thanks in advance for any help on this one particularly.

Janina
