Hi :)
Yes, i think the idea is to test the site's uploading process to see if it's
reasonably easy for people to use.

If your templates and Extensions have not been through beta-testing yet then it
might be good to write that in the description or as a comment or something so
that when people download it they know it's a beta-testing version.

Tom, who gets to upload all the 180+ dictionaries that are out there
[and on the LibreOffice-NA.US online version of its DVDs]? I see that
there are the 4 French, an Italian, a Russian, plus maybe a few more
when you look at all of the extensions online the list. You get only
the French ones if you search for language aids/tools.

I really think these dictionaries should be listed there tagged as
language aids or tools. There are over 20 localized Spanish
dictionaries to choose from. OOo has their dictionary list, where most
of my list came from, so we should have our own list as well.

Hi :)
Hopefully someone might find a way of doing that from 1 server (OOo's?) to
another (LO's) rather than having to download to a desktop machine and then
re-upload.  Apparently right now there is no good way of doing bulk
uploads/transfers but maybe after the site has been beta-tested?

I don't have a clue.  It's not my project and i wasn't involved at all.
Something i wanted and made a fuss about a few months ago but never got
involved with the work.  I thought the idea had been killed off tbh until
suddenly the announcement was being drawn-up.  The project seems well planned
and well implemented imo.

Re: [libreoffice-marketing] Extension website - broader publicity wanted

2011-09-15 Thread webmaster for Kracked Press Productions

Well since OOo's Extension site is offline, last time I checked, someone
could take them from the LibreOffice-NA.US domain and upload them to
LO's Extension site.

Still, there should be a category called Dictionaries. That would make
it easier for people to find them. Language Tools or Aids type of
category might not work for some, plus not all of the currently uploaded
dictionaries are found with that category.

The Here are the Dictionaries type of category, like OOo has in their
opening extension page, would make it much easier for people to find
them. There are over 180 of them, so they should have their own
category. Language Tool, Writer's Tools Writer Extras, Linguist,
Pagination, and the other non-dictionary tools for helping you with
writing your documents should be in a category apart from
dictionaries, since there are so many dictionaries and so few of the
writing aids that are not dictionaries. There may be 10 or a few more
of these writing tools vs 180+ dictionaries. The 10 would get lost
withing the 180.

Hi,

I can provide Hungarian translation, as I did for OOo Extension site.

Any other thing that I can do for the Extension and templates site?

Is it possible to mass upload templates/extensions?

I was going to ask about Chinese spell checkers, but realized that
glyph-based words/languages may not be suitable for spell checkers.
Grammar and word use systems may be the only one for a computer-based
document.

I am glad I do not have to deal with a glyph-based language like Chinese
or Japanese. The only good thing about single glyph based
words/languages on a computer system is that you do not have the
spelling issues that multi-character based words/language have. You
have only the glyphs that are in you language font to deal with. Of
course, you could use the wrong glyph thinking that is was the correct
one for the word you wanted. I would be hard pressed to learn a
glyph-based language. With my memory issues, I would never be able to
remember which glyph was which.

Developers invited to contribute their add-ons
Community-based review process ensures quality and reliability

LibreOffice, the free office productivity suite, can be enhanced with
hundreds of extensions and templates. Users can download these smart
extras to improve the suite's functionality to fit their job or hobby,
and developers can easily write their own add-ons and share it with
millions of users worldwide.

Since, at the moment, there is no reliable and stable source for

efforts into launching a public repository. It does not only provide
extensions and templates for LibreOffice, but also for OpenOffice.org
and other compatible office suites. Users of these can benefit from the
work and the commitment of our community, and are invited to have a look
at recent versions of our product, which already has included has the
most popular extensions, and comes with many new features.

The new site is now in public beta testing at
http://extensions-test.libreoffice.org and has been created in
cooperation with the Plone community, on whose technology it is based.
To ensure the quality and reliability of the offered extensions, a
community-based review process is currently set in place: Community
volunteers test and review available extensions, and those meeting
criteria of quality will be tagged accordingly.

We warmly invite all developers to submit their extensions and fill the
repository, where millions of users worldwide will be able to download
and benefit from their work. All extensions submitted during the public
beta test will remain in the repository after the beta test, so this is
your chance to join the efforts right from the beginning!

