Re: IOS & watch beta question

2016-08-16 Thread Daniel Miller
Actually, once you've upgraded your watch to a beta version of watchOS, there
is no way to restore back to the shipping version yourself. You need to send
your watch back to Apple so they can do it for you.

 Hi!
Last saturday i woke up finding my Iphone drained from 50% to 0.
Ok, so i charged my phone.
Now today when i woke up my Iphone was drained from 60% so i had to
 recharge it again.
It makes me wonder if something is wrong with my Iphone SE.
Or is this something that can happen sometimes?
To be honest i am on the public beta with it so it might be that to but
thought i’d might ask here for advice before i do something else.
 Thanks in advance.

RE: Iphone Battery drain makes me worrid.

2016-08-16 Thread Simon Fogarty
Interesting,

My beta version says IOS 10 through the software update and then 10.0.14 I
think it is when looking at the about this phone
But yet there are no updates available so I can only assume that my phone is
completely up to date.

Hi Chris

 Fully understand that one,
I do know that if things go crazy the removal is done through the same process
of how you install, its just a case of uninstalling the OS through removing the
profile previously installed.

Easy way to search FaceBook on iOS? Is there a way?

Is there an accessible way to search FaceBook in their app for iOS? When I do a

if Pictures are displayed instead of names or what. Any help on this would be

You would think after all this time they would have things like this fixed!

No, the problem is that when in laptop layout the "JAWS" key is the caps
lock key and the insert key is no longer associated with the
"jaws+functions". There might be a "use key for JAWS key" type setting in
the settings center under the default configuration, or you you could edit
default.jkm and change all of the "jaws+" to insert+" and then go about
your JAWS work. Oh, you only want to change these in the region starting
with [laptop] and ending with the next [].

I won't be using JAWS until later this afternoon, so I can't check the
specifics. If nobody replies to then I will check into this after I have my
Windows VM running.

Actually, once you've upgraded your watch to a beta version of watchOS, there
is no way to restore back to the shipping version yourself. You need to send
your watch back to Apple so they can do it for you.

I know nothing about how accessible it is, I am just passing along what I
found. In Windows, one needs the Amazon mp3 downloader to download these
files. I googled to find out if there is such a thing for the mac, and
apparently there is. Google Amazon mp3 downloader for mac, and if it finds
something, install it and see if you can use it. Being so new to the mac, I
definitely would not be the one to test this mp3 downloader.

Re: amazon's accesability contact.

2016-08-16 Thread E.T.
Mark Taylor posted some information probably last year about
downloading music via web interface.

I have not done this as I have not bought music in a while. I am
pasting below the information Amazon sent to Mark.

As an alternative, you can download your music directly through your web
browser. To help make this easier, we've completely redesigned web
browser downloading. It now gives you the option to download albums and
multiple tracks at the same time using .ZIP files. ZIP is a file format
that compresses content for quicker transfer.

You can download music through your browser after completing a Digital
Music Store purchase, from Your Orders
(https://www.amazon.com/yourorders), and from your music library
https://www.amazon.com/musiclibrary

Just select the albums or songs you want to download and click the
"Download" option onscreen. If prompted to install the Amazon Music app
for PC and Mac, you can click "No thanks, just download music files
directly."

For multiple songs and albums, your download starts automatically in a
pop-up window, and is split into one or more .ZIP files. You can click
the files in the download window once they're ready to save to your
computer. If you've only selected one song, it downloads as an
individual .MP3 file.

To complete your download:

1. Choose "Save" if your browser asks whether you want to open or save
the file(s).

2. Open the file(s) once the download is complete. Most browsers display
the status of your download onscreen, and then give you an option to
open it.

3. Files typically save to your browser's default "Downloads" folder.
You can then move each of the music tracks you've downloaded to the
preferred location on your computer (e.g. "Your Music" or "Music").

Tip: To add your downloaded music to iTunes, launch the iTunes app and
select "Add File to Library" from the menu. Browse to the file or
location where you saved your download, then select each track you want
to add and confirm.

