Re: [MBZ] Oil Filter Cannister
Stuart, I think I have an oil filter canister with a drain plug in the bottom to drain the oil prior to loosing the canister. I drilled a hole and brazed a nut on the bottom of the canister. Tapped the nut to take a drain plug. Works great. Let me know if you are interested. Darrell W. They're not obviously on the website, but I know that means little. Or will it be time to call a recycler? If so, got any suggestions? How much is one likely to cost? Thanks as always, guys. Re: [MBZ] overheating SDL
Yeah, gritty crud is the wood fiber type leak "fixer". Usually fixes the engine, too by clogging. Flush out what you can, and run water backwards through the heater core and rad. The worst part of this is that the grit is coated with (or consists of) low MP plastic, the theory being that it will melt at the leak and plug it. Usually melts as the heat goes up and coats everything. After you flush, try both a citric acid flush and a sodium carbonate flush (plain washing soda, a cup or two in two gallons of warm water, stir to dissolve). Hopefully this will get the slops out. Expect to replace the rad or heater core, whichever is leaking. How did you modify the thermostat? Bypass closure is required to prevent overheating on those engines, if the back flap isn't there, the coolant won't go through the rad. Peter

It's possible, though there's not much to go wrong with a water pump. You'll have to pull the pump to inspect the impeller. Given red, gritty gunk, I'd be much more inclined to think the radiator is plugged. If you have another (maybe even different type) radiator, clean out the system and kludge the second radiator in. Observe indications of flow through the (open) fill spout. Or, take the existing radiator to a radiator shop to have it cleaned out and flow checked. Craig
Re: [MBZ] overheating SDL
the radiator isn't hot enough to cause the clutch to engage. Lower hose is cool to the touch, top is HOT. I am also not getting very much heat in the Your radiator is clogged, perhaps also the heater core. First step would be to flush the system, then try an acid flush. But be prepared to have to replace things like heater core, radiator, and monovalve insert if they indeed did use clog-o-matic on it. So sorry for you. [MBZ] overheating SDL
Yesterday and today I've worked on the SDL trying to figure out why it is overheating. Yesterday, I first checked to see if the fan clutch was engaging, it's not.well, the radiator isn't hot enough to cause the clutch to engage. Lower hose is cool to the touch, top is HOT. I am also not getting very much heat in the cab when I select defrost and MAX temp. Hrm, so I drained all of the coolant and started pulling some of the system apart and noticed this red, gritty grime coating the inside of EVERYTHING. Hrm, wonder if the PPO (previous-previous owner before Kaleb) tried some of that block/head/radiator sealer? I have modified the old thermostat to be mostly open all the time. I have readjusted the air flow potentiometer to the manual recommended 0.7V . Previously it was hovering close to .9V and there is a marked difference in the acceleration from standstill. seemed like it was getting chocked due to overfueling at lower RPM's and .ok at the higher end. Thanks for the link. should have one running soon. regards mak - Original Message - From: "Hendrik Riessen" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> http://makeashorterlink.com/?R1F321F0E Might help if I put in a link so you can see what I am talking about. > This is like the unit I made, except mine only has three LEDs. Easy to make if you know a little bit about electronics. Once constructed just hook it up to battery and the O2 sensor then go for a drive and watch the light show. Hendrik Interesting to know about the O2 tester.details? with 130K kilometres the engine is very sound. Seems to be a fuelling problem as at part warm-up the engine is responsive right across. mak ___ http://www.okiebenz.com For new parts see official list sponsor: http://www.buymbparts.com/ For used parts email [EMAIL PROTECTED] To Unsubscribe or change delivery options go to: http://okiebenz.com/mailman/listinfo/mercedes_okiebenz.com -- No virus found in this incoming message.