LibreOffice remains committed to providing users with quality software
authored under free software licenses, and, as such, our catalogue of
extensions and templates are published under free software licenses.

I have a little doubt... The new repository is only for extensions with

If yes, may be useful (or important) include this information for

We warmly invite all developers to submit their free licenced
extensions...

Best regards,

 libreoffice.org http://extensions-test.libreoffice.org and has been
created in cooperation with the Plone community, on whose technology it is

Hi!

Answering myself... from the Extensions main page:

LibreOffice remains committed to providing users with quality software
authored under free software licenses, and, as such, our catalogue of
extensions and templates are published under free software licenses.

Then, I think it's important in the post.

Best regards,

 Hi Florian!

  It's very good!

I have a little doubt... The new repository is only for extensions with
 free licenses, ok?
If yes, may be useful (or important) include this information for
developers in the last paragraph. I suggest something like:

We warmly invite all developers to submit their free licenced
 extensions...

 Best regards,

 Gustavo Pacheco.

LibreOffice launches extension and templates repository for public beta
 test

Developers invited to contribute their addons
Community-based review process ensures quality and reliability

LibreOffice, the free office productivity suite, can be enhanced with
hundreds of extensions and templates. Users can download these smart extras
to improve the suite's functionality to fit their job or hobby, and
developers can easily write their own add-ons and share it with millions of
 users worldwide.

Since at the moment there is no reliable and stable source for downloading
these handy add-ons, the LibreOffice community has put great efforts into
launching a public repository. It does not only provide extensions and
templates for LibreOffice, but also for OpenOffice.org and other compatible
office suites. Users of these can benefit from the work and the commitment
of our community, and are invited to have a look at recent versions of our
product, which already has included has the most popular extensions, and
 comes with many new features.

The new site is now in public beta testing at http://extensions-test.**

Thanks for your remarks. I think those are fine, except that the
intention of my first sentence is different. But I do have to improve it:

Now waiting for the route: announcement / || blog.

Hi :)
One problem with changes are that it might lose the energy of the original. I
liked the original. It's always easier to criticise than to create so i have
been able to try some potential changes directly into Cor's idea without
changing the idea (hopefully).

Hi :)
I don't know why that 1st line feels awkward and i can't see a way to make it
flow better. What it does say is right. Perhaps write it the other way
around? Something like

The ability to add and even create extensions is one of the most appreciated
functions that LibreOffice offers.
Hmm, my example is not better but it might help you get there.

So, Florian is making a Press Release and Cor is doing a blog announcement to
go
out at the same time? Is someone doing a twitter feed (or whatever you call
them) or are they easier or more individualistic or something?
Regards from
Tom :)

2011-08-25 Thread Andreas Mantke
Hi,

the repo-website is from my site in good shape for a start now. The content,
which
will be created on the site, will stand for the future (when I do some minor
changes
to the site). E.g. I solved an issue with the display of different licenses in
the
project overview site (will be online this week).

We have currently fourteen projects with fifteen releases online, but we need
to
encourage more people to bring their extension to a wider public.

New LibreOffice extensions site - feedback appreciated!\

Some of the best features of LibreOffice are the extensions.
Download these smart extras to aid your job or hobby, or even create your
 own extension.
Recently there has been some great work done by TDF member, Andreas Mantke,
and his team to create a LibreOffice extensions website.
Apart from the advantage of having our own repository, full of free
extensions, it also helps users that want to download extensions from the
older OpenOffice.org extension site. Those that have tried that recently,
will have noticed that the service is not reliable at the moment. And it
is unclear how soon the migration to the Apache OpenOffice project will be
 in place.

So... go and see here: http://extensions-test.libreoffice.org/ ... But
wait: it's not yet finished! Nevertheless you are warmly invited to have a
look, play with it, add some extensions if you have those and give
feed-back. Your submitted extensions will be kept when the final
 site goes live!
If you have something to share, please do so via mail to
 ???
or have a look at the pointers on the wiki:
 http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Extensions_Repository

-

Are there more changes or should the above text go online?

We need something similar for the new template repository (maybe with a
distance of
some days) . There is currently no stuff in the repo available ;-(

Regards,
Andreas