To learn more about downloading music through your browser, go to:
https://www.amazon.com/help/music/zipdownloads

You can also use the Amazon Music app for PC and Mac to download music
to your computer. With the Amazon Music app, you can play and download
your music library, automatically export your downloaded music to iTunes
or Windows Media Player, and more. For additional information,
including installation instructions, go to:

Hi Chris

Fully understand that one,
I do know that if things go crazy the removal is done through the same
process of how you install, its just a case of uninstalling the OS through
removing the profile previously installed.

Smart thermostat with Amazon Alexa

2016-08-16 Thread ben J. Bloomgren
Hello all,

My family recently got an Ecobee Smart thermostat. It turns out that we did not
get the correct version to work with Apple HomeKit. However, I fear that it
works with Amazon Alexa. Has anybody on here used this or similar smart
thermostat with Alexa for iOS? What is your experience?

Mark Taylor posted some information probably last year about
downloading music via web interface.

I have not done this as I have not bought music in a while. I am
pasting below the information Amazon sent to Mark.

As an alternative, you can download your music directly through your
web browser. To help make this easier, we've completely redesigned web
browser downloading. It now gives you the option to download albums
and multiple tracks at the same time using .ZIP files. ZIP is a file
format that compresses content for quicker transfer.

You can download music through your browser after completing a Digital
Music Store purchase, from Your Orders
(https://www.amazon.com/yourorders), and from your music library
https://www.amazon.com/musiclibrary

Just select the albums or songs you want to download and click the
"Download" option onscreen. If prompted to install the Amazon Music
app for PC and Mac, you can click "No thanks, just download music
files directly."

Most browsers
display the status of your download onscreen, and then give you an
option to open it.

Browse to the file or
location where you saved your download, then select each track you
want to add and confirm.

To learn more about downloading music through your browser, go to:
https://www.amazon.com/help/music/zipdownloads

You can also use the Amazon Music app for PC and Mac to download music
to your computer. With the Amazon Music app, you can play and download
your music library, automatically export your downloaded music to
iTunes or Windows Media Player, and more. For additional information,
including installation instructions, go to:
https://www.amazon.com/getamazonmusic

I have not done this as I have not bought music in a while. I am

As an alternative, you can download your music directly through your
web browser. To help make this easier, we've completely redesigned web
browser downloading. It now gives you the option to download albums
and multiple tracks at the same time using .ZIP files. ZIP is a file
format that compresses content for quicker transfer.

You can download music through your browser after completing a Digital
Music Store purchase, from Your Orders
(https://www.amazon.com/yourorders), and from your music library
https://www.amazon.com/musiclibrary

Just select the albums or songs you want to download and click the
"Download" option onscreen. If prompted to install the Amazon Music
app for PC and Mac, you can click "No thanks, just download music
files directly."

Most browsers
display the status of your download onscreen, and then give you an
option to open it.

Browse to the file or
location where you saved your download, then select each track you
want to add and confirm.

I suppose I will find out as I sent him a copy of the email I provided the

Speaking only for myself, I would hope he took an interest.
The lack of keyboard interaction, most notably on the areas defined as

web access content guidelines, 2.0 developed by the w3c, these rules
govern accessibility and inclusive web design in many countries. Reflected

In some places failing to follow WACG 2.0 is a violation of human rights

Re: amazon's accesability contact.

Given the fact that the email address you have is for Peter corn, the excess
ability head guy at Amazon, I wouldn't expect a reply from that address from
him personally. That sounds like something that would not be something he would
directly deal with as head of the whole department.

The web accessibility initiative groups have been generating guidelines
for
access for well decades.

visit www.w3c.org
If you wish to educate yourself about the rules.
One basic guideline is that all functions are to work from the keyboard.
Making the several links on the for screen reader use pages on the amazon
website which seem to require a mouse a bit of a problem.

web access content guidelines, 2.0 developed by the w3c, these rules
govern accessibility and inclusive web design in many countries. Reflected
in say section 508, stateside, and considered by some to be the web
extension of the Americans with disabilities act.

In some places failing to follow WACG 2.0 is a violation of human rights
laws since a person with a disability is equally entitled to access
 goods and services.

