What do you mean by *do something with similar messages*?

I have many smart mailboxes with quite complex filter rules.

How can I find out if I'm using *similar messages*? Searching *similar* in the
file *~/Library/Application Support/MailMate/Mailboxes.plist* didn't show any
hits.

Everyone's use case differ of course. For me email is my working backlog and
main conversation management system.

I use the *Correspondence* sub view all the time, because this gives me
immediate context information, which is a killer feature, because this is super
fast.

I use search as a starting point to narrow down to all emails with a specific
attachment, person, keywords, etc. and then use the Correspondence view to get
more into context.

That looks much like a file-based approach to store data, which wouldn't scale
if things are read on-demand and need to be parsed.

Using a classical database with indexes and the mail information MM recognizes

Well, MM already handles all this, otherwise we couldn't use it as we do. Those
parts are will known to MM.

> Very large mail stores are inherently tough to search.

After pre-processing all the mail mess, I don't think so. Searching in Gmail is
fast. MM is already much better than other clients.

IMO the use-case search *1+ million emails as fast as possible* is just not in
scope for most of the clients.

Why *must* it be copied that way?

When I drag the file to another location, I clearly say: *I want to work with
that file at this place.* I don't need any software that tries to think for me
or protect me from doing what I want.

At least, this super annoying feature should be an option, like: *Keep
read-only flag to reduce my productivity*

> To get a copy to work on, just click on the handy “download” button right

Unfortunately, that *download button* doesn't know where I want to put that
file. So it goes to the download folder, and I need to pick it from there, move
it around, etc.

That's violating the only relevant KPI in any application: *number of clicks to
result*

Benny, please revert this ASAP or make it optional. This has the potential to
move away from MM because this is really driving me nuts.

Ok, as I thought.

The person sending me the email accidentally encrypted it.

However, I still see an indirect pressure into the market, when more and more

The only company I'm aware about that consequently uses PGP or S/MIME encrypted

[MlMt] Office 365 / Encrypted Emails

2022-10-26 Thread Robert M . Münch
Hi, I just received an encrypted email from an Office 365 user (attached as
*message_v3.rpmsg file).

1. What kind of encryption does Office 365/Outlook use?

2. Is that something external mail clients can support?

3. @Benny: Is support planned?

I mean, many companies are using this office stuff, and I would go mad, if I
now receive hundreds of emails, where I have to click a link to access them.

This smells a bit like an intended MS strategy to push more and more people
into their ecosystem by making things not working together, while activating
encryption by default for all customers.

[MlMt] Many strange behaviors since a couple of days...

2021-09-17 Thread Robert M . Münch
Hi,

I updated to 5822 but found that it’s too buggy (correspondent view is not
resizable; some shortcuts don’t work), so, I reinstalled 5820, which I used
before without any problems.

But now ECS no longer works to clear the search, it deletes the text but the
search state is kept and all the other mails are not shown. Selecting any
folder I don’t see my mails. I have to select *All Messages* and with some
luck, the other folders show their content again.

I really don’t have any clue what’s going on or where these effects come from.

Any idea?

Viele Grüsse.

I add the "Source Mailbox" to my list view and found out that the duplicate
emails had different source Mailboxes.

The duplication showed up because I used "All Messages" (which include all
source mailboxes) and not only to "Inbox" (which is only the Inbox mailbox from
Gmail) as a parameter to the setting "of the following mailboxes."

And the root cause was that a CRM system I use created a new Gmail mailbox for
keeping track of email communication.

This mail duplication effect is an excellent example of several side-effects
forming a situation not intended at all but still possible to achieve.

[MlMt] Some mails are shown twice in the inbox

2021-04-16 Thread Robert M . Münch
Hi, since a couple of days some mails are shown twice in my inbox and within
smart mailboxes. If I mark one read it takes a bit and the other vanishes. I’m
connected to Gmail and there I see the mails only once.

Any ideas what this could be about? How to fix this?

Yes, read it… but OK, my fault. I really thought that all major systems used by

2021-01-19 Thread Robert M . Münch
Hi, I’m using 5757 since I abandoned Beta-v2 but fight a lot of annoying little
bugs.

I now see that my name is screwed up like:

for many replies I get. That wasn’t the case in the past. Any idea what this
could be?

Since switching to R5757 I used: `defaults write com.freron.MailMate

It works for some mails I answer but for quite many not.

