Re: iBooks issue

2016-03-10 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Gary,

VO-s and VO-p both work for me, as do the commands for next sentence and next
paragraph. One thing I just checked, my mouse pointer is sitting on my desktop,
so have you got your mouse pointer following your VO Cursor and keyboard focus?
If so, try setting the mouse pointer to ignore the other cursors. I always have
this setting as I find that the mouse can destabilise VoiceOver.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi Anne,

I don't use Quicknav, so I wouldn't have figured that out. I have had the same
experience you write about when clicking on a book title. I have been able to
move around by pages, but not in a way that is consistent.

Re: iBooks issue

2016-03-10 Thread Anne Robertson
Hello Donna,

Like you, I can read with iBooks on my Mac with no trouble. However, a couple
of things worth noting:
Having pressed VO-Space on a book title, I often have to turn VoiceOver off and
back on again to be able to navigate;
The text area is to the right of the Previous Page button and it always goes
busy for a short while before I can interact with it and read the book;
Quick Nav does not work in iBooks.

I can read by character, word, line, sentence or paragraph, but not by page.
Read All works fine.

Cheers,

Anne

Hi all,

Re: iBooks issue

2016-03-10 Thread Christopher-Mark Gilland
Gary,

I tried, just as you, to use IBooks on the mac a while back, as I was told it
worked really well. There is a possibility that in Yosemite, it did. I
confess that I never tried it prior to El Capitan. I found almost identically
the same results as you. I could read a majority of the interface of the app,
but the book content itself, regardless the book loaded, wouldn't read hardly
at all.

I should add that this isn't the case on I O S. On I O S, it works
beautifully. I did report this to Apple, but I never really followed up with
them about it, as reading IBooks from the mac isn't really something I'd
normally wish to do. I'd prefer to just use my phone, or IPad and do it. That
however said, I definitely can confirm that I am able to reproduce your issues.

Chris.

I recently installed El Capitan and hadn’t used iBooks yet, but tried it just
now.
When I opened iBooks, I went to the book shelf table with my list of books
and interacted with it. I didn’t see another window/table with the contents,
so I double-click on my book, to open it. A window opened, but VO only dinged
when I tried to move around. I had to turn VO off and on in order to read the
book. If I interacted with the scroll area, I could only read my book a line
at a time, but if I didn’t interact with it, VO would read all the text
continuously.

Re: iBooks issue

2016-03-09 Thread Gary
I recently installed El Capitan and hadn’t used iBooks yet, but tried it just
now.
When I opened iBooks, I went to the book shelf table with my list of books and
interacted with it. I didn’t see another window/table with the contents, so I
double-click on my book, to open it. A window opened, but VO only dinged when
I tried to move around. I had to turn VO off and on in order to read the book.
If I interacted with the scroll area, I could only read my book a line at a
time, but if I didn’t interact with it, VO would read all the text continuously.

Re: iBooks issue

2016-03-09 Thread Blee Blat
Yup. Same here. Works lovely in iOS but OS X iBooks is a useless waste of disk
space. Someone said it could be internet issues but that's not the case here
since speed test shows I'm actually getting slightly more throughput than
advertised by the ISP. So I think they've just broken something.

Hello All,

I wanted to know if people are having issues with iBooks? When I open a book,
I can’t seem to read it. I place focus on the text, and interact with it. but
it makes iBooks go busy, or even restart/ lockup some.

I’m fully updated on my ox x 10.11.

resolution of ibooks issue

2014-09-19 Thread Donna Goodin
Hi all,

Again, excuse cross-post, but want to provide info to both lists in case anyone
needs it.

I called tech support again this morning, and finally got someone who knew what
they were doing. I don't understand why, but I was never able to re-download
books from within the iBooks app, I had to do it by going into iTunes, iTunes
store, and using the download all button. That got all books back onto my
computer. We then went over to my phone, and the books then showed up on my
phone. I'm still a little unclear about what the issue was. When I first went
into iBooks on the phone, PDFs was selected, but that had not been the case
before--I'm sure of this, because I tried selecting and unselecting it when I
was working on this yesterday and nothing changed, I'm as suing I'd just left
it selected after one of the many things I tried before.. But this time when I
selected all books, my books were displayed properly. So I'm assuming that
re-downloading in iTunes did something, but I don't really know what.

So, I know they're not conclusive steps, and I wish I had more definitive
advice to offer, but I would say that if you encounter this problem, try
re-downloading through iTunes. then see if that makes them show up on the
phone.

Cheers,
Donna

Re: iBooks issue on iPod touch and possibly iPhone

2010-06-22 Thread Scott Howell
Hi Esther, I tried this last night and encountered the same issue. I
double-tapped the Free button and when nothing happen, I found a button that
was labeled something similar to language English or something along those
lines. I double-tapped that button and then was prompted for my iTUnes
password. So, this appears to be some sort of accessibility issue.
It took me two tries to figure it out, but I must say, very interesting.

button that you double tap again to confirm your selection/purchase. Then
you are prompted to enter your iTunes password. What I had to do on my iPod
Touch was locate the button where Get Book should have shown up by moving
my finger up slightly from Get Sample button. Then I toggled VoiceOver off
and tapped once in that location, and toggled VoiceOver back on. I was at
the window where VoiceOver prompts you for you iTunes password, so I typed
that in and the book downloaded. The second time, I tried a double tap and
hold on the button. This might only have worked because my iTunes password
was still active, though. I would report this as an accessibility issue.
The books did show up in my library after I typed in the iTunes password, but
I was experimenting with free books for this trial run.

Re: iBooks issue on iPod touch and possibly iPhone

2010-06-21 Thread Mary Otten
Hi all,
I have installed the Ibooks app on my touch. I'm getting the impression that to
purchase or just get free books, I have to do that from within the app; there
is a 'store button. I was hoping I could shop on my Mac and synch up with the
Touch, but I'm not seeing any sort of ibooks entry there except for the app
itself in the Iphone section of the app store. Am I missing something obvious
yet again? Or must one purchase ibooks on the device one wishes to read them on?
Is there suppose to be a free book that comes along with the app? I'm not
seeing anything installed. I see the bookshelf and title, author and category,
which I presume are ways of sorting the material. but my list is said to be
empty, which would seem to indicate the absence of a sample test book with the
app.