Indeed, there should be no separate site. after all access is more than
about screen readers. How an individual interacts is tied to other
things.the changes to the so called access site are rather new. I
agree about the watered down functionality as well. Unless this has
changed you cannot download digital items at all from their /access area,
which is why the main site must work.
I prefer to feel mr.. Korn takes his over all practices seriously...we shall
learn I dare say.

Most browsers
display the status of your download onscreen, and then give you an
option to open it.

Browse to the file or
location where you saved your download, then select each track you
want to add and confirm.

2016-08-16 Thread jeff `greene
Hi Helga and Scott,
Well, I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe Jaws doesn't like the
command key as insert, I would try making the ` or \ keys as insert.
I'm going to install jaws 17 tonight on my mac running windows 10
under bootcamp, and I'll play around with it.
Best, Jeff

Why bother, just use Sharpkeys to map the physical key of your choice to the
insert key.

No, the problem is that when in laptop layout the "JAWS" key is the caps lock
key and the insert key is no longer associated with the "jaws+functions".
There might be a "use key for JAWS key" type setting in the settings center
under the default configuration, or you you could edit default.jkm and change
all of the "jaws+" to insert+" and then go about your JAWS work. Oh, you only
want to change these in the region starting with [laptop] and ending with the
next [].

I won't be using JAWS until later this afternoon, so I can't check the
specifics. If nobody replies to then I will check into this after I have my
Windows VM running.

Best Wishes,

Jonathan Cohn

Re: Easy way to search FaceBook on iOS? Is there a way?

2016-08-16 Thread Douglas Lawlor

Hello Jessica
I just figured out how to do this.

1. In the FaceBook app Double tap the "Search Facebook" at the top of the
screen below the status bar.
2. Type your text in the edit box.
3. After a few seconds swipe right and you should see results.
4. If you press the search button on the on screen keyboard you will get a new
screen containing results.
5. Towards the top of this screen you will see the different items you can
select such as people, places, photos, pages, etc. Do not tap on any of these.
The search results containing text are below and can be accessed.

How to Do this with a keyboard.

1. In the Facebook app Press Control + UpArrow to go to the top of the screen.
2. Press Up + Down Arrow to activate the search FaceBook item.
3. You should hear something like "Edit Text Field, QuickNav off, Search
FaceBook".
4. QuickNav is not off so press Left + Right Arrow to turn it off again.
5. Enter your search text and turn QuickNav back on.
6. Wait a second or two then navigate right and you should see search results.
7. If you press the enter key after typing your text you will get a new screen.
8. Towards the top of this screen you will see the different items you can
select such as people, places, photos, pages, etc. Do not tap on any of these.
The search results containing text are below and can be accessed.

Re: Easy way to search FaceBook on iOS? Is there a way?

2016-08-16 Thread Dora Speck
Go to the search field type in what you're looking for. Without going out of
the text field swipe right until you hear the name of the group you're looking
for and then double tap. Once you get into that group you are looking for, do a
join request. Do not hit the search button, just stay with in the text field. I
found this helps.

Re: amazon's accesability contact.

2016-08-16 Thread Mary Otten
No. Peter corn has been doing accessibility for a very long time. He certainly
is familiar with the guidelines and the nuts and the bolts. But he is not going
nor should we expect him to answer everyone's complaint. They certainly should
have people further down the line from Peter corn who can deal with consumer
complaints. If they don't, they need to hire more people. This would be like
writing to some executive at apple and expecting them to deal with your
specific complaint about a voiceover bug.

Honestly that depends on Mr. Korn's personal background.
Sometimes management leads with their own experience of a disability,
instead of recognizing that inclusion refers to the floor not the person
using  the floor.
One does not find a different Walmart for those arriving in a van then
say those on a skateboard, so one should not have a different amazon for
those who prefer less clutter when they shop.
Sometimes, as with say paypal, the person listed as
being in charge of accessibility seemingly gets paid to pretend a disability
with a demo.
I have an email from an amazon supervisor stating that the company takes
inclusion seriously. given it is far easier for them to be sued in some
countries where they do business over access than stateside, I intend
believing they sincere until I learn otherwise.
applying a generalized expectation sometimes leads to poor results or so I
personally feel.