My suspicion is that it’s more likely that MM fails wrapping mails from

[MlMt] R5757 / Some quirks

2021-01-06 Thread Robert M . Münch
Hi, I’m recognizing some quirks in version 5757 and wanted to cross-check if
others see the same:

1. Wrapping of quoted text, when the editor size is changed doesn’t reflow. In
the past MM reflowed the text and added a > independent if there were hard line
breaks or not. Now it doesn’t which is very annoying.

2. I have several email addresses linked to my Google account. It looks like MM
now always shows the first one in TO for received emails. Which will be used in
a reply as well. In the past MM just used the one I send the initial mail with…
again, very annoying.

Are these known problems? Are there are any fixes?

Automation that uses external services and local data. Like storing attachments
to the right place on my machine, creating a user account, sending out some

What do you mean by delete? A „smart mailbox“ is just a view on your inbox,
nothing more. If the smart mailbox is gone, the view is gone, not the mails you
saw in it.

So, your loss is just that you need to re-create your smart mailboxes.

There was a thread „due dates?“ last year that might related to this topic.

these. Is that somehow possible to do with the current MM features?

I created a follow up folder which tracks emails from the past X (at the moment

come up in X days if no answer was received.

[MlMt] Reminder / Follow-Up marking of mails

2018-02-22 Thread Robert M. Münch
Hi, I have to deal with about 100 emails a day and many concurrent action
threads. Those action threads are lasting from a couple of days up to several
months. For business related things I'm using a CRM system to keep track of all
activities. However, I don't want to use a CRM for my private things too ;-)

So, what I would like to do is, that I can flag/mark/... a mail so that I will
see it again automatically after a specific period if I didn't receive any
answer.

Any ideas how I could do such work-flow with MM and maybe a bundle or script or
whatever it takes?

I'm using Gmail as mail backend and know that I can program it with JS. Maybe a
combination of MM action and Gmail recognizing it?

Viele Grüsse.

Hi, I have the same problem for some senders. Why is this the case? Any idea?
If I use the GPG command line tools, everything works.

Why is this fine? IMO if the message can be encrypted by the command line
tools, MM should be able to do it too.

Same here, even I see some different service menus. I don't have a clue how it
is decided which service menu items, as configured in the system preferences,
show up in an application or not.

How about just exporting these files on Dropbox/... and importing them again on
startup if they are available? Keeping configs in sync on many machines is
really a key-feature these days.

That was the missing link. Thanks.

How about putting this into the GUI of the search bar. Proximity of functions &

Ok, the problem is, that MM doesn't remember the "last used view" between
sessions, for this particular sort ordering.

So, every time MM starts, the sort order is reset.

Any chance to change/fix this?

Hi, that's what I expected.

Ok, I can't remember to do that but maybe that is the cause. In such a case the
message list is positioned to the bottom not the top. Which I would prefer.

I was wondering why MM forgot my selection. Does it keep it if I change the
sorting order? I would prefer to always select the last message and position
the message list view so that I can see it.

Conclusion: I'm going to keep an eye on it to see if MM is behaving/doing
something that changes the last view.

[MlMt] Sort by unread / Selection Bar Always at Bottom

2017-09-06 Thread Robert M. Münch
Hi, I have some smart boxes, which I sort in a way that I have all unread
messages on the top and those are sorted by "date received". So far so good.

The problem is, whenever I click on such a mailbox MM selects not the top
message but the bottom one. Which means I have to scroll-up to see the relevant
messages.

What can I do, so MM always selects the top-message?

[MlMt] Click to show mails from / to

2017-04-27 Thread Robert M. Münch
Hi, I like the feature where I can just click an email address for a quick
search. But there are two quirks:

1. I would like to see FROM and TO messages. Now I either see FROM or TO based
on the header field the email address was clicked on. Using ALT or CTRL etc.
doesn't work. Maybe this can be used? And a preference would be nice to chose
to query for FROM and TO.

2. It looks like the search doesn't update / keep in sync the conversations
view.

Hi, I think that's Appel's sandboxing where apps are run from random paths. LS

I think in S/MIME exist different types of certificates as I own one for
signing but that can't be used for encryption. Not sure how this is handled.

What is strange is this: I received an email where MM stated that it was
successfully S/MIME decrypted. But I don't have any S/MIME encrypting
certificate. So I'm wondering why MM displays this message. Further I don't
have a clue how the one who send me the email would have gained access to my
S/MIME certificates.

