Re: Hotspots not working properly.
Yes, Anne, I did do the clean install. I initially installed over Yosemite but had issues many more issues than now. So I took the plunge, researched it carefully and performed clean install. Hotspots and Safari holding onto VO focus although not every time nor consistently are the major issues for me now. The rest works very well indeed. Re: Hotspots not working properly.
Dear Anne, It's all very strange: some people can use hotspots and others don't. My hotspots don't stick at all, nor can I reliably set webspots. I may be able to use them within the same application but they won't work for more than a few times and then they stop. And if I call up hotspots chooser menu, Voiceover reports that the particular hotspot is inactive. I had reset the VoiceOver to its original settings as John Panarese had suggested but to no avail. I do hope that they will be fixed soon as I miss them. I also wanted to ask you whether you were experiencing problems with Safari holding onto the Voiceover focus and dragging it to itself when trying to command+tab from Safari into another application. I think it must be Voiceover problem because if I unload Voiceover and load it again, the problem disappears.. Another way which i have tried is to position my Voiceover cursor onto the toolbar in Safari and then I can tab away into another application. It's all beyond me. This behaviour is not consistent though but it does happen for me often enough to become a nuisance. The thing is Apple accessibility are telling me that they can't reproduce it so they won't work on it. And yet, others have experienced this problem as well. Thank you for writing. Re: Hotspots not working properly.
Hello Andrew, I can’t remember whether you’ve answered this already, but did you do a clean install of El Capitán? I’m seeing a lot of anomalies where people have simply updated rather than doing a clean install. Apple makes it all too easy to do that which is unfortunate for new Mac users, several of whom we’ve had to rescue in recent weeks. Hello Andrew, I can jump to a hotspot in another application as long as I’m using the basic activity, not one I’ve created myself. So, I can’t jump to a hotspot in Safari from Mail, because I have a special Mail activity with low verbosity and other variations from the norm. Ah, Thanks, John. I will reset Voiceover settings. Just heard from Apple accessibility regarding Safari grabbing Vo focus to itself whilst trying to command+tab to another app, and they are telling me they can't reproduce the problem and that it must be device specific. So please anybody who has this same behaviour, do report to Apple. > On 26 Oct 2015, at 22:45, John Panaresewrote: > > OK. Re: Hotspots not working properly.
Sometimes I get the impression, there are no hardcore VO users in Apples team. Would be good to have something like a Team Viewer connection to show them all the stuff they cannot duplicate. Would be a lot. ;-) I and my customers experience issues using Hotspots since Leopard. For me it never worked correctly. Sometimes it does for a while and then it stops all over sudden and certain Hotspots are inactive. It became less problematic since we could use them in Activities but currently they are broken as I described in El Capitan. > Am 27.10.2015 um 10:14 schrieb Andrew Lamanche: > > Ah, Thanks, John. hello, I've just read Anne's post carefully. I am unfortunately having problems with hotspots. I set a hotspot in one application, and then launch another app in which I wish to do some work. OK. Try resetting your VoiceOver preferences in the VoiceOver Utility to factory defaults. Re: Hotspots not working properly.
I tested Hotspot 2 today and it’s working for me. I usually set Hotspots from 6 to 0 as they are easier to get to quickly on a laptop keyboard, but I tried 2 with no problems. I could jump to it, monitor with it and consult it. I’m using a MacBook air from 2012 and did a clean install of El Capitán. I mainly use Hotspots in Pages. I can confirm this and I've written to the list about this before. Hotspots just don't stick at all. I had reported it in the beta testing and I've reported it since upgrading to El Capitan.
