Hi folks,

After a couple of days, I finally have a number ;-)

Pt-br installation folder needs about 210 MB of space in the media. That
does not include installation packages that are common for all languages.
That does include help and language packages for all platforms, some "must
have" extensions and templates, pt-br translated copies of licences and arts
for media labels in pt-br. If we could include a folder with all BrOffice
Magazine issues (in PDF format), the amount of space would increase to 325
MB.

Just for curiosity: Including instalation packages for all platforms and
magazines, the space needed would be 1,5 GB. And including the source code
(just a gift for developers), it would be 1,7 GB.

Rgds.

Ah - generally speaking then, well isn't it already the case that the
LibreOfficeBox image is available as hosted download, bitTorrent and I
believe now you can use the Box website as a DEB repository, least I
think that is available now.

IMO the overall project would be remiss not to use the strong work in
the current LibreOfficeBox image as the basis for a going forward
official image, in many languages, at this point - it is out there as
the official release now if nothing else.

The LibreOffieBox team is or has setup the SilverStripe instance
utilized to develop the current German language image in such a way to
work on the additional languages. I would assume then that when those
translations (enhancements) do happen, I'm sure it will be sooner rather
then later, that all the same delivery routes currently employed will be
use for these new formal releases.

Having instructions, which I think is rally all you need as a minimum,
or some additional auto run support for a USB image makes great sense,
for TDF official images and others.

Best wishes,

Drew

I think we could be looking at it in a broader sense. It's not TDF vs
community; it's just that we could be thinking of having several types
of DVD contents for various "markets" or use. Same for USB and torrent
files.

There already is LibreOffieBox - I don't think anything in this thread
or the idea of community efforts (not TDF) in general is geared towards
pulling the plug on that longstanding effort by the German Club or
accepting that this is THE official release.

The discussion is about ancillary projects?

I just want to say that the contents for pt-br are a little different,
because we have some extensions and templates to be included, like CoGroo

users.

So, I am making a little research to know what amount of space pt-br needs

Those "mandatory" extensions are what I would love to find for French
and Spanish. I know what I want and need for my needs in English, but I
do not know what other languages need support in for extensions, other
than dictionary styled ones.

Which type of USB stick version?
Software on the USB thumb-drive for installing on the platform, or a
Portable version to be run off the USB thumb-drive? That is my question.

If it is to be installed from the USB "stick", that is easy but 4GB
sticks are a about $7.00 USD [plus shipping] or more depending on where
you get them. Locally [not online] stores run about $15 USD.

Right now with all the extras and such, my DVD project fills the DVD
with about 300 MB to spare, so it would need to have some of its content
removed to fit on a 4 GB stick. 8GB sticks cost $13 USD or more each,
so the costs are even higher.

DVD media [$8 for 50] and the 5.25" by 7.5" DVD cases cost $10 for 25
and $18 for 100 on Tigerdirect.com. So that is the way I am going for
distribution of LibreOffice.

We were really thinking more of on a regional basis. From what I can
see, in North America, there would be enough LibreOffice members
interested in keeping up a North American version of a North American
LibreOffice DVD. This DVD would have files specific to the North
American market and have EN; ES, FR-Canada specific language support
(HTML pages translated into these languages).

For Central and South American, at this point, there does not seem to
be enough members to keep up a South American DVD version in Spanish.
As the North American version will support ES for native Hispanic
Americans (many from Central and South America decent) and Mexico, it
would make sense for the North American DVD help out with supporting
South American Spanish DVD. This is the reason why it was proposed the
project name change to the Americas DVD project. Helping out the
South/Central American Spanish would cause very little additional work.

It now seems that the BrOffice members are discussing this as well and
that we may be able to pool our resources and create an all-inclusive
Americas DVD with EN; ES, BR-PT and FR-Canadian support.

