Re: Dropbox on Mac

2023-06-08 Thread Herbie Allen
So, what you will want to do is to open the folder with Command O and then
paste. It will go directly into the folder. If not, then I would double check
your folder settings for Dropbox under preferences.

Re: Dropbox on Mac

2023-06-08 Thread Janet Ingber
Hi Mike,
How do I add a file to a shared folder? I’ve tried Copy and Paste, but instead
of going into the folder, my copy is at the bottom of the window. In other
words, it’s past all my Dropbox folders and files.

Any idea?

Best,
Janet

Yes, you do need to do an actual mouse click on the dropbox item to open it
now, hopefully they will fix that at some point.

Re: Dropbox on Mac

2023-06-07 Thread Herbie Allen
No, just bring up the context menu of the folder you want to go up to share…
and vo space or enter. It will then bring up a dialog and you can type in the
email address.

2023-06-07 Thread Lorie McCloud
yes. thanks. somebody taught me that little trick of changing the 0 at the end
of the url to a 1. I use it all the time. I’m talking here about sending a link
to a dropbox folder that somebody can upload to. that seems to be more
complicated. as far as I know you have to do it from the dropbox website. I
wish there was an easier and faster way.

Re: Dropbox on Mac

2023-06-07 Thread Herbie Allen
Two things. First, the other person should check their storage and if on a
computer, make sure their Dropbox is running. As for sending a link, go to the
context menu of any file or folder. Go up to copy link. I then suggest you
paste the link somewhere other than an email and change the final zzero to a
one. Then recopy that link and send it to the person. the one will give the
other person a download dialog making life a lot easier.

Hi Cara,
Thanks for your help. Actually, the folder was sent to me and I accepted the

If I copy and paste the new file into the folder, it does not sync. My Dropbox
does sync with my Mac and iPhone.

Thanks again,

Re: Dropbox on Mac

2023-06-07 Thread Cara Quinn
Hi Janet,

Is this a folder that you have created and shared with others? If it is, then
they will need to accept the invitation that Dropbox sends them and add that
folder to their Dropbox. At least this is how it worked last time I did it. I
use Dropbox all the time but haven’t shared a folder in a couple of months. So
hopefully this helps.

Once they have added that folder to their Dropbox, you or they can add or
delete files and it will synchronize for both of you.

Again, hope this helps.

Cheers!

Cara

Re: Dropbox on Mac

2023-06-07 Thread Janet Ingber
Thanks for all the great answer. I did get Dropbox installed on my Mac. I
can’t figure out how to send a link so someone can share a file. Also, I
thought if I were using a shared folder, putting a file in the folder would
automatically make it accessible with the other people who have access to the
shared folder. Apparently I’m wrong or am doing something wrong. Any help is
greatly appreciated.

The official Dropbox app was accessible when last I used it, which wasn’t
recently.
You can simply place a file in the Dropbox directory on your local machine to
upload it.

Re: Dropbox on Mac

2023-06-06 Thread Brad Snyder
Not sure about “uploading”, but you can easily send a download link by doing
the following:

1. Place the file you wish to share in the Dropbox folder in the Home folder
on your Mac.
2. Place focus on the folder, and open the shortcut menu.
3. From the shortcut menu, select Copy Dropbox Link.
4. Paste the link in an email message, and send it to whomever you wish to
share the file.
Note: To make the share as simple as possible, change the last character in
the pasted URL from a 1, to a zero. This way, when the link is selected, the
file will automatically download to the recipient’s downloads folder.

Re: Dropbox on Mac

2023-06-06 Thread Brad Snyder
You can download the Dropbox app for Mac or PC by opening your browser and
entering the following URL into the address field:

http://www.dropbox.com/downloading

The site will automatically determine your system/OS, and download the correct
installer to your downloads folder.
On Mac, the installer is a DMG file.
Doesn’t get any simpler than that.

