Glad it worked. The message syncing is an awesome feature, but I certainly

Hi,

According to this support article from Apple:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208532

You need both 2FA (Two Factor Authentication) enabled and iCloud Keychain
enabled along with a few encouragements to make sure all MacOS and iOS devices
are updated to the latest versions. This may be your issue. These items can
be enabled within the iCloud pane of System Prefs.

If you need help, let us know.

Re: Synchronizing Messages Between Mac and iPhone

2019-08-24 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Hmmm. In the iMessages tab of Messages Prefs, with Settings selected, you
should have your Apple ID and a Sign Out button, then the checkbox for enabling
Messages in the Cloud, and one VO-right from that is a "Sync Now" button, then
the rest of the items such as the table with the list of iMessage addresses
connected with that Apple ID account.

Regarding the left over text from a previous message in the Mac version of
Messages, that seems to be a bug or some residual syncing issue. I've seen
that one lots as well. I've just got in a habit of making sure to check that
the field is empty before typing and sending. I've got caught a few times.
When in the field, I just do a cmd-a to select all, then press the Delete key.

Later...

Re: Synchronizing Messages Between Mac and iPhone

2019-08-24 Thread Petrus Tuerlings
Hi all,
I’ve been keeping up with this thread but now I’m a bit confused. My messages
on both devices seem to be sinking okay and if I message my wife on my Mac
it’ll update on the iPhone and the other way around. However if I delete a
message thread on the phone it’ll stay on the Mac and vice versa. Is this
normal?
Now I know this isn’t normal. I messaged my wife from the Mac early on in the
week as my phone was charging in the bedroom and I was making breakfast and my
Mac was near by on the dining table. The message went through fine, but a
couple of days later I went to message her again using the Mac and the edit
field in the messages app still had the first line of text in it from a couple
of days before. Even tho the entire message got sent. This has happened quite
a few times.

Re: Synchronizing Messages Between Mac and iPhone

2019-08-24 Thread 'Tim Kilburn' via MacVisionaries
Hi,

Hmmm. Just to add to the other side of the coin. Other than sometimes being
slow to sync, mine works as it should. Even complicated scenarios. For
example, while I was in England through July, I used an EE sim card and thus a
UK phone number. This new number automatically added to my Apple ID, and I
initiated past conversations so that folks would have my UK number in case they
needed to contact me. All conversations, whether individual or multiple group
style conversation, re-synced themselves so that I maintained the same threads.
Upon my return to Canada, I put my Telus sim card back in my iPhone and had a
challenge for for the rest of the day as one of my group conversations had
duplicated. This fixed itself overnight and now everything is back to the way
it should be. In the big scheme of things, this scenario was fairly
complicated, and the Messages iCloud syncing process worked. My messages are
also set to keep things forever and back conversations are fine. So, my point
is that I don't believe that Apple dropped the ball on this one at all. It
works properly for some and others appear to have issues. We just need to
figure out the process for clearing up those issues.

RE: Synchronizing Messages Between Mac and iPhone

2019-08-24 Thread Simon Fogarty
This I’m finding interesting,

I’m noticing the same thing on or between my iPhone x and apple watch Series 4,

I’m noticing that the messages I have showing on my devices don’t sync with
each other correctly if at all.

I have a happit of deleting messages that are one off or not part of a
conversation with friends or family,

If I delete one of these messages through the messages app on my watch it
doesn’t delete from my phones messaging app,

And the same is happening in the opposite way,

I thought this might be due to running a beta on my phone but it appears there
may be more going on.

I only syncronize between and iPhone and a Mac, but what I’ve found does work
for me is to go into Messages on my Mac, VO navigate over to the conversations
table, select a different conversation and briefly look at contents, then go
back to the original conversation and everything seems to be OK. Sounds weird,
but works for me.

group conversations, but works as it should in time. Contacts don't always
sync immediately, but will within less than one minute after opening the app.
If you have messages syncing to iCloud, then I suggest that you turn iMessages
off on the iPhone, restart the iPhone, then re-enable the iMessages service.
Because things are synced to iCloud, you shouldn't lose anything. Similarly,
you can do this on each of your other devices including your Mac if things
don't fix themselves after doing it on the iPhone. A simple restart will not
suffice, it seems like the resources connected with the iMessage service need a
reset, which is done by kind of resetting the service as I mentioned.

Hi,

Sounds like a timing issue. Syncing isn't perfect, but little tricks like that
help while the technology works out the kinks.

Re: Synchronizing Messages Between Mac and iPhone

2019-08-23 Thread Steve Matzura
I've had a similar problem since forever, Dave, even though all my
devices show I'm using iCloud for the Messages *and* Contacts
applications. What happens with me is that messages come to all my
devices--two Macs, one phone, one iPad, and if I delete from one, I'm
expecting that all the others will have that message deleted, too. But
they don't. With Contacts, if I add a contact using one device,  I fully
expect that it should appear on all the others, but it never does. Anyone
who can offer help on these two problems, which I suspect are related in
some very esoteric way, I greatly appreciate your efforts in advance.
