Hi David

There is a great tool that does that automatically on as many files you want (as well
TAB) called "coordination". Look up: www.greatcircle.co.nz.

MI Converting Non-Earth N & E to a proper Projection N & E

2000-09-05 Thread Steve McCrone

Hi

My question was:
>   Hello Mappers:  I have some
vector (say polylines) data that was saved>using:  Non-Earth m,
Bounds -10, -10, 10,>100. This  was
done since the PRJ file did not contain the>appropriate projection
parameters. & N is displayed.  The appropriate RSO>projection
parameters have been added to the PRJ file and  now I wish
to>convert all of the existing data (in Non-Earth) to RSO. & N
from each node>and stores them into an ASCII file. I then import
these  coordinates into>MI and generate lines from the points. I
also could write some  MB code to>create the new tables. Is there a
simpler way of doing this? Perhaps>without getting into MB
programming at all. I am working in MapInfo 5.0>and MapBasic 4.1.2.
Thanks

The solution is:

Save the file out as a MIF, and then edit the MIF
header. Add the correctprojection parameters to the header. Then read the
MIF back into MI.

MI MapX bounds

2000-09-05 Thread MAGS (Mapping Global Solutions)

In MapInfo we can create a map using bounds, so the
precision map is higher.
In MapBasic, we have the statment Set CoordSys
Table x so all drawing tools obtein the same presicion that the
table x has due the bounds..
Is this possible using MapX ?. Is it possible to
create a map using bounds and set the tools precision ?

Thanks in advance.

MI Gridmaker errors

2000-09-05 Thread Macdougall, Evan 1065
Title: MI Gridmaker errors

I am getting some wacky errors when using Gridmaker.  I make a grid that splits the USGS quads into 16ths and choose to make the grid into regions (rather than just a bunch of lines).  Then I combine various areas of the grid so that I have varying sizes of boxes.  The error that I always get is if I have 4 boxes that form a square and I then I combine three of them and leave the other box alone.

example:
C X
C C
("X" = box I leave alone and "C" = boxes I combine)
Now, when I overlay this grid on top of my other layer and try to use boundary select, it always selects the grid layer instead of the layer below it.  Boundary select works fine in all the rest of the regions in my grid except for the areas set up per my example.  I am using MapInfo 4.1.2, so have they made a better gridmaker with 5, 5.5, or 6?  Any fixes?  Any suggestions how I can fix this error?

Is there anybody out there using MapInfo to create contour maps from sets of
points with elevation data attached.

For example: I have taken spot heights using a level, and have created the
grid in MapInfo and added a point feature at each reading and entered the
reduced level. Are there any add on's or MapBasic code out there that will
create a contour map automatically?

RE: MI ESRI Shapefile and MapX Compatibility Question

Dave,

The reason why MapX cannot get the projection is because that
shapefiles do not keep information about projection. Thus there is no way
for MapX to read it.

Dave,

MapX 4.x can read & display native ESRI shape files using the
'Map.Layers.Add LayerInfoObject' method. There is a major drawback
though -
you have to know the projection of the data and specify that in the
'LayerInfoObject' - MapX does not seem to be able to get the
projection from
the shape file itself. MapX also renders the goemetry in the MapX
default
styles.

MI: SUM: How to print the contents of the message window

2000-09-05 Thread Lavoie, Claude

The question:

>One of our MapBasic applications writes different messages to the Message
window. In order to print the contents of the Message window, I tried, to
no avail:
>PrintWin Window 1003
>How can I either print the contents of the Message window to a printer or
to a file? Must be obvious.
>Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the suggestions:

Ahmet Dabanli and Peter Doyle suggested to put the window into a layout and
print; Paul Jones suggested to ouput the messages to a text file via OPEN
FILE, PRINT#, and CLOSE FILE statements. Jacques Paris offered a discussion
of the topic.

