Re: MI Tessellation Software

1999-01-02 Thread Gareth Hardman

Jon,

There used to be a cheap MBX that did and was sold by a Jaun Pufleau out of
Mexico - it was a $40 program built for MI4.1 but worked pretty well. The
last email address I had for Jaun was [EMAIL PROTECTED]

No idea whether he is still around!

Re: MI Run Menu Command/icon in a dialog

1999-01-02 Thread bryan_d

Dear Damien,

You need to use the shade command as follows :

Add Map Window FrontWindow() Layer table name
shade Window FrontWindow() 15 with column name values
0 Symbol (34,16711680,9) ,
1 Symbol (34,65280,9) ,
etc to ...
n symbol (34,256,9)

this example works on layer number 15 and uses the "values" keyword, the other
one I use is "ranges" - look at the reference for more info.

...

You have to use the sequence
Run Menu Command 476'to define "shade" parameters
Run Menu Command 477'to set the legend

you can then modify it by
Run Menu Command 466'to "set" the shade
Run Menu Command 477'to set the legend

RE: MI line style editor

1999-01-02 Thread Andrea Perego

Dear Chris and MI Listers:

I think I have the same problem as Joe. When I go to that page (for MIPro)
I get a text-only page. That is, there are no links that allow me to
download anything. I can read that these things (MILISTED for example) are
available, but I can't get at them. The only link I can find on the page
are the menu items at the very top of the page. Any ideas as to how we can
actually get past this and in to the MapInfo Tools? By the way, I have a
MapInfo Passport (actually I have two now...I tried re-registering as a way
to get in but no luck).

I'd love to hear any help you can give.

MI: ObjectGeography(object, OBJ_GEO_CENTROID)

1999-01-02 Thread Lavoie, Claude

MI and MB 5.5 under Win95:

In MapBasic.def the following: Define OBJ_GEO_CENTROID 5

Although not documented under the ObjectGeography() function in MapBasic's
Reference Guide, I infer the statement ObjectGeography(object,
OBJ_GEO_CENTROID) returns a point object. Therefore, I use it on a text
object I want to resize in a MapBasic application, but get the error message
"Could not convert data".

What am I missing?

MI-VM profile

1999-01-02 Thread Map Library

Hi Folks!! I'm just full of questions these days that can't be answered by
manuals. Today's question is about VERTICAL MAPPER's profile function. Can
anyone explain how it defines the horizontal axis? It seems to me that the
values are 'sort of' correct. If I draw a profile that runs say 30
kilometres in the map window, the profile draws a horizontal axis labelled
"Distance (Meters)[e-3]" with a max distance of 0.30 which is correct but
why can't I get it changed to reflect a normal distance (km)? All my map
options are set to kilometres and the defaults are all set to metric
units. The preference options for VM don't seem to offer any help
either. What am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

MI default printer overrides Printer Name in .WOR

1999-01-02 Thread John Chioles

Hello MI Printing Gurus;

In a MI5.5 WOR with multiple layouts the default printer is used vs. the
specified printer in the .WOR. Our temp. answer is to set the default
printer as a plotter (in our case) and restarting MapInfo. No error is
reported from MI when this occurs, MI just sends the print to the (wrong)
default Windows system printer. Nothing else on the print server, etc. has
changed. Has anyone else experienced this? Recommended hack?

TIA

Ladies and Gentlemen

Is there an equivalent to Albers projection in MapInfo?
I have a map of county boundaries of the US in that projection (DXF) that I
can not import.
May be some one can recommend an alternative source of that information.
Only TX LA OK and MS are needed.

Appreciate your advice

Hi Mats

In the UK list price will be £595 and it looks like it will be a winner
for creating polygons and "thinning" unneeded vertices in linear and
polyline objects.

MI RE:MapInfo and SDE

1999-01-02 Thread GroundControl GeoTechnologies Inc.

SMC is a powerful data access and translation tool that
allows for the easy exchange of data between ESRI's Spatial
Database Engine™ (SDE™) and MapInfo Professional. With SMC,
SDE layers can now be accessed from within MapInfo and
MapInfo tables can be "exported" into SDE as layers.

Or you could just use Oracle 8i spatial and avoid the 'ESRI Tax' all
together! I believe that SAFE Software http://www.safe.com also has
included this as an option with their latest relase of the Feature
Manipulation Engine.

MI Announce: Pennsylvania Geospatial Data Clearinghouse

1999-01-02 Thread Bill Thoen

This came across the NSDI-L list and if you are interested in
data for the state of Pennsylvannia, this is a site worth
bookmarking.

Subject: NSDI_L State-wide data availablity
   Date: Thu, 04 Nov 1999 09:07:32 -0500
   From: Chris Pfeiffer [EMAIL PROTECTED]

As one of the services of our clearinghouse, Pennsylvania Spatial
Data
Access (PASDA) has been freely serving out a wide variety of
state-wide
data sets, some created by state agencies, either internally or
by
contract, as well as USGS products like the DEMs, DRGs, and DOQQs
purchased
through the PA Bureau of Topographic and Geologic Survey for the
purpose of
serving the data to the public.

Judging from comments we have received this has been enormously
helpful to
both our users and the USGS. We would like to further assist our
users by
offering direct links to other authorized, on-line sources of
free
statewide data and metadata. This will enable us more
effectively steer
users with requests for out-of-state data to the sources most
immediately
connected with the data stewards or otherwise having indications
of
provenance. We have been and continue to look at the registered
clearinghouse sites but want to be sure to be inclusive. If your
site or
organization freely serves out data and metadata as described
above, please
respond so that we may include it in our links.

Thanks in advance,

Christopher Pfeiffer

Dear Friends,

A little embarrased to ask this...
I don't know about anybody else,
but trying to set zoom display is drviving me nuts!

I've tried so many combinations for the min and max values,
and can't get the darn layer to display or not when desired.

Is there some trick to this?

Thanks for any answers that may come.