How do I add this to the keychain? Can I access the certificate anyhow?

[MlMt] S/MIME & PGP preferences

2017-02-15 Thread Robert M. Münch
Hi, since I need both I have enabled both in the preferences. For S/MIME I have
a signing certificate on a special USB device which requires a password to
access it. My normal encryption & signing is done via PGP.

The Problem is, that MM always sets S/MIME as default, when composing new
mails, which triggers the password entry. There is no way to make PGP the
default (at least not via the GUI).

Any change to make PGP default for new messages?

[MlMt] S/MIME Encryption

2017-02-13 Thread Robert M. Münch
Hi, I received an encrypted S/MIME message which was successfully decrypted. At
least that's what MM shows.

1. I'm wondering how this works as I can't remember to send my S/MIME
certificate. Is there something like a key-server for S/MIME as well?

2. Answering the email with encryption & signing doesn't work. I get: "Failed
to find valid certificate to encrypt for xyz@abc.com. The specified item
could not be found in the keychain. Error code: -25300" (Note: This text is
shown twice). But I can see the certificate for the recipient in one of my
keychains.

3. When trying to send the email I need to enter the password for a signing
certificate I own. This is the first keychain in the keychain app. But this
certificate is not for encryption. Could it be that MM just access the first
keychain and doesn't search through all of them?

You create a filter for each category or is there a generic one possible that
can handle all categories?

Ok, that worked. Wondering how it was enabled as I think I didn't done it.

Ok.

Can this "dragged action" somehow be "deleted" so MM doesn't try it over and
over again? Or is this "failed" state coming from a one-time action in the
past? If, any way to get rid of this state?

The mailbox and childs are currently online.

[MlMt] Can't set MM as default mail client

2017-01-06 Thread Robert M. Münch
I now tried several times to set MM as my default mail client. But it fails.
When quitting & restarting it, Apple mail is the default again. Same when I
click any mailto: references. Apple mail is started instead of MM.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Yes, sure. I have those options enabled, hence I assume it's only trigged for
"fully encrypted" message but not partial ones.

Do you use a Google Mail account? If, it's their spam detection. I have the
same. You need to train it a bit.

[MlMt] BUG: Option "Sign & Encrypt if ..." not triggered for partly decrypted message.

2017-01-05 Thread Robert M. Münch
When I receive partly decrypted messages and reply, the message isn't set to
encrypt. IMO this should be the case, as it's better to send an encrypted
message by default then an unencrypted (which can be dangerous).

Not that I need it in the near future, but I just played around with JXA
(Javascript for Automation) and this is very cool. So, if MM would expose
functions, items etc. via an JXA interface (which is actually AppleScript) we
could script MM. Remembers me about the AREXX times on Amiga.

Hi, not that I have a solution for you but I just want to "vote" for such an
option too. I use a desktop and a laptop and would like to have both setup the
same way. One idea might be to do a sym-link for the MM files / directories
which goes to a drop-box folder.

However, best if MM would allow to specify where prefs are stored and handles
updates to it dynamically while running.

Hi, the GPG Keychain shows it as fully trusted (which makes sense for my
context) and would show it "untrusted" for others. Since I expect the same
"check approach" it should yield "trusted" to MM as well.

Thanks, for the pointer. I just switched key-server and published my pubic-key.
You can see it here:

Which indicates a time-out. Can you please re-try? The new key upload should
already have spread to all the different key-servers.

[MlMt] PGP Usage & Untrusted Keys

2017-01-03 Thread Robert M. Münch
Hi, I'm using PGP and I get the following message when sending an encrypted
email in a dialog with a "Trust Once" button:

USERID_HINT E12C4810802DFEF0 Robert M. Münch <robert.mue...@saphirion.com>
NEED_PASSPHRASE E12C4810802DFEF0 7553390AF5349968 1 0
GOOD_PASSPHRASE
INV_RECP 10 <a...@xyz.com>
FAILURE sign-encrypt 53

Looks like this is a log output. I'm wondering about the "INV_RECP 10" which
means that the key is not trusted. But I signed and trusted the key (locally),
so it should be trusted.

So, using "Trust Once" it seems the mail is send encrypted. But next time, the
dialog comes back. I haven't seen any option to either "Trust this key" or a
way to tell MM to send emails to untrusted keys as well.

Anything I'm missing?