I should have mentioned in the original posting that the contents of the
Message window is sometimes a few hundred lines long (cumbersome in a
layout), and that I preferred a fast, non programmatic solution. I will
have to modifiy the code, for it seems to be the only way to get the whole
contents.

Thanks again to all respondents.

  How does MapXtreme work in
relation to displaying data. Does it cache all data from open tables (layers)
in memory and work from this cached data, or does it search through the
datafiles and only load the data required to display the current
  area?
  My main concern will be
speed of display. If we have a very large street level dataset covering the
whole of Australia and display a suburb in Sydney at a scale of about 1:2500,
will it be quick? What hardware specs would I need to get quick displays in
  the mentioned example?
  Thanks!!!  :)

MI Mapbasic - object rotation

2000-09-05 Thread galmala

is there any statement / function to rotate ojects (rectangles created from
Create Rect)???

Thanks in advance,

MI Printing from ProViewer

2000-09-05 Thread MJSully

Hope someone has some ideas.

I need to disable the printing options from MapInfo Pro Viewer
Version 6.

It seems that the toolbars are not customizable.
I have located the .mnu file and all that seems to store
Is a list of the last workspaces or tables that you have opened.
The text the appears on the bottom of the file menu.

I have also looked through a variety of other files. One of which being the .str
File. This is where you can specify what text appears in what menu and what Hover
text appears as you hover over the buttons or menus.

So that is half way, all I need to do is to get rid of the printer button and disable
the
action that it performs.

Any pointers?

TIA

Matt

MI and Visual Basic

2000-09-05 Thread KellyJA

I am writing a Visual Basic application for MapInfo. I am trying to close
any MapInfo tables which have been opened while at the same time keeping my
connection to MapInfo established. I am using the following code

mapinfo.Do "Close All "

All previously open tables are closed but after this I am no longer able to
open any more tables. I have ytried re-establishing a MapInfo connect but
nothing seems to work. Anyone have a suggestion?

Re: MI Creating contour maps

2000-09-05 Thread Roeland van der Spek

Tony,

You can use any of the following products from Mercator Geosystems:

The first is GridContour. This program creates contour lines and contour
polygons from any standard mapinfo grid file (*.mig).

The second is Triangulator. This program accepts any map containing
pointdata and can create:
-Delaunay trinagles
-Voronoy polygons
-Slope and aspect maps
-and Contour maps (both polylines and Polygons)

Free and fully functional evaluation versions of both programs can be
downloade from www.mercatorgeo.nl

Go ahead and give it a try,
Roeland

MI MapXtreme - huge datasets

2000-09-05 Thread Dennis Entriken
Title: MapXtreme - huge datasets

Hi All,

I am using MapXtreme (Java edition) to display some southern Sydney (Australian) street data.

We are hoping to use street data from the whole of Australia in the application, but I have a concern about how MapXtreme will handle it due to the huge amount of data, even though we will only want to load data in small areas.

Does anyone have any experience with using MapXtreme with very large datasets?

How does MapXtreme work in relation to displaying data. Does it cache all data from open tables (layers) in memory and work from this cached data, or does it search through the datafiles and only load the data required to display the current area?

My main concern will be speed of display. If we have a very large street level dataset covering the whole of Australia and display a suburb in Sydney at a scale of about 1:2500, will it be quick? What hardware specs would I need to get quick displays in the mentioned example?

Thanks!!!  :)

2000-09-05 Thread Kjartan Greiff Selnes

greeting members.

I have a problem during querying tables. I get the message "can not open
table". A memory problem i wondered.
Its a table with 250.000 records ( and i have recently done queryies on
tables with a millon records with no problem).
On a query that i know returns few records, lets say about 20.000 it goes
ok, but a query that should return about 200.000 records goes "ad undas".

I've done boot on the hardware and some memoryadjustments, but still the
same problem. (enough space on the disk too.

Im pretty new to MI and are there some things in the sw that i should check
out according to this problem. (What about temporary files or somethiing
like that).

Any hints or tips would be helpful
