Re: [MI-L] Raster transparency converting effectively into PDF
Ben, Here is a screen shot of my setting under options > preferences > Output Settings Then I use a pdf print driver. PDF995 is the one I use. I would think you would be able to use the Acrobat Distiller. Hope this helps, let me know. Leith C. I think the "Save Window As" solution works but is uglier the closer you zoom. I use the WIN2TAB utility to make a raster layer out of the region and water layers. I load this beneath the text, symbol and line layers. This gives you much smaller file sizes. Others can edit them in Adobe Illustrator etc. But you retain the crisp text and lines at any scale that make the Adobe format desirable. You can look at a sample on my web site: http://mapmet.com/MapBooks/Boundary/Page_14.pdf Adobe has purchased Flash Paper from Macromedia. It has some advantages in size and speed for display on the Internet, though I think .pdf is still superior for printing. It is a free trial download from Adobe.com. RE: [MI-L] Raster transparency converting effectively into PDF
We also have this transparency problem. We also have a problem with shaded regions; PDF turns the small dots into larger squares. What we do is, SAVE WINDOW AS to a jpeg of at least 300 dpi. Then, we open the jpeg in Adobe Acrobat, save as a pdf file, and use the REDUCE FILE SIZE command in Acrobat. There is a very minor degradation of the image, usually noticeable around the adges of black text with a white halo, but definitely acceptable, and not usually noticable to our clients. -Tony -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Ben Crane Sent: Tuesday, October 24, 2006 1:11 AM To: mapinfo-l@lists.directionsmag.com Subject: [MI-L] Raster transparency converting effectively into PDF Hi all, Has anyone used raster transparency in MI and successfully printed this transparency to PDF (I'm using Adobe Acrobat (full version))? RE: [MI-L] Raster transparency converting effectively into PDF
I have not had any success printing transparency to PDF. I work around it by saving window as JPG and then converting the JPG to PDF if needed. It's not elegant, but it retains the transparency. -Original Message- Message: 4 Date: Tue, 24 Oct 2006 01:11:16 -0700 (PDT) From: Ben Crane <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subject: [MI-L] Raster transparency converting effectively into PDF To: mapinfo-l@lists.directionsmag.com Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=iso-8859-1 Hi all, Has anyone used raster transparency in MI and successfully printed this transparency to PDF (I'm using Adobe Acrobat (full version))? Good luck with that. You best best really is to export a tab or mid/mif and then import those files to Illustrator using MAPublisher and then finishing the map and save a pdf right out of Illustrator.
