Mine installed it once I added to my list of application catalogs the Maemo repository at http://repository.maemo.org with distribution: bora and component: free non-free. Gnumeric would not even install until I added that catalog because it could not find the libglade2-0 library. Hope that helps.

Yes. When I was having problems I didn't have any virtual memory
enabled. I increased it 8 MB (all the space I had left on my flash
card) and was able to install Canola fine after that. Just a thought
as to what might be going wrong with installing a large package.

Do you have xterm installed?

  apt-cache policy gnumeric

will give you most of the information (it shows only the hostname of the
main repository url and thus you cannot distinguish maemo from maemo
extras).

  apt-cache show gnumeric|grep Filename

will show you where to find the .deb on the repository server, which can
sometimes help you guess the rest.

Unable to install on my 770: first it ran out of disk space (a couple of

removed some files, tried again, got problems again, rebooted (and had
free space jump up from 18 to 24 megs), and now I get a different error

During unpacking, IIRC.

Heh, the Installing tab tells me gnumeric requires 32 megs of device
memory. I have 24 megs free. It would be nice if the application
manager checked the space requirement before installing.

This is a 770 with OS2006.3 (gregale).

I clicked on the name in the app manager (which probably means
dowloaded it every time, unless there's some download cache that persists
during pseudo-reboots that happen while the charger is plugged in).

Could it be that the file was truncated because there wasn't enough free
space? But wouldn't that cause a different error?

Ok. If it is a single package, then I wouldn't expect it to be
broken afterwards, it should just not be listed as installed. With
multiple packages, however, things are more interesting...

Heh, the Installing tab tells me gnumeric requires 32 megs of device

Yes, we could do that, but the involved numbers are really imprecise.
They can be off by a factor of two or so, I'd say, in both directions.
The package usually doesn't tell you how much space it really will
take on a compressed file system like JFFS2, and a compressed
filesystem like JFFS2 doesn't tell you how space really is free.

There is a download cache (the usual one in in
/var/cache/apt/archives/), but the Application Manager clears it after
every operation. It could contain something when the device reboots
in the middle of an installation.

Could it be that the file was truncated because there wasn't enough free
