RE: Outlook On IMac

2020-02-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Oh and joy,

If you have a lot of contacts and related info in your mail account,

You could in outlook try exporting from the existing in to a pst file and then
once you have your new account up and working import the pst file back in to
your outlook account for the new setup.

RE: Outlook On IMac

2020-02-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi Joy,

As previously stated,

If you are using the same mail account as you currently have then it should be
a case of configureing your new setup in your mac mail on the phone or computer
using the imap settings,

What mail lives on your mail account / server from your hosting company will
be there or should be there when you setup / configure your new mail account on
your phone / Ios device!

If you wish to confirm this first I would suggest setting up your imap account
/ configurations in one mail client and then leave your current setup active in
your existing client.

Once you know the new setup is working correctly then you can look at removing
that account from the second client

If you have your pop mail kept on your server or on the server then your imap
setup should see the existing mail there and show it to you.

I use office 365 or outlook 365 both in windows and mac and I've never had an
issue with this,

I will admit that the majority of my mail is on exchange servers but they do
allow me to change to imap if required.

I would suggest giving the above a try and ensuring all is working correctly
before killing your pop account that way you will still have working mail
account if the imap doesn't for some reason work.

Good luck,

Simon f

This is correct. If you are setup to use IMAP with your mail provider on your
iPhone,, all your mail boxes and their contents exist on your provider’s mail
server, and will just show up when you setup your account in the Mac Apple Mail
application.

If you are setup using POP on your iPhone, this will not be the case.
The old Outlook Express you were using does not support IMAP, and was most
likely using a POP setup.

RE: Outlook On IMac

2020-02-08 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Ummm,
Brad, that’s not always correct,

It will depend on who and how your mail is currently setup / hosted,

If you wish to change an existing account from pop3 to an imap account then
your mail may remain on the mail server of your host in which case the swap to
imap will change how you are connected to that mail host and therefore you
should still have your mail showing or at least some of your mail depending on
what you have your setup configured for.

You should also be able to archive your existing mail through your mail client
into a storage archive such as a psT file from outlook or I’m sure apple mail
has an equivalent option and then setup your new mail connection using imap and
then import your archive in to the new setup to have your older mail showing in
your existing account.

If you can’t do this from your mail client then I’d find a new mail client.

Once you have setup a mail account as POP, you can’t change it. You will have
to create a new mail account in order to use IMAP.
As I said, once POP mail has been downloaded from the server, you can’t put it
back. It is a one way deal.

I don't believe you can transfer anything from Outlook to the Apple mail
client. you just set up your mail account in the Apple mail client and move
forward from there. once you set up and start using an IMAP mail, you're good
to go moving forward. I don't think you can do anything about what was done
when you were using POP.

Re: Outlook On IMac

2020-02-08 Thread Brad Snyder
Once you have setup a mail account as POP, you can’t change it. You will have
to create a new mail account in order to use IMAP.
As I said, once POP mail has been downloaded from the server, you can’t put it
back. It is a one way deal.

Or is what is already on the computer going to need to be moved manually?

Re: Outlook On IMac

2020-02-08 Thread J. Cyr
Thank you to everyone who replied. The Outlook I am running isn't Office 365
I'm not sure if that makes a difference. I use my email A Lot, however, I
don't need it to do anything fancy. I just ended my twenty-one year
relationship with Outlook Express on Tuesday , ... should tell you all you need
to know about my email preferences to date. I've een (and am currently) using
the email on my IPhone. It sounds as though Apple Mail maybe the simplest
solution for me. Which raises the new question, how would I go about
transferring the contents of my Outlook into the Apple Mail? Because I have a
lot of contacts and reference information I want to keep!

Thanks for the help and advice,
Joy

Re: Outlook On IMac

2020-02-07 Thread Brad Snyder
I agree. The stock Apple Mail app on a Mac is the most VoiceOver accessible
mail app I have used.

While the Microsoft office suite has come along way, and is accessible on a
Mac, it still doesn't compare with the native apple Mac apps.

Outlook On IMac

2020-02-07 Thread J. Cyr
Good day,
I recently switched from a (Older) Microsoft PC to my new IMac. To put it
mildly I'm just fumbling around at the moment. I was wondering, is there a
guide for how to use Outlook (preferably using Voice Over)? And? Is Outlook
really the most accessible email app?

Any and all advice and suggestions are very welcome.
Thanks,
Joy
