Re: iPad Question, was re: iCloud question

2012-12-02 Thread Ricardo Walker
When you tried to perform the triple press of home, did your mother, sister, or
a person at the place where they bought there device already set it up? If so,
this is probably why Voiceover didn't come on when you tried triple pressing
the home button.

Correct.

If the phone is configured as a standard device that doesn't use VO, then
Triple click home is not configured by default.

The triple click has to be the first thing you do on the device after the
screen comes up.

Re: iPad Question, was re: iCloud question

2012-12-02 Thread Ricardo Walker
Hello,

I think this is due to a miss understanding of How, why, and when
enabling/disabling Voiceover becomes the default action when triple press of
home is used. For example, you said your friend does not use voiceover. This
means, they did not use Voiceover to set up their iPad. If this indeed the
case, they would have to manually go into accessibility settings and enable
Voiceover in triple press of home. Since they are not a VO user, this probably
was never done. They just turned on VO for you, and handed you the iPad as is.
But, if they were a VO user, and in the initial setup they triple pressed
home, Voiceover would have came on. And, it would have automatically been set
as the default action when triple press of home was used.

Many people have there devices setup in stores by sighted people. When this is
done, Someone will have to turn on Voiceover for you or, you enable Voiceover
with iTunes on your computer. A triple press of home will not work.

The applications will be waiting for you in the Application Store. Just login
and switch over to Updates tab. Under the Updates tab is a purchased tab. I
also once listened to a podcast describing how to use iTunes to move
applications to the new IOS device. It could be that just plugging your iPad
mini into your computer while iTunes is running will be sufficient and it will
ask you if you want to transfer all your applications to the new system.

Best of luck!

I think it does treat tracks purchased from the iTunes store much like
apps in that you can go to purchased and then find the radio button
that says not on this computer and download those purchased tracks to
another device. Since I mostly rip CDs that doesn't help me much but the
few tracks I did purchase from iTunes have now floated around to all the
devices I have connected to my iTunes account.

Stacy,

Music does not get backed up to the cloud. Only contacts docs calendar
events, reminders, and apps.

As Alex described, sign in with your Apple user ID and you'll get those,
plus your apps via the purchased link in the app store.

Re: iPad Question, was re: iCloud question

2012-12-01 Thread Alex Hall
It seems to vary, but triple click home is not a guarantee, unfortunately. Have
your mac on hand just in case, or just have a sighted person help you; it's
only a few seconds, after all, then you're off and running. Since you already
have an iPhone, you will be fine with most of the gestures the iPad uses. Note
that swiping left and right with four fingers while an app is open will move
between other open apps, and pinching with four fingers and your thumb will go
to the home screen. Swiping four fingers up or down, I don't remember which,
will bring up the app switcher. Also, the rotor includes an item called
containers. For instance, in settings, the settings categories will be listed
on the left and the selected category will be on the right. These two different
parts of the screen are called containers, and you can swipe between them with
the rotor if you want to. The iPhone's screen is too small to include
containers so you won't have seen them before.

Ok, when the iPad arrives, do I need to set it up through iTunes or can I

Stacy,

Triple click home worked fine when we opened up our iPad Minis.

It may take a bit, but it does work by default on all IOS products now.

When my wife and I got our iPad Minis, it went without a hitch.

I hope it does work then. My mom got an iPhone5, and my friend and sister both
got the 4s, and triple click home did nothing on any of them. Yes, it is
supposed to be enabled by default, but experience has shown me that it is not
always actually done that way.

Re: iPad Question, was re: iCloud question

2012-12-01 Thread Jessica Moss
I actually noticed that myself, so glad I'm not alone. I just found out a
friend. Of mine has an IPad which she's still learning to use, and doesn't use
VoiceOver. I've never used an IPad before so got frustrated with it quickly,
especialy when I somehow turned the speech off and triple clicking the home
button didn't fix anything.