Re: Dropbox for Mac client, menu accessibility

2022-03-10 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
Thank you – I’ll try the solution proposed. I also think they ought to fix the
menu invocation.

They have an accessibility page and a VPAT, but I couldn’t find contact details
for their accessibility department. In any case, I only have a free account, so
I’m not a paying customer at this stage.

Hi, I experience the same on my MacBook M1 Pro. I guess it's the new version
which eventually is compatible to the M1 chips. Unfortunately it's no longer
possible to see the status of up and downloads.
To open this menu it's not enough to use VO Space. You need to route the mouse
pointer there and perform a left mouse click.

Re: Dropbox on Mac (was: Scanning text on the MAC)

2015-09-22 Thread William Gallik
Eileen,

Like you, I am in transition from Windows to Mac. One thing I have done to help
this along is to migrate one activity at a time from the windows PC to my Mac.
For instance, I have my Gmail going to my mac rather than to windows. There are
other examples, but I don't want to bore anybody with the details. But I'm sure
you get the idea.

The point is, you don't have to do everything at one time. Just get comfortable
was one activity and then after you become comfortable with it, migrate
something else.

Re: Dropbox on Mac (was: Scanning text on the MAC)

2015-09-19 Thread Alex Hall
No question about learning the Mac is stupid. I did the same thing: fought with
it off an on for a year while using Windows, then finally had to use the Mac
when NVDA completely stopped working thanks to a bad speech driver back when
Nuance voices first came out. Once I got the hang of it in those few weeks, I
stayed with it, and now I dread the days I have to work with Windows for family
or clients. Don't forget that, right on the homepage of AppleVis.com, we have a
link to a bunch of resources for getting started with the Mac--podcasts,
guides, and the like.

2015-09-19 Thread Eileen Scrivani
Hi Phil,

Last year when I first got the Mac, I used the help feature and did go through
some of the tutorials. Some of it made sense and a lot more of it just made me
feel lost. Over the last year, I confess, I reverted back to Windows since I
can do things so much better and faster than on the Mac. My reason for buying
the Mac Book was & still is that I expect this Windows computer to crash within
a year or two. The last 2 to 3
Windows computers I have owned have all had problems that were not repairable.
Out of disgust I decided I wanted to learn how to use the Mac before it becomes
an emergency situation. So, a year later here I am still struggling to try and
make sense of the layout and how things work. I know its ridiculous and I’m
left just feeling really stupid!!

So, sorry for all my very basic questions. I will re-visit the help like you
suggest. Thanks.

The two popular ones are Prizmo ($50--don't bother with the $100
version) or Abbyy Fine Reader. Both seem to do well, though I haven't
compared them side by side. If you have an iOS device, I have to say
that I find the KNFB Reader app to be more convenient and just as
accurate, especially now that it has a stand mode.

Re: Dropbox on Mac (was: Scanning text on the MAC)

2015-09-19 Thread Eileen Scrivani
hi,

Thank you all who responded to my questions. I have DropBox downloading now on
the Mac. I have been using it for a while on Windows to share files with
another group. Its a matter of my learning how to use it on the Mac.

Currently, I am reading through the Tim Sniffen book, but I find he does a lot
for Zoom, and I’d find it easier if there was more of a focus on VO and would
rather learn more keyboard commands. I’ll try to learn as much as I can from
the book … anything that will help.

Thanks again.

Re: dropbox for mac

2011-08-25 Thread Paul Erkens
Hi Ricardo,
As far as I know, if you use dropbox on the mac, you won't be able to access
any of its settings, because voiceover can't see its icon in the menu bar.
People have to do something special, which I can't remember, to actually get
into the dropbox status menu item. Is that still true?

Hi,

as far as I'm aware the problem still exists. But, it doesn't even matter if
you did the work around to get to the dropbox icon in the status menu since the
settings window isn't even visible to voiceover. Darcy Bernard posted a way
around this but I can't remember it for the life of me. You might be able to
find it in the archives.
