Thanks. For reference, and potential update to the docs, this can be
done like this:

`mkdir -p Library/Application\ Support/MailMate/Resources/KeyBindings`

And you can kickstart customisation based on the Gmail file like this:

`cp
/Applications/MailMate.app/Contents/Resources/KeyBindings/Gmail.plist
~/Library/Application\
Support/MailMate/Resources/KeyBindings/Custom.plist`

And open this in an editor of your choice:

`edit ~/Library/Application\
Support/MailMate/Resources/KeyBindings/Custom.plist`

[MlMt] Customising key bindings

2019-09-11 Thread Charlie Clark

Hi,

in the docs it says that I can put custom keybindings in the following
folder:

~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Resources/KeyBindings/

The thing is, I don't even have a Resources folder underneath MailMate.
Do I just need to create the path? Or are the docs possibly out of date?

Seeing as you can no longer trial AirMail, I can't say with certainty
but I suspect that they're doing something similar to Opera Mail and
implementing the labels on the client-side only. A lot to be said for
this approach, though at the expense of some interoperability.

A couple of misfeatures:

Related to this, I don't understand what happens when I put Airmail
tags on a message, and how to make Airmail's tags visible to MailMate.
MailMate can see "star" (flag), but nothing else.

This was one of the main draws to the Preside iOS App for me: the
ability to have tags interoperate between it and MailMate.

Plus it's as customizable as MM, though the preferences screens remind
me of that old text base game when it would say: "you are in a maze of
twisty little passages, all alike" :-)

If anyone has suggestions about how to do that, I'd be grateful. I
probably just need to look at the message headers and see what's there
when Airmail tags, and try to extend MM to see that. But TBH it's
likely I won't get to that any t time soon.

4. create a mailbox “new mail”
5. set the “mailboxes” tab to have

 Mailing lists
I hope the indentation carries through properly as it is critical.

It did, though you might find the markdown syntax useful:

https://github.com/adam-p/markdown-here/wiki/Markdown-Cheatsheet#lists

Though I've found the preview function so sluggish, I generally have it
disabled. Mind you, I've been using plaintext markup for **years**.
 ;-)

6. You can set on the “Conditions” tab “Message not Read” to
see only unread messages

The “New Mail” mailbox should show all your mail except those that
are in your mailinglists.

Yes, I worked that out. But I was looking for a way of doing this
without creating a slew of new mailboxes, ie. sticking as close to what
I'm used to as possible. The way Opera Mail does this very similar to
MailMate but I'd argue slightly more intuitive, though it's more
restricted in other ways, such as being able to create views from a
search.

The current setup is to create folders (smart mailboxes without
criteria) and add individual lists to these (find isn't brilliant for
these). These can then be excluded from the catch all mailing list.

For 2 and 3, you can use the simpler setup suggested earlier if your
mailinglists are uniform and can be all identified within a single
smart mailbox. In my case, for some lists I use List-Id, for others
from-address, for others to-address, for some I need to additionally
check for an identifier in the subject.

Fortunately, all the ones I have can be correctly identified via a
list-id header, though auto-completion doesn't work that well.

Still, given that I only started with the program on Monday, I'm really
enjoying it. :-)

Okay, this doesn't work quite as expected. Once a new mail arrives on
a list, the list gets added to the general Mailing Lists folder but
does not appear in the dedicated mailbox. I can appreciate this is
because of the slightly circular logic and can work around it, but it
would be nice if something like this could be added.