IMO, if, eventually, there are enough interested LibreOffice members
who could could support a South American DVD in ES and BR-PT, they
could separate and have their own regional South American DVD or/and
Central American DVD projects.

Having regional versions would allow us to add more region-specific
materials on the disc.

If we were to produce one official disk, it would be harder to target
specific materials to specific regional-language groups. I don't
believe that the DVD space would allow this. As it stands now, the
Americas DVD is already getting pretty full and Tim (the main
contributor) is already warning us that the disk space if of concern.

Yes I am working my "fingers" off to find the best content for our North
America, Americas, etc., English language DVD in English, French, and
Spanish. Thankfully there are some nice people who are going to take my
work and make the French and Spanish language versions for me [who
cannot speak any other language]. Right now I am working on finding all
those pesky typos and grammar errors. But I am almost done [hope, hope,
hope].

So, IMO, regional DVD/USB sticks for the LibreOffice project would be
more practical for the North/Central/South American regions.

And yes, any help with the DVD/USB projects would be most welcome.

Cheers

Marc

I installed the Windows version [all languages] to my Vista Laptop to

just wanting English [default] and French. I did have to go an do the
"custom install" to pick my languages that I wanted to add, other than
the default English install. I wanted to try 5 or more languages to see
how that works.

Under "Tools/Language" option you can set the language of your text.
What you do to change the language of the menus is something I have not
tried, since I speak English and not any other language.

The only issue I had was the fact that you needed to know that for
multiple languages [for at lease the all language version] in your
initial install, you have to use the "custom" install option[s]. Other
than that, it worked great. I wish MSO was as easy, from what it was
like for MSO 2003 pro version. The ease of install and setup is one of
my things I tell people about. It is much easier to install than . . . . .

we saw US Community DVD, and we wanted to do something like that. So, we are
interested to participate in this initiative you're telling us. What do we
need to do?

I would love some input, comments, suggestions, etc., from people north
and south of the USA. I speak only English [and computerese] so I am
relying on the kind help of those who speak other languages, like Marc
and Sophie, plus all the others who want to help.

This project "Exploded" from an simple English only idea, to something
that would benefit many different communities. Without those diverse
communities supporting us, this DVD cannot be done.

I have checked out BrOffice's web site [viewed through Google
translation] and I like what you are doing. The even have a great
looking e-zine, that was sent to one of the lists a few months ago. Good
job to them and keep going and thanks for the support for the
LibreOffice project[s].

Cheers

Marc

I tried to include a PT-BR help Main-page, but I noticed, it's a different
domain (libreoffice.org) and We have no access to edit it. Is there
something we can do about that?

We had a little discussion at Brazilian Community and decisded that me and
Clóvis will take care on this matter. We're gonna provide any resources
needed for a Brazilian section in this DVD. We also have some packages
developed by (and for) Brazilian users, wue want be part of our
"distribution". Just let us know what you need.

A big welcome to all of you.

One question that has come up on one of my off-list email, is there a
BR-PT help file for v.3.3.1?

The DVD includes a Windows for Brazil-PT help file, but it is the
European Portuguese, till we find out what happened to the BR-PT one.
The other platforms have it, but it was not on the list from the
LibreOffice download site.

I also wanted to alert you to the Americas DVD project being discussed
on the US Marketing list.

Does BrOffice offer a BR-PT DVD? If so, is it specifically made for
the Brazilian market?

Cheers

Marc

Thank you very much. We are happy to be here.

There's no pt-BR online Help in http://help.libreoffice.org/Main_Page (clicking
in PT-BR link on top language menu). But there are help pages for each
application, for example,
http://help.libreoffice.org/Writer/Welcome_to_the_Writer_Help/pt-BR.
Translating the main page to pt-BR is quite fast. In addition, there's a
help pack at
http://download.documentfoundation.org/libreoffice/stable/3.3.1/deb/x86/LibO_3.3.1_Linux_x86_helppack-deb_pt-BR.tar.gz
.
