Re: IRC CLient

2021-04-21 Thread Eric Oyen
Well,
It’s a client I have used for a long time. In any case, you can have the
windows separate out as individual windows or keep as tabs on one pane. It does
make it somewhat easier to keep track of things as well. Also, you can
configure with or without timestamps, or use handle or email (depending on how
the server is configured).

Also, Hex chat (and it’s previous incarnation) has been around for a
substantially long time. I was using it in OS X Lion and even in Snow leopard.

Instead of just asking me how great it is, why not get a copy and try it out?

Another irc client you can try is HexChat )formerly XChat). Sure, it’s a full
GUI client, but it does have some nice features that make it a dream to work
with VoiceOver.

What is an accessible IRC client?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

OK, I have two links for you ...

1.) Doing a quick Google search found the following page that seems
to be accurate, even though it thinks everyone in the world is using
JAWS:

2.) I trimmed out a lot of personal data from my irssi config and
posted it on line for you here:

https://rednote.net/irssi_example_config

Please note this is from my woring ~/.irssi/config file. However, it's
been put together over many years. There are undoubtedly things there
that don't matter. Mostly likely there are likely redundancies. I make
no claim for this being a clean file, just that it represents the blind
friendly configurations important to making irssi work with a screen
reader--at least for me.

Best,

Janina

Re: IRC client for either macOS or iOS

2020-01-23 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Yeah, let me see what I can dig up on that. It's been so long since I've
done it for myself, but I obviously have my config file.

Basically, as memory serves, you want to:

* Turn off the running clock -- and especially the to the second
* time stamping of each line of text.

* Get the entire IRC channel on one screen and avoid split screen
* presentations. This is the terminal, after all.

* Move status updates to the bottom line, then auto silence those.

I think those are the basics. Let me see what I can find that might be
more specifically helpful.

Best,

Janina

Hey, can you share what to configure to make IRSSI more blind friendly? I don’t

and quit, lol. With TDSR, yes, turn off VoiceOver, with Command + F5 on

Re: IRC client for either macOS or iOS

2020-01-23 Thread 'Janina Sajka' via MacVisionaries
Devin:

Just to clarify, TDSR is sufficiently reliable to do real work in the
Mac terminal? I'm assuming one silences VO in preference to TDSR while in
the Terminal? I presume there's a way to automate that?

I do agree on the IRSSI recommendation. It's a thoroughly powerful and
capable IRC client. It takes some configuration to make it blind
friendly, but it works very well indeed. I use it daily on Linux as part
of my W3C work.

The weakness on Mac has always been VO, imo.

Best,

Janina

Re: IRC client for either macOS or iOS

2020-01-20 Thread Greg Wocher
Hello,
Well I got colloquy for my iPhone. I did get connected to the server for my
class. However how do I see the messages? I can type a message and send it but
I do not see any kind of message list to see what I sent or what others sent.
Any help is appreciated.

On Mac, get TDSR , then get IRSSI from
Home-brew, and install IRSSI-sounds
. This will give you a pretty
accessible setup.

Re: IRC client for either macOS or iOS

2020-01-20 Thread 'Jason White' via MacVisionaries
Using the terminal with VoiceOver isn't as convenient as we would wish, but the
irssi IRC client can be installed and run from a shell prompt on the Mac.

If you have Homebrew, you can just install the irssi package and run it from
the shell.

There may be other accessible options, but at least this one is known to work.

well, sort of got it to work with adium. it reads log on messages as well
as private messages automatically. However, for some reason, I can't get it
to read actual channel traffic automatically. If I interact with the
control labeled unknown which is an html area, I can see it but no automatic
reading of any channel traffic.

very strange. I tried ircle and a couple of others with no success.

I've tried that app. Its' speech implementation is such that you almost don't
need VO, as all channel text can be set to be spoken, also without the need for
growl, but I didn't like that again, like in x-chat aqua, Zoom tracking didn't
work in the input field.
